      • Association of Viral Infections with Risk of Human Lymphomas, Egypt

Kadry, Dalia Y,Khorshed, Amira M,Rashed, Reham A,Mokhtar, Nadia M Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.4

Background: The aim of this study was to determine and evaluate the association of different viral infections, with hepatitis B and C viruses, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus and human herpes virus-8 (HBV, HCV, EBV, CMV, HHV-8) with the risk of lymphomas (Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin) among Egyptian patients, and correlate with the histopathological staging and typing as well as the prevalence of combined infections. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 newly diagnosed lymphoma patients with 100 healthy age and sex matched normal controls were assayed for viral infection using enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) followed by real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: Our results showed a high statistical significant difference between cases and controls as regards clinical and laboratory findings (P<0.001 and=0.003). A high statistical difference was seen for the association of most viruses and lymphoma cases (p<0.001) except for positive HBs Ag, positive CMV IgG and HHV-8 (p=0.37, 0.70 and 1.0 respectively). No statistical significant difference was found between Hodgkin (HL) and non-Hodgkin (NHL) as regards viral prevalence except HCV antigen, 57.1% for HL and 26.5% for NHL (p = 0.03). Only, HBV DNA showed a high significant value among infiltrated bone marrow cases (p=0.003) and finally, a high significant association of 2 combined viral infections with infiltrated bone marrow lymphoma cases (p=0.04). Conclusions: Our results showed that infection with HBV, HCV, CMV and EBV were associated with increased risk of lymphoma among the Egyptian population. Detection of new associations between infectious agents and risk of cancer development will facilitate progress in elaboration of prophylactic measures, early diagnostic methods and, hopefully, novel therapy of malignant tumours.

In addition, 3-(4-substituted piperazin-l-ylcarbonyl methyl thio)-6-(thien-2-yl) pyridazines (6a-c) and 3-[2-(4-substitutedpip-erazin-l-ylcarbonyl ethylthio]-6-(thien-2-yl) pyridazines (7a,b) were synthesized. Furthermore, 5-(4-substituted piperazin-l-ylmethyl)-6-(thien-2-yl)-2H-pyridazin-3-ones (12a,b) were prepared. The structures of the new compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis as well as by $^{1}H-NMR$, IR and MS data. Some of the newly prepared compounds were subjected to evaluation for their anti-inflammatory activity against carrageenan-induced paw edema at a dose of 10 mg/kg using indomethacin as the reference standard.

Magnetized Darcy-Forchheimer Stagnation Point Flow of Micropolar Ferrosoferric Oxide Fluid with Velocity Slip and Convective Boundary Condition

        M. Ijaz Khan,Seifedine Kadry,Yu-Ming Chu,El Mostafa Kalmoun,Zulfiqar Ali 한국자기학회 2020 Journal of Magnetics Vol.25 No.2

The present communication develops the governing expressions that describe a steady incompressible two-dimensional flow of micropolar Ferrosoferric Oxide fluid towards a stretched surface under the impact of Lorentz force (magnetic field). Ferrofluids are made out of nanoscale ferromagnetic materials suspended in a base fluid (oil, kerosene, water). The distinction between the magnetorheological fluids (MRF) and ferrofluids (FF) is the size of the materials. The materials in a ferrofluid fundamentally comprise of nanomaterials, which are suspended by Brownian diffusion and generally under normal conditions will not settle. Here, Ferrosoferric Oxide (Fe₃O₄) is considered as nanoparticle and water as a base fluid. The governing equations are modeled by using Tiwari-Das nanofluid model with the help of appropriate similarity transformations. Furthermore, radiative heat flux and convective boundary condition is accounted. The numerical results of the governing equations are obtained through implementation of Built-in-Shooting technique. The impact of radiation parameter, stretching ratio parameter, magnetic parameter, thermal Biot number, micro-rotation parameter, velocity slip parameter and Darcy-Forchheimer number on the flow velocity and temperature are revealed graphically and discussed. The engineering curiosity like skin friction and Nusselt number are computationally computed and tabulated.

Statistical Profiles of Users’ Interactions with Videos in Large Repositories: Mining of Khan Academy Repository

( Sahar Yassine ),( Seifedine Kadry ),( Miguel Angel Sicilia ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.5

The rapid growth of instructional videos repositories and their widespread use as a tool to support education have raised the need of studies to assess the quality of those educational resources and their impact on the quality of learning process that depends on them. Khan Academy (KA) repository is one of the prominent educational videos’ repositories. It is famous and widely used by different types of learners, students and teachers. To better understand its characteristics and the impact of such repositories on education, we gathered a huge amount of KA data using its API and different web scraping techniques, then we analyzed them. This paper reports the first quantitative and descriptive analysis of Khan Academy repository (KA repository) of open video lessons. First, we described the structure of repository. Then, we demonstrated some analyses highlighting content-based growth and evolution. Those descriptive analyses spotted the main important findings in KA repository. Finally, we focused on users’ interactions with video lessons. Those interactions consisted of questions and answers posted on videos. We developed interaction profiles for those videos based on the number of users’ interactions. We conducted regression analysis and statistical tests to mine the relation between those profiles and some quality related proposed metrics. The results of analysis showed that all interaction profiles are highly affected by video length and reuse rate in different subjects. We believe that our study demonstrated in this paper provides valuable information in understanding the logic and the learning mechanism inside learning repositories, which can have major impacts on the education field in general, and particularly on the informal learning process and the instructional design process. This study can be considered as one of the first quantitative studies to shed the light on Khan Academy as an open educational resources (OER) repository. The results presented in this paper are crucial in understanding KA videos repository, its characteristics and its impact on education.

      • Relation of BAALC and ERG Gene Expression with Overall Survival in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Cases

Rashed, Reham A,Kadry, Dalia Y,Taweel, Maha EL,Abd El Wahab, Nahed,Abd El Hameed, Thoreya Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.17

Background: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the expression of brain and acute leukemia, cytoplasmic (BAALC) gene and erythroblast transformation-specific related gene (ERG) in de novo cases of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and identify roles in disease progression and outcome. Materials and Methods: This study included 50 newly diagnosed AML patients, along with 10 apparently healthy normal controls. BAALC and ERG expression was detected in the bone marrow of both patients and controls using real-time RT-PCR. Results: BAALC and ERG expression was detected in 52% of cases but not in any controls. There was a statistically significant correlation between BAALC and ERG gene expression and age (p-value=0.004 and 0.019, respectively). No statistical significance was noted for sex, lymphadenopathy, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, other hematological findings, immunophenotyping and FAB sub-classification except for ERG gene and FAB (p-value=0.058). A statistical significant correlation was found between response to treatment with ERG expression (p-value=0.028) and age (p-value=0.014). A statistically significant variation in overall survival was evident with patient age, BM blast cells, FAB subgroups, BAALC and ERG expression (p-value=<0.001, 0.045, 0.041, <0.008 and 0.025 respectively). Conclusions: Our results suggest that BAALC and ERG genes are specific significant molecular markers in AML disease progression, response to treatment and survival.

Theoretical Investigations of Entropy Optimization in Electro-Magneto Nonlinear Mixed Convective Second Order Slip Flow

        M. Ijaz Khan,Sumaira Qayyum,S. Kadry,W. A. Khan,S. Z. Abbas 한국자기학회 2020 Journal of Magnetics Vol.25 No.1

Here nonlinear mixed convective entropy based nanofluid second order slip flow of magnetic and electric field is addressed. Both electric and magnetic field is considered for the problem formulation and the flow is generated by a stretched surface. Important slip factors, i.e., Brownian and thermophoresis diffusions are accounted. Total entropy rate subject to four types of irreversibilities (i) heat transfer (ii) chemical reaction (iii) fluid friction (iv) Joule or Ohmic heating is obtained through second law of thermodynamics. Thermal radiation, heat generation/absorption, dissipation, Brownian motion, Joule or Ohmic heating and thermophoresis effects are considered in the development of the energy equation. Activation energy to undergo the physical transportation or chemical transformation of atoms or molecules is further considered in the analysis of concentration. Firstly ordinary differential system is found, then numerically solved for flow field, entropy generation, concentration, temperature, skin friction, Nusselt number, Bejan number and Sherwood number through built-in- Shooting method.
