EXACTNESS OF COCHAIN COMPLEXES VIA ADDITIVE FUNCTORS
Campanini, Federico,Facchini, Alberto Korean Mathematical Society 2020 대한수학회논문집 Vol.35 No.4
We investigate the relation between the notion of e-exactness, recently introduced by Akray and Zebary, and some functors naturally related to it, such as the functor P : Mod-R → Spec(Mod-R), where Spec(Mod-R) denotes the spectral category of Mod-R, and the localization functor with respect to the singular torsion theory.
SOME REMARKS ON CATEGORIES OF MODULES MODULO MORPHISMS WITH ESSENTIAL KERNEL OR SUPERFLUOUS IMAGE
Alahmadi, Adel,Facchini, Alberto Korean Mathematical Society 2013 대한수학회지 Vol.50 No.3
For an ideal $\mathcal{I}$ of a preadditive category $\mathcal{A}$, we study when the canonical functor $\mathcal{C}:\mathcal{A}{\rightarrow}\mathcal{A}/\mathcal{I}$ is local. We prove that there exists a largest full subcategory $\mathcal{C}$ of $\mathcal{A}$, for which the canonical functor $\mathcal{C}:\mathcal{C}{\rightarrow}\mathcal{C}/\mathcal{I}$ is local. Under this condition, the functor $\mathcal{C}$, turns out to be a weak equivalence between $\mathcal{C}$, and $\mathcal{C}/\mathcal{I}$. If $\mathcal{A}$ is additive (with splitting idempotents), then $\mathcal{C}$ is additive (with splitting idempotents). The category $\mathcal{C}$ is ample in several cases, such as the case when $\mathcal{A}$=Mod-R and $\mathcal{I}$ is the ideal ${\Delta}$ of all morphisms with essential kernel. In this case, the category $\mathcal{C}$ contains, for instance, the full subcategory $\mathcal{F}$ of Mod-R whose objects are all the continuous modules. The advantage in passing from the category $\mathcal{F}$ to the category $\mathcal{F}/\mathcal{I}$ lies in the fact that, although the two categories $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{F}/\mathcal{I}$ are weakly equivalent, every endomorphism has a kernel and a cokernel in $\mathcal{F}/{\Delta}$, which is not true in $\mathcal{F}$. In the final section, we extend our theory from the case of one ideal$\mathcal{I}$ to the case of $n$ ideals $\mathcal{I}_$, ${\ldots}$, $\mathca{l}_n$.
Some remarks on categories of modules modulo morphisms with essential kernel or superfluous image

For an ideal L of a preadditive category A, we study whenthe canonical functor C: A → A/L is local. We prove that there existsa largest full subcategory C of A for which the canonical functor C : C → C/L is local. Under this condition, the functor C turns out to bea weak equivalence between C and C/L. If A is additive (with splittingidempotents), then C is additive (with splitting idempotents). The category C is ample in several cases, such as the case when A = Mod-R andI is the ideal Δ of all morphisms with essential kernel. In this case, thecategory C contains, for instance, the full subcategory F of Mod-R whoseobjects are all the continuous modules. The advantage in passing fromthe category F to the category F/L lies in the fact that, although thetwo categories F and F/L are weakly equivalent, every endomorphismhas a kernel and a cokernel in F/Δ, which is not true in F. In the finalsection, we extend our theory from the case of one ideal I to the case ofn ideals L1, . . . , Ln.

General Purpose Graphic Processing Unit (GPGPU) computing is a technique that utilizes the highperformance many-core processors of high-end graphic cards for general-purpose computations such as 3D graphics, video/image processing, computer vision, scientific computing, HPC and many more. GPGPUs offer a vast amount of raw computing power, but programming is extremely challenging because of hardware idiosyncrasies. The open computing language (OpenCL) has been proposed as a vendor-independent GPGPU programming interface. OpenCL is very close to the hardware and thus does little to increase GPGPU programmability. In this paper we present how a set of digital camera image signal processing (ISP) filters can be realized efficiently on GPGPUs using OpenCL. Although we found ISP filters to be memory-bound computations, our GPGPU implementations achieve speedups of up to a factor of 64.8 over their sequential counterparts. On GPGPUs, our proposed optimizations achieved speedups between 145% and 275% over their baseline GPGPU implementations. Our experiments have been conducted on a Geforce GTX 275; because of OpenCL we expect our optimizations to be applicable to other architectures as well.

Pectus Arcuatum, a rare congenital chest wall deformity, is characterized by the protrusion and early ossification of sternal angle thus configuring as a mixed form of excavatum and carinatum features. Surgical correction of pectus arcuatum always includes one or more horizontal sternal osteotomies, consisting in performing a V-shaped horizontal cutting of the sternum (resection prism) by means of an oscillating power saw. The angle between the saw and the sternal body in the V-shaped cut is deter-mined according to the peculiarity of the specific sternal arch. The choice of the right angle, decided by the surgeon on the basis of her/his experience, is crucial for a successful intervention. The availability of a patient-specific surgical guide conveying the correct cutting angles can considerably improve the chances of success and, at the same time, reduce the intervention time. The present paper aims to propose a new CAD-based approach to design and produce custom-made surgical guides, manufactured by using addi-tive manufacturing techniques, to assist the sternal osteotomy. Starting from CT images, the procedure allows to determine correct resection prism and to shape the surgical guide accordingly taking into account additive manufacturing capabilities. Virtually tested against three case studies the procedure demonstrated its effectiveness.

Thermophilic fungi produce thermostable enzymes which have a number of applications, mainly in biotechnological processes. In this work, we describe the characterization of a protease produced in solidstate (SSF) and submerged (SmF) fermentations by a newly isolated thermophilic fungus identified as a putative new species in the genus Myceliophthora. Enzyme-production rate was evaluated for both fermentation processes, and in SSF, using a medium composed of a mixture of wheat bran and casein, the proteolytic output was 4.5-fold larger than that obtained in SmF. Additionally, the peak of proteolytic activity was obtained after 3 days for SSF whereas for SmF it was after 4 days. The crude enzyme obtained by both SSF and SmF displayed similar optimum temperature at 50°C, but the optimum pH shifted from 7 (SmF) to 9 (SSF). The alkaline protease produced through solid-state fermentation (SSF), was immobilized on beads of calcium alginate, allowing comparative analyses of free and immobilized proteases to be carried out. It was observed that both optimum temperature and thermal stability of the immobilized enzyme were higher than for the free enzyme. Moreover, the immobilized enzyme showed considerable stability for up to 7 reuses.
