Objective:The purpose of this study is to determine whether glue-sniffing patients do have characteristics and brain dysfunction by event related potential P300. Methods:Subjects were composed of patients with substance abuse (glue-sniffing) (N=30) and normal controls (N=30). P300 was determined by standard methods, “oddball paradigm”. Results:In normal controls, P300 latency was from 264 msec to 384 msec (mean =306.00±28.71 msec). In patients with glue-sniffing, P300 latency was from 308 msec to 368 msec (mean=337.87± 15.38 msec). In patients with glue-sniffing P300 latency were more prolonged (p<0.001). In normal controls, P300 amplitude was from 1.56 uV to 13.54 uV (mean=5.82±3.12 uV). In patients with glue-sniffing, P300 amplitude was from 2.00 uV to 12.27 uV (mean=6.71±3.04 uV). There were no significant differences between the two groups. Conclusion:It is suggested that patients with glue-sniffing have different characteristics of P300 latency and brain dysfunction in some neurophysiological aspects.
