This article is a hermeneutical evaluation of the life, the ministry and the theology of Rev. Sang-Bok Kim, for the purpose of inspiring and teaching the next generation. First and foremost, prior to evaluating his ministry and his theology one must first observe his life to understand the depth of his spirituality and the formation of his values and beliefs. We will look at his life through three different stages. First, his life in Korea (1939.1.11∼1965.8): north (Pyongyang) and south (Pusan and Seoul); second, his life in America (1965.8∼1990.5): studying abroad, teaching and ministry; and lastly, his life again in Korea (1990.6∼2011.1): his life based on his ministry at Hallelujah Church. Understanding his life through these three different stages will provide us insight with regard to the direction of his ministry and its characteristics. Furthermore, his ministry can be divided into teaching ministry and pastoral ministry. Within his pastoral ministry we will be able to see him as a ‘pastor-teacher’ (Eph. 4:11) through the vision, the method and the characteristics of his ministry. Lastly, his theology is understood as well as criticized generally on his view of Bible (‘plenary verbal inspiration’) and in particular his view of pneumatology and eschatology and ecclesiology and woman ordination, and WCC.

본 논문은 이동원 목사의 설교를 성경해석학적 관점에서 평가한 글이다. 그러기 위해서는 먼저 인간 이동원에 대한 해석학적 이해가 우선적이어야 한다. 그 이유는 하이데거의 주장처럼, ‘언어는 존재의 집’(Die Sprache ist das Haus des Seins)이기 때문이다. 그러므로 논문은 제2장에서 이동원 목사의 생애와 사역을 역사적으로 관찰한다. 이러한 역사적 이해에 비추어서 제3장은 이동원 목사의 성경관과 신학적 입장을 다룬다. 위의 분석에 따르면, 그는 신학보다는 복음의 중요성이나 복음적 설교에 더 집중하는 복음주의 설교자로 이해된다. 이어 논문은 ‘그의 성경 해석의 원리와 방법’ (제4장)과 ‘그의 설교유형’ (제5장)을 관찰한다. 끝으로 세 가지 설교본문들 (계 2-3장; 마가복음; 로마서 중에서)을 통하여 그의 주해방법의 장점과 단점을 평가한다(제6장). The article is a hermeneutical evaluation of the preaching of Rev. Dong-won Lee. First and foremost, it is important to understand the man, Dong-won Lee from a hermeneutical standpoint as Heidegger insists, `language is the house of Being`(Die Sprache ist das Haus des Seins). Therefore Chapter 2 deals with the historical observation on the life and theministry of Rev. Dong Won Lee. With the observation in mind, chapter 3 deals with his view of the Bible and his theological position. According to the analysis, he is an integral evangelical preacher who focuses on the importance of `gospel` through evangelistic sermons rather than theology. Furthermore the study describes the principles and methods of his biblical interpretation (Chapter 4) and observes the type of his preaching (Chapter 5). Finally the article evaluates the strong points and weak points of his exegetical methods utilizing three passages from the Bible as examples: Revelation 2-3 chapters; the Gospel of Mark; and the Romans (Chapter 6).
