공적 사과 교육의 내용 연구 -사과에 대한 수용 반응을 중심으로

이 연구의 목적은 공적 사과 교육의 내용 초안을 개발하는 데에 있다. 사과라는 언어 행위는 사과의 대상인 사과 받는 이가 해당 사과 메시지를 받아들이는지의 여부에 따라 그 본연의 역할(기능) 수행 정도가 판단된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한 유의미한 공적 사과의 사례를 중심으로 해당 사과가 소통되는 과정에서 사과의 수용 여부 및 정도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 밝히고 이를 기반으로 공적 사과 담화 및 텍스트의 소통 모델을 제시하였다. 사과는 수용됨으로써 언어 행위로서 그 본연의 의미를 갖게 된다는 점에서, 사과 수용 반응을 고려한 공적 사과 담화 및 텍스의 표현 원리를 공적 사과 교육의 내용으로 제시하였다. The purpose of this study is to establish the educational contents of public apologies. The language of the act of apology is judged accord ing to whether or not the subject(s) accept(s) the apology. In this study, I focused on a case involving a series of public apologies and identified the factors that influence on the acceptance of apologies in communication process. In cases when an apology becomes meaningful as a linguistic act by being accepted, the principles of expressions of apologies that are accepted are presented as educational contents of public apologies.

밀턴의 시의 옹호: 「런던 침공」과『교육론』을 중심으로

The purpose of this article is to make a close study of the lifetime efforts of Milton, who concerned himself with the social responsibility of poets and the pedagogical role of poetry for the public good and to show how Milton applied himself to his idea about true poetry and the role of a humanist poet for cultivating citizens who value liberty. In ”When the assault was intended to the City,” Milton must have mused on the role of a true poet in an ideal republic, and the capacity of a great soldier as a citizen. He thought of a poet’s public role as a pedagogical one in Of Education, and struggled to place poetry along with the two important subjects of the trivium, logic and rhetoric. In short, these two works can be safely said to be a Miltonic apology for poetry. “공공 후원자”(public benefactor; Moseley 55)가 되기를 갈망한 밀턴은 평생을 천직으로서 시의 공적 기능과 공인으로서 시인의 사명감에 천착했다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 밀턴이 천착한 시의 윤리적 정당성과 시인의 공적 책무감이 어떻게 발전했는가를 민족 시인으로 성장해 가는 과정을 보여주기 위해 발표한 1645년 『존 밀턴의 시집』(Poems of Mr. John Milton)에 실린 작품들을 중심으로 간략하게 살펴본 후, 그것들이 구체적으로 발현된 사례로 시와 산문에서 각각 한 편씩 선별된 여덟 번째 소네트 「런던 침공」(“When the assault was intended to the City”)과 『교육론』(Of Education, 1644)을 분석하기로 한다. 「런던 침공」에서는 전시라는 급박한 상황에서 생각해본 공동체 구성원으로서 시인의 사명과 문명을 수호하는 시의 역할이 밝혀질 것이며, 『교육론』에서는 윤리 측면에서 문학의 효용성을 비판하는 정치와 종교 분야의 지도자들과 그것을 커리큘럼에서 제외시키려고 하는 교육 개혁가들이 득세하는 세상에서 밀턴이 어떻게 문학을 최종단계에서 배워야 할 가장 중요한 과목 중의 하나로 자리매김하여 과감한 시의 옹호를 실천했는가를 살펴보았다.
