Choi Chi Won's foreign experiences are very interesting because his experiences are various. These experiences are represented in his writings. Thus. many people had thought that he introduced Dang's culture into Shilla. However, I think that his writings have to be reconsidered in terms of cultural exchanges in East Asia. Accordingly, I illustrate that his writings were written in terms of the mingle of three religions (Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism) as well as cultural exchanges with Dang dynasty. First, I searched that the mingle of three religions, which was represented in his writings, was the general trend in the intellectual community from Shilla to the end of Korye dynasty. In fact, this trend had prevailed among the Confucianists until the end of Korye when school of Zhuzi was introduced. Moreover, Buddhist, Ilyeon, argued ‘Hyosunsangmi (harmony between filial piety of Confucianism and goodness of Buddhism)’ in his writing, “Samkookyoosa,” by accepting Choi Chi Won's arguments where the doctrines of three religions were propitiated. Regarding the cultural exchanges represented in his writings, I searched mainly the use of Chinese reign-style, the rise of pro-Chinese people, and Choi Chi Won's distorted explanation about Anham, which could be a problem of shilla's foreign relation with China in the changing period between Soo and Dang dynasty. In addition, I studied the effects of Choi Chi Won's writings, which had been recognized as the important works until Korye dynasty, and his familarity with China. In sum, it may be, at a glance, said that Choi Chi Won introduced Chinese Culture into Shilla. However, I want to argue that he also introduced Shilla culture to Dang dynasty. This is the reason why I explains Choi Chi Won's writings in terms of cultural exchanges in East Asia.
