        Adsorption mechanism of lead ions at ilmenite/water interface and its influence on ilmenite flotability

        In order to get further understanding of lead ions adsorption onto ilmenite surface, zeta potential analysis, adsorption density calculation, FT-IR and XPS analysis were employed. The results showed that the adsorption of lead ions onto ilmenite surface was a chemically dominating process. Lead species could interact with iron-hydroxyl complex compounds to form a Fe–O–Pb complex. The hydrophobic complex of Pb(OL)2 was also observed. Iron and adsorbed lead ions on ilmenite surface served as the main active-sites via chemisorption with oleate species. Introducing lead ions, as a surface modification means, can efficiently improve ilmenite flotability.

        Verification of neutronics and thermal-hydraulic coupled system with pin-by-pin calculation for PWR core

        As an important part of the digital reactor, the pin-by-pin wise fine coupling calculation is a research hotspot in the field of nuclear engineering in recent years. It provides more precise and realistic simulation results for reactor design, operation and safety evaluation. CORCA-K a nodal code is redeveloped as a robust pin-by-pin wise neutronics and thermal-hydraulic coupled calculation code for pressurized water reactor (PWR) core. The nodal green's function method (NGFM) is used to solve the threedimensional space-time neutron dynamics equation, and the single-phase single channel model and one-dimensional heat conduction model are used to solve the fluid field and fuel temperature field. The mesh scale of reactor core simulation is raised from the nodal-wise to the pin-wise. It is verified by two benchmarks: NEACRP 3D PWR and PWR MOX/UO2. The results show that: 1) the pin-by-pin wise coupling calculation system has good accuracy and can accurately simulate the key parameters in steadystate and transient coupling conditions, which is in good agreement with the reference results; 2) Compared with the nodal-wise coupling calculation, the pin-by-pin wise coupling calculation improves the fuel peak temperature, the range of power distribution is expanded, and the lower limit is reduced more

      • Hyperspectral Image Classification by Fusion of Multiple Classifiers

        Hyperspectral image mostly have very large amounts of data which makes the computational cost and subsequent classification task a difficult issue. Firstly, to solve the problem of computational complexity, spectral clustering algorithm is imported to select efficient bands for subsequent classification task. Secondly, due to lack of labeled training sample points, this paper proposes a new algorithm that combines support vector machines and Bayesian classifier to create a discriminative/generative hyperspectral image classification method using the selected features. Experimental results on real hyperspectral image show that the proposed method has better performance than the other state-of-the-art methods.

        Mechanism of Synergetic Growth of Flexibility and Strength of Biomimetic Nanocomposite Fibre

        Nanocomposites with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can combine the stiffness and multi-functionality of carbonnanotubes with the advantages of high toughness and processability of polymers giving rise to properties different from thatof general composites. However, when the content of CNTs increases gradually, the flexibility of the composite fibre canreduce. In this paper, we propose a simple method of softening the composite fibre via dimensional helical deformation offibre inner macromolecule bundles to avoid the deterioration of fibre flexibility. The theoretical simulations were conductedto predict proper helical deformations of the single fibre to increase fibre softness, followed by practical softening of thepolyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF)/CNTs composite by tensional twisting of the single fibres. The fibres with and withouttensional twisting were tested by Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractionand mechanical drawing. Results showed the reinforcement of the PVDF/multi-walled CNTs composite fibres (tensilestrength enhanced from 4.71 to 5.19 cN/dtex) with an evident softness reduction (initial modulus increased from 16.8 to20.52 cN/dtex) as the CNTs content increased from 0 to 1.5 wt%. After the tensional twisting, the initial modulus of thecomposite fibre was reduced by 62.5 % while the fibre strength remained reinforced because biomimetic helix formationimproved the internal structure deformation ability of the fibre.

      • Manifold Sparse Coding Based Hyperspectral Image Classification

        Hyperspectral image classification has received an increasing amount of interest in recent years. However, when representing pixels as vectors, the dimensionality of feature space is high, which causes “curse of dimensionality” problem. In this paper, in order to alleviate the impact of above problem, a manifold sparse coding method is proposed. Firstly, matrix decomposition technique is used to find a concept set and calculates relative data projection in the concept set. Secondly, manifold learning regularization is imported into objective function to capture the intrinsic geometric structure in the data. Finally, LASSO regularization is used to obtain sparse representation of data projection. Experimental results on real hyperspectral image show that the proposed method has better performance than the other state-of-the-art methods.

        Wnt pathway is involved in 5-FU drug resistance of colorectal cancer cells

        Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide. 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is widely used in the treatment of cancers, but its antineoplastic activity is limited in drug-resistant cancer cells. To investigate the detailed mechanism of 5-FU resistance, we developed a model of 5-FU-resistant cells from HCT-8 cells, a wellestablished colorectal cancer cell line. We found that the drug-resistant cells demonstrated high expression of TCF4 and β-catenin, indicating an upregulated Wnt pathway. A microarray analysis revealed that the suppression of the checkpoint kinase 1 (CHK1) pathway explained the resistance to 5-FU, especially in p53 wild-type cancer cells such as HCT-8. Our data also demonstrated that the CHK1 pathway is suppressed by the Wnt pathway in 5-FU-resistant cells. In summary, we have discovered a novel mechanism for 5-FU resistance mediated by histone deacetylation, which also revealed the crosstalk between the Wnt pathway and CHK1 pathway.
