Prostate cancer is third common malignancy in men of old age (average 65 years) in Myanmar. Currently, serum PSA and bone scan are the markers of choice. Because of the evidence-based, promising success of 68Ga-PSMA PET-CT and 177Lu-PSMA theranostics in prostate cancer worldwide, 99mTc-PSMA SPECT-CT imaging and 177Lu-PSMA therapy has launched as a stepping-stone of theranostics in Myanmar with the available facilities. Twelve cases of prostate cancer patients were imaged with 600 MBq of 99mTc-PSMA I+S SPECT-CT. Four metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (MCRPC) patients with abnormal result were treated with 177Lu-PSMA. The protocol consists of 6–8 GBq of 177Lu-PSMA, three successive doses at interval of 4–6 weeks. Post-therapy SPECT-CT imaging was done. All treated patients were improved by free of bone pain, and fall/rise in serum PSA level. Two patients with extensive skeletal metastases succumbed to complications. The results are well documented and present at the multidisciplinary conferences for clinical awareness. Theranostics in prostate cancer with available facilities is an additional boon to our health care professionals to upgrade cancer management in Myanmar. This paper provides the technology with cost effectiveness and benefit to prostate cancer patients of Myanmar.

Cell wall constituents and cell wall hydrolase (CWH) enzyme activities play crucial roles in extending the postharvest storability of apples. 1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) has been extensively used to regulate cell wall metabolism of apples during storage. However, the consequences of 1-MCP can differ according to its concentration and the cultivar being treated. In this study, we investigated how 1-MCP concentrations (0.5 and 1.0 µL·L-1) regulate the cell wall components and the activities of CWH in two new apple cultivars, ‘Arisoo’ and ‘Picnic’, during their cold storage. In 1-MCP-treated fruits, uronic acid (UAC) and total sugar contents (TSC) were significantly higher in ‘Arisoo’, but only UAC was significantly higher in ‘Picnic’, when compared with control fruits. 1-MCP significantly inhibited CWH activities in both cultivars. The results observed between 0.5 and 1.0 µL·L-1 did not diverge obviously in ‘Arisoo’, however, 0.5 µL·L-1 generated better results over 1.0 µL·L-1 in ‘Picnic’. Conclusively, the results suggest that it is economically more appropriate to use 0.5 µL·L-1 1-MCP to extend the postharvest storability of apples, especially ‘Arisoo’, because of its ability to delay the solubilization of fruit softening-related cell wall components and to suppress CWH enzyme activities.

Abstract

Dendrobiumnaungmungense, a new species from Naungmung, Kachin State, North Myanmar, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to D.ciliatilabellum and D.vexabile, but the epichile is oblong with three long-ciliate laminae and the column wing has significant denticulation. A preliminary risk-of-extinction assessment shows that the new species should be regarded as Critically Endangered (CR) according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

Abstract

Trivalvariarubra and Trivalvariacasseabriae, two new species of Annonaceae from Putao, Kachin State, Myanmar, are here described and illustrated. They are morphologically similar to T.costata and T.macrophylla. The major differences between them are outlined and discussed. A diagnostic key to the species of Trivalvaria is provided.
