Trends in the Growth of Literature on Hepatitis(1984-2003): Quantitative Analysis
Babu, B. Ramesh,Ramakrishnan, J. Korean Library and Information Science Society 2007 한국도서관정보학회지 Vol.38 No.2
This paper presents a scientometric analysis of the growth of literature output in the field of Hepatitis covered in three bibliographic databases namely MEDLINE, CINAHL and IPA. The literature covered in three databases for the period 1984-2003 was considered. MEDLINE covered the maximum of 75750 records during the study period 1984 to 2003. This is followed by CINAHL and IPA databases. It is found that the annual growth rate of literature in a particular field of knowledge will not be uniform and in order to measure the rate of growth from year after year, the application of RGR is quite appropriate. The RGR has shown a decreasing trend, with a slight fluctuation of growth rate for the years 1985 and 1997. The output by colleges, universities, corporate sector and research institutions with reference to RGR and Dt has shown mixed results such as increasing trend, decreasing trend and fluctuation trend. Hepatitis research indicates a different picture when the RGR and Dt were calculated by year-wise both in terms of number of papers and number of pages.
Improving Forecast Accuracy of Wind Speed Using Wavelet Transform and Neural Networks
Ramesh Babu. N,Arulmozhivarman. P 대한전기학회 2013 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.8 No.3
In this paper a new hybrid forecast method composed of wavelet transform and neural network is proposed to forecast the wind speed more accurately. In the field of wind energy research, accurate forecast of wind speed is a challenging task. This will influence the power system scheduling and the dynamic control of wind turbine. The wind data used here is measured at 15 minute time intervals. The performance is evaluated based on the metrics, namely, mean square error, mean absolute error, sum squared error of the proposed model and compared with the back propagation model. Simulation studies are carried out and it is reported that the proposed model outperforms the compared model based on the metrics used and conclusions were drawn appropriately.

In this article, we consider singularly perturbed Boundary Value Problems(BVPs) for second order Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs) with Neumann boundary condition and discontinuous source term. A parameter-uniform error bound for the solution is established using the Streamline-Diffusion Finite Element Method (SDFEM) on a piecewise uniform meshes. We prove that the method is almost second order of convergence in the maximum norm, independently of the perturbation parameter. Further we derive superconvergence results for scaled derivatives of solution of the same problem. Numerical results are provided to substantiate the theoretical results.

Successful silkworm breeding attempts were made at Andhra Pradesh State Sericulture Research and Development Institute (APSSRDI), Hindupur, India in developing productive bivoltine silkworm hybrids. One hundred hybrid combinations involving 10 parents (five each of oval and peanut) were evaluated in complete diallel pattern and identified the combination APS$_{83}$ $\times$ APS$_{102}$ as most promising. This hybrid showed economic merit for the characters fecundity (524 eggs/laying), pupation percentage (96.0$\%$), cocoon yield per 10,000 larvae by weight (19.0 kg), cocoon weight (1.85 g), shell weight (41.7 cg), shell ratio (22.5$\%$), filament length (1,004 m), reelability (88.4$\%$), raw silk recovery (18.4$\%$) and neatness (92 point) over the control hybrid APS$_{9}$ $\times$ APS$_{8}$ The breeding process and identification of APS$_{83}$ $\times$ APS$_{102}$ is discussed in the paper.

In this paper, we consider boundary value problem for a weakly coupled system of two singularly perturbed differential equations of convection diffusion type with discontinuous source term. In general, solution of this type of problems exhibits interior and boundary layers. A numerical method based on streamline diffusiom finite element and Shishkin meshes is presented. We derive an error estimate of order $O(N^{-2}\;{\ln}^2\;N$) in the maximum norm with respect to the perturbation parameters. Numerical experiments are also presented to support our theoritical results.
Combining Ability of Diallel Crosses of Bivoltine Silkworm, Bombyx mori L.
Babu M. Ramesh,Chandrashekharaiah Chandrashekharaiah,Lakshmi H.,Prasad J.,Goel A. K. Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2005 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.10 No.1
General and specific combining ability effects of six bivoltine breeds of silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) were evaluated for six quantitative characters through diallel method wherein parents, $F_{1}s$ and reciprocals are involved. The breeds $APS_{11}\;and\;APS_{2}$ were found to be the best general combiners for most of the traits studied. The high estimates of specific combining ability (sca) variance (${\sigma}^{2}s$) compared to general combining ability (gca) variance (${\sigma}^{2}g$) indicated the predominant role of non-additive gene action in the control of all the characters. Positive sca effects for majority of the traits were expressed by the combinations $APS_{13}{\times}APS_6,\;APS_{13}{\times}APS_2,\;APS_{11}{\times}APS_6\;and\;APS_5{\times}APS_2$ out of 15 crosses. Among the 15 reciprocal crosses studied, the combination $APS_8{\times}APS_{13}$ showed positive reciprocal effects for all the six traits. With both the parents $APS_5\;and\;APS_2$ being good general combiners the hybrid $APS_5{\times}APS_2$ showing high sca effects is recommended for commercial use.

We consider singularly perturbed Boundary Value Problems (BVPs) for third and fourth order Ordinary Differential Equations(ODEs) of convection-diffusion type with discontinuous source term and a small positive parameter multiplying the highest derivative. Because of the type of Boundary Conditions(BCs) imposed on these equations these problems can be transformed into weakly coupled systems. In this system, the first equation does not have the small parameter but the second contains it. In this paper a computational method named as 'An asymptotic finite element method' for solving these systems is presented. In this method we first find an zero order asymptotic approximation to the solution and then the system is decoupled by replacing the first component of the solution by this approximation in the second equation. Then the second equation is independently solved by a fitted mesh Finite Element Method (FEM). Numerical experiments support our theoritical results.

Information seeking behaviour is an activity of an individual in the process of identifying information that suits his/her knowledge pursuit. It is observed from the review of literature that there is no single study on the information seeking behaviour of faculties of pharmacy either at state level or national levels in India. Therefore this research has been conducted to bridge the gap on information seeking behaviour of pharmacy faculty in Tamil Nadu in view of the recent developments in information seeking behaviour, with objectives such as: to identify the information needs and seeking behaviour of faculty of the pharmacy educational institutions in Tamil Nadu (India); to examine the motivating factors for information seeking behaviour of the pharmacy faculty; to examine faculty opinions about the comprehensiveness or otherwise of respective institutions' library collections; and to analyse the extent of use and dependence on various sources of information for teaching and research. A total of 729 questionnaires have been distributed among 41 pharmacy educational institutions in Tamil Nadu, out of which 601 have responded, and the response rate is 82.44%. Based on the findings of the study certain implications have been derived as measures to enhance the quality of the pharmacy libraries in Tamil Nadu.
