n-Doping of Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes Using Pyridine-boryl Radicals
Naoki Tanaka,Aoi Hamasuna,Tsuyohiko Fujigaya 한국고분자학회 2021 한국고분자학회 학술대회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.46 No.2
The chemical doping of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) using electron donor and acceptor molecules is a crucial step for controlling the frontier orbital energy gap of SWCNTs. This means that SWCNTs are a promising material for electronics applications such as thermoelectric conversion and thin-film transistors, due to their flexibility, stability and light weight. Among all chemical dopants, 2 organic dopants containing hetero atoms are important materials as they permit fine controllability of the doping level; they also provide stability due to the flexibility of their structural design. In this study, we found that pyridine-boryl (py-boryl) radicals serve as efficient electron-doping reagents for SWCNTs, in which the doping mechanism comprises electron transfer from the py-boryl radical to the SWCNT. The formation of a stable py-boryl cation is essential for efficient doping; the captodative effect of the py-boryl cation is important to this process.

Objective To measure muscle activity before and after robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) in patients with stroke and examine the differences in muscle activity changes compared with conventional gait training (CGT).Methods Thirty patients with stroke (RAGT group, n=17; CGT group, n=13) participated in the study. All patients underwent RAGT using a footpad locomotion interface or CGT for 20 minutes for a total of 20 sessions. Outcome measures were lower-limb muscle activity and gait speed. Measurements were performed before the start of the intervention and after the end of the 4-week intervention. Results The RAGT group showed increased muscle activity in the gastrocnemius, whereas the CGT group showed high muscle activity in the rectus femoris. In the terminal stance of the gait cycle, the gastrocnemius, the increase in muscle activity was significantly higher in the RAGT group than in the CGT group. Conclusion The results suggest that RAGT with end-effector type is more effective than CGT to increase the gastrocnemius muscle activity.

Background/Aims: Dual red imaging (DRI) is a new, image-enhanced endoscopy technique. There are few reports about the usefulnessof DRI during gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). We aimed to examine the usefulness of DRI in endoscopic hemostasisduring gastric ESD. Methods: We enrolled a total of 20 consecutive patients who underwent gastric ESD. Five endoscopists compared DRI with white lightimaging (WLI) for the visibility of blood vessels and bleeding points while performing endoscopic hemostasis. Results: The visibility of blood vessels was increased in 56% (19/34) of the cases, and the visibility of bleeding points was improved in55% (11/20) of the cases with the use of DRI compared with the use of WLI. Conclusions: DRI improved the visibility of blood vessels and bleeding points in cases with oozing bleeding, blood pooling around thebleeding points, and multiple bleeding points.

Application of Pseud-superplastic PM Process to Ti-Al Intermetallic Compound for MEMS Parts

A non-equilibrium powder metallurgy processing such as an MA/SPS (Mechanical Alloying / Spark Plasma Sintering) process is examined in a Ti-48moll%Al. TiAl intermetallic compound is a potential light-weight/high-temperature structural material. One of the major problems, however, limiting the practical use of the material is its poor workability. From this point, the powder metallurgy (PM) processing route has been attractive alternative of the conventional processing for such material The MA/SPS process is able to apply to a LIGA process. Optimization of the pseudo-superplasticity enables to fabricate micro-parts made of fine grained ceramics composites of TiAl by the LIGA process.
A novel HSF1-mediated death pathway that is suppressed by heat shock proteins

Heat shock response is an adoptive response to proteotoxic stress, and a major heat shock transcription factor 1 (HSF1) has been believed to protect cells from cell death by inducing heat shock proteins (Hsps) that assist protein folding and prevent protein denaturation. However, it is revealed recently that HSF1 also promotes cell death of male germ cells. Here, we found a proapoptotic Tdag51 (T-cell death associated gene 51) gene as a direct target gene of HSF1. Heat shock and other stresses induced different levels of Hsps and Tdag51, which depend on cell types. Hsps bound directly to the N-terminal pleckstrin-homology like (PHL) domain of Tdag51, and suppressed death activity of the C-terminal proline/glutamine/histidine-rich domain. Tdag51, but not major Hsps, were induced in male germ cells exposed to high temperatures. Analysis of Tdag51-null testes showed that Tdag51 played substantial roles in promoting heat shock-induced cell death in vivo. These data suggest that cell fate on proteotoxic condition is determined at least by balance between Hsp and Tdag51 levels, which are differently regulated by HSF1.
