CdS Nanopowder and Nanofilm: Simultaneous Synthesis and Structural Analysis
Suresh Kumar,Pankaj Sharma,Vineet Sharma 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.3
Chemical bath deposition technique has been used for simultaneous synthesis of CdS nanopowder and nanofilm. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) studies show a predominant α-CdS structure. Structural parameters show a random lattice disorder and bond length contraction leading to high density of nanopowder and nanofilm in comparison to standard CdS. The columnar structure growth of the nanofilm devoid of grain boundaries may be explored for window layers.

Metal binding proteins or metallo-proteins are important for the stability of the protein and also serve as co-factors in various functions like controlling metabolism, regulating signal transport, and metal homeostasis. In structural genomics, prediction of metal binding proteins help in the selection of suitable growth medium for overexpression’s studies and also help in obtaining the functional protein. Computational prediction using machine learning approach has been widely used in various fields of bioinformatics based on the fact all the information contains in amino acid sequence. In this study, random forest machine learning prediction systems were deployed with simplified amino acid for prediction of individual major metal ion binding sites like copper, calcium, cobalt, iron, magnesium, manganese, nickel, and zinc.

In an aquatic environment, toxicity of metals to organisms depends on external factors (type of metal, exposure concentration and duration, environmental parameters, and water quality) and intracellular processes (metal-binding sites and detoxification). Toxicity of copper (Cu) on the marine microalga Tetraselmis suecica was investigated in this study. Dose-dependent (Cu concentration dependent) inhibition of growth and cell division, as well as, variation of intra- and extra-cellular Cu, Fe and Zn content was observed. T. suecica was sensitive to Cu; the 96 h EC50 (concentration to inhibit growth-rate by 50%) of growth rate (μ) (21.73 μM L-1), cell division day-1 (18.39 μM L-1), and cells mL-1 (13.25 μM L-1) demonstrate the toxicity of Cu on this microalga. High intra- (19.86 Pg cell-1) and extra-cellular (54.73 Pg cell-1) Cu concentrations were recorded, on exposure to 24.3 and 72.9 μM L-1 of Cu.
Conductive Nanocomposites Based on Polystyrene Microspheres and Silver Nanowires by Latex Blending
Sureshkumar, Manthiriyappan,Na, Hyo Yeol,Ahn, Kyung Hyun,Lee, Seong Jae American Chemical Society 2015 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.7 No.1

Metallic nanowires with excellent electrical conductivity and high aspect ratio are critical in the preparation of conductive polymer nanocomposites. In this work, highly conductive polystyrene/silver nanowire (PS/AgNW) nanocomposites were prepared by latex blending, and their electrical and rheological properties were investigated. A high yield of long and thin AgNWs was synthesized with the polyol method. AgNWs were incorporated with highly monodisperse PS microspheres to produce polymer nanocomposites with a nanowire network structure providing electrical pathways. An electrically conductive network of AgNWs was obtained at an electrical percolation threshold of 0.49 vol % AgNW, and an electrical conductivity of 102 S/m was obtained at 1 vol %. The dynamic rheological properties evaluated at 1 vol % also confirmed that the AgNWs were physically connected to one another at this concentration.

Graphic Abstract

ACS Electronic Supporting Info

An anomalous electrokinetic dispersion after contraction of carbon nanotube (CNT) cluster suspended in a vertically aligned nematic liquid crystal (LC) cell is demonstrated. CNT aggregates were firstly aligned toward the field line by dielectrophoretic (DEP) torque and secondly they were elongated above a certain threshold field due to interaction between the induced dipole moment of CNTs and external ac electric field. Below a certain breakdown field, the original morphology of the CNT aggregates was restored after the removal of the field where the elongation was fully reversible. Above breakdown electric field, CNT aggregates were ruptured and fragmented into small pieces and consequently CNTs were well dispersed in LC medium.

Intensified Sentiment Analysis of Customer Product Reviews Using Acoustic and Textual Features
Sureshkumar Govindaraj,Kumaravelan Gopalakrishnan 한국전자통신연구원 2016 ETRI Journal Vol.38 No.3
Sentiment analysis incorporates natural language processing and artificial intelligence and has evolved as an important research area. Sentiment analysis on product reviews has been used in widespread applications to improve customer retention and business processes. In this paper, we propose a method for performing an intensified sentiment analysis on customer product reviews. The method involves the extraction of two feature sets from each of the given customer product reviews, a set of acoustic features (representing emotions) and a set of lexical features (representing sentiments). These sets are then combined and used in a supervised classifier to predict the sentiments of customers. We use an audio speech dataset prepared from Amazon product reviews and downloaded from the YouTube portal for the purposes of our experimental evaluations.

Five day old cotyledon explants of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L) cv Poinsett 76 were cocultivated with two Agrobacterium strains (EHA105 and LBA 4404) each carrying GUS as the reporter gene and npt-II as the selection marker gene in the T-DNA region of the vector. Transformed shoots were selected at 150 mg/L kanamycin. A two day cocultivation coupled with $20\;{\mu}M$ acetosyringone increased the frequency (8.2 and 15.4 shoots) of GUS expression in the shoots of transformed plant. Among the two Agrobacterium strains, EHA 105 performed better than LBA 4404 in bringing two-fold increase in transformation efficiency (14%) than LBA 4404 (7.4%). PCR analysis was done to confirm the integration of T-DNA into cucumber genome.
