<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is an effective oxidizing agent that is commonly used in industry. In the presence of metal catalysts, H2O2 can decompose into water and oxygen. Understanding this process at a fundamental level is extremely important for a number of industrial applications, e.g. the direct synthesis of H2O2 from H2 and O2. Here, we studied the rates of H2O2 decomposition on Pt/n-Si catalysts using a chemicurrent approach that is based on the detection of hot electrons created during dissociative adsorption of H2O2 molecules on platinum. We showed that both the rate of H2O2 decomposition and the corresponding chemicurrent are sensitive to the pH of the reactive solution. This phenomenon is explained by variation of the potential barrier for electron transfer at the Pt/solution interface caused by adsorption of H+ and OH− species from the solution on the catalytic surface.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Hot electrons at liquid–solid interfaces during H2O2 decomposition are probed. </LI> <LI> Pt/n-Si catalytic nanodiodes are fabricated for hot electron detection. </LI> <LI> PH effect on the rate of charge transfer during H2O2 decomposition is studied. </LI> <LI> We show that charge transfer is more intensive in acidic H2O2 solutions. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

In this study, the vertical distribution of giant jellyfish analyzed echo counting method and such survey methods as sighting and trawl were used to compare its density estimates. In May and July 2021, surveys were conducted in the East China Sea and the coastal waters of Korea. As a result, Nemopilema nomurai were evenly distributed in all water layers in East China Sea in May and July. When considered the correlation by each survey methods, it is possible to identify jellyfish in the surface area by sighting method and using sampling net; however, it has a low correlation with acoustic estimates due to marine environmental factor such as weather condition, wind and atmospheric pressure. Therefore, the result can be utilized by basic data when estimating jellyfish’s distribution patterns and density estimates from each survey methods hereafter.
Preliminary evaluation of multi-vibration haptic feedback on a steering wheel spinner
Sunyoung Oh,Jeha Ryu 제어로봇시스템학회 2013 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2013 No.10
One of the useful haptic technology applications in a car is warning and menu control in order to reduce or avoid accidents. Warning and menu control systems have been separated due to the limitations of the position that can apply to both warning and menu control, furthermore, existing menu control system cannot express large number of information through tactile stimuli. This paper presents a preliminary evaluation result based on a novel haptic interface system that integrates warning and menu control in the steering wheel spinner. We investigate how to make the effective stimuli using the eccentric rotating mass (ERM) motor through multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis. Main result shows that switching multiple vibration motors can make significant differences in stimuli perception.

Aim(s): Heart failure (HF) is known as the most common cause of hospital readmission. This highlights the importance of effective discharge education on self-care. Teach-back methods are one of the commonly used teaching strategies used in discharge education to improve various patient health outcomes. However, its effectiveness in patients with heart failure has not been not fully investigated yet. The purpose of this systematic review is to identify the effectiveness of discharge education using the teach-back method on health outcomes in patients with HF. Method(s): Studies in English and published up until July 2021 were searched in MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, The Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, and the search terms were discharged patient, and teach-back”, and we did not limit the outcomes. Three trained reviewers assessed the risk of bias of retrieved studies using the Risk of Bias 2.0 Cochrane tool and Risk of Bias Assessment tool for Nonrandomized Studies. Data were analyzed using Cochrane Review Manager (Revman) software 5.2. Result(s): Twelve studies were assessed for eligibility, and only seven of them were included after excluding studies with high risk of bias. Three studies were RCTs, whereas the others were quasi-experimental studies. Most of the studies included the four stages of teach-back education: giving instruction, assessing patient understanding, reinstructing and reassessing patient understanding. Outcome variables included readmission rate, knowledge of HF, self-care behaviors for HF, physician/medical visit and quality of life. Six studies were included in the meta-analysis for examining the effectiveness of discharge education with the teach-back method on readmission rate. Under a random-effect model, the odds ratio was 9.38 (95% confidence interval, 0.17-0.86). Conclusion(s): Discharge education using TBM is effective in various patient health outcomes, particularly in reducing patients’ readmission rate. Further research is needed to identify effectiveness of discharge education using TBM in other patient groups.

<P>To elucidate the factors affecting the catalytic properties of supported Au catalysts on the metal oxide support we investigated Au NPs deposited on crystallized mesoporous transition-metal oxides (<I>m</I>-oxides: Co3O4, NiO, and α-Fe2O3) prepared using the nanocasting method. The metal-oxide interaction in Au/mesoporous oxides resulted in higher catalytic activity for converting methanol to CO2 as a full oxidation product than pure <I>m</I>-oxides. Au/<I>m</I>-Fe2O3 exhibited high activity and low selectivity for methyl formate as a partial oxidative coupling product. We correlate the change in activity and selectivity with the interface between the Au and <I>m</I>-oxides.</P>
Pain and anxiety and their relationship with medication doses in the intensive care unit
Park, Sunyoung,Na, Se Hee,Oh, Jooyoung,Lee, Jong Seok,Oh, Seung-Taek,Kim, Jae-Jin,Park, Jin Young Elsevier 2018 Journal of critical care Vol.47 No.-
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Purpose</B></P> <P>Pain and anxiety are understudied despite their importance to the general medical condition. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of pain and anxiety and their relationship to the doses of opioids and anxiolytics administered in intensive care unit (ICU) patients.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>The subjects included 1349 conscious, critically ill patients admitted to an ICU. Psychiatrists evaluated the patients daily for pain and anxiety. Data regarding the doses of opioids and benzodiazepines administered were gathered. Linear mixed model was used for analysis.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>The pain and anxiety experienced by patients in the ICU were significantly correlated. Pain had significant main effects on the dose of opioids administered. No significant effects of anxiety on the daily dose of anxiolytics or opioids given were detected.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Due to their closely linked relationship, pain and anxiety, can affect one another, and one can influence the other to appear more severe. In addition, anxiety can be underestimated in ICU patients. The present study suggests the need for precise evaluation and a comprehensive approach to the management of pain and anxiety. In addition, this study implies that management of anxiety may affect pain reduction, given the close correlation between the two.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The pain and anxiety experienced by ICU patients were significantly correlated. </LI> <LI> This study implies management of anxiety. </LI> </UL> </P>
