Lack of Altered BECN1 Gene Expression in Iranian Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML), one of the most prevalent leukemia types in adults, demonstrates great heterogeneity in molecular and clinical terms. Hence, there is a necessity to the mechanisms involved in AML generation in order to determine optimal treatment. This cross sectional study aimed to assess changes in BECN1 gene expression in with blood samples from 30 AML patients, compared with samples from 15 healthy persons. RNA was extracted and cDNA was synthesized and Real Time PCR applied to determine BECN1 gene expression. The results showed no significant differences in BECN1 gene expression between patients with AML and normal controls (P > 0.05). It appears that expression of BECN1 does not play a significant role in genesis of AML leukemia.
Isotherm and Kinetic Studies in Dyeing of Citric Acid-Crosslinked Cotton with Cationic Natural Dye

In this study, cotton fabric was crosslinked with citric acid (CA) in the presence of sodium hypophosphite using apad-dry-cure process under the optimum conditions. The chemistry and morphology of the crosslinked fibers were studiedand compared with the untreated fibers using FTIR and SEM. The crosslinked fabric was dyed with the natural cationic dye,berberine, obtained from the roots of Berberis vulgaris. The effects of dyebath conditions, including dye concentration, pH,and temperature, on the color strength of the dyed samples were investigated, and the mean values were compared usingSPSS. The isotherm and kinetics of the dyeing of the CA-treated fabric with berberine were investigated. The results showedthat the color strength of the dyed samples increased with increasing the dye concentration, pH, and temperature. The bestfittingisotherm and kinetic models were Freundlich and pseudo-second-order models, respectively.

Water pollution control and the development of clean technologies for water, air and soil treatments comprise one of the most important challenges for modern society. Ozone is known as a strong and clean oxidizing agent that can be used for water and wastewater treatment. In this research, a novel Ti/TiHx/SnO₂-Sb₂O5-NiO-CNT modified titanium electrode containing carbon nanotubes (CNT) was fabricated for in-situ ozone generation. The electrode was characterized using SEM, XRD and LSV techniques. CNT presence caused an increase in ozone generation efficiency leading to the higher concentrations of dissolved ozone in water compared to the recently reported researchers. Ozone generation at the surface of the electrode was determined using the standard indigo method. Electrochemical ozone was further used in degradation of C.I. Reactive red 195 (RR 195). It was found that the modified electrode could degrade 96% of RR 195 from initial concentration of 300 mg∙L<SUP>-1</SUP> in 30 min under current density of 20 mA∙cm<SUP>-2</SUP>. COD removal was also measured as high as 60 percent.
