      • A STUDY ON THE WEARING CONDITION OF SKINNY JEANS OF WOMEN IN THEIR TWENTIES

        Selin Choi,Wol-hee Do 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회(GFMC) 2015 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2015 No.06

Buying tight-fit pants by 20’s women who want to be looked like slim and having long legs has increased department store jeans sales and represents a ‘fashion horror fever’(“Skinny jeans”, 2006). Steady interest in skinny jeans for 20’s women transformed it from a fashionable item to an essential item. In particular, the selection as a best seller item and consistent skinny jean sales have established a ‘Ultra supper skinny fit’ fashion that emphasize a slim line (“Ultra super skinny jeans”, 2010). This study investigates the wearing condition and dissatisfaction of women in their twenties who mainly wear skinny jeans. The survey was completed by question investigation from June to July 2014 on 20’s aged women living in Gwangju. A total of 298 copies of questionnaire were used for the analysis. The questionnaire is made up of 28 questions: 4 general questions, 3 wearing conditions of jean pants, 10 wearing conditions of skinny jeans, and 11 fitness of skinny jeans. The analysis method used descriptive statistics like frequency, percentage, and mean value using SPSS Statistics 20.0. The majority of all respondents were 20’s women were mostly unmarried students. A total of 90% knew their general pant size and 79.9% selected skinny jeans for mainly wearing pant. The results of image perception survey for jean pants, they selected skinny jeans for most images such as ‘Slim look’, ‘Long leg look’, ‘Body reshaping’, and ‘Timeless’ except ‘Comfortable to act’. Women in their 20’s have a positive image of skinny jeans that corresponds with the above results in regards to the wearing of skinny jeans. Only 15.4% perceived the skinny jeans size; however, 90% perceived their general pants size and 73.5% selected ‘After wearing’ as they select pants size. The survey about fitness of wearing skinny jeans indicated dissatisfaction with, ‘There are distinctions according to tight-fit pants brands’, and they appealed the fitness dissatisfaction in several parts such as ‘waist’, ‘abdominal’, and ‘crotch’. They had also dissatisfaction in other parts: ‘pant length’ ‘wrinkles under the crotch’ and ‘crotch length’. Skinny jeans are essential items most frequent worn among various types of pants, and their awareness is very positive in 20’s women. However, most respondent have little perception about skinny jean pants size, especially with a dissatisfaction about waist, abdominal abdominal, crotch fitness and size difference per pant brands. Based on the results, skinny jeans sizing systems and pattern development will be done.

Ultrasound-guided PENG block versus intraarticular corticosteroid injection in hip osteoarthritis: a randomised controlled study

Selin Guven Kose,Halil Cihan Kose,Feyza Celikel,Serkan Tulgar,Omer Taylan Akkaya 대한통증학회 2023 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.36 No.2

Background: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block and intra-articular injection (IAI) of steroid-bupivacaine in the treatment of hip osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: After randomization, patients received either a PENG block or IAI under ultrasound-guidance. Clinical evaluations were recorded at baseline, day 1, and weeks 1, 4, and 8 post-intervention. The numerical rating scale (NRS), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC), Harris Hip Scale (HHS) scores, pain medication use determined by a quantitative analgesic questionnaire, and patient satisfaction were evaluated. Results: Sixty patients were included in this study. NRS scores improved significantly for both groups during the follow-up compared to pretreatment (P < 0.001), with better pain scores for the PENG group (P < 0.001) at day 1 with larger effect size (Cohen’s d = 4.62), and IAI group at 4 (Cohen’s d = 5.15) and 8 (Cohen’s d = 4.33) weeks (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in pain medication consumption (P = 0.499) and patient satisfaction (P = 0.138) between groups. Patients in the IAI group experienced significant improvement in HHS (Cohen’s d = 2.16, P = 0.007) and WOMAC (Cohen’s d = 1.02, P = 0.036) scores at 8 weeks compared to the PENG group. Conclusions: The ultrasound-guided PENG block provides effective pain relief which improves functionality and quality of life in hip OA patients up to 2 months. The PENG block can be considered an easy, safe, and useful alternative treatment modality for hip OA.

Contribution of Metabolic Parameters and Pericolic Fat Stranding on Preoperative 18F-FDG PET/CT in Predicting Post-operative Histopathology and Outcome in Colorectal Cancer

Selin Soyluoglu Demir 대한핵의학회 2023 핵의학 분자영상 Vol.57 No.5

Purpose We aimed to investigate the additional value of preoperative PET/CT and reveal relationships between metabolicparameters, pericolic fat stranding finding, postoperative histopathology, and overall survival in colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods CRC patients who underwent preoperative PET/CT between January 2017-December 2021 were analyzed. Lymphnodes, organ metastases, and metabolic parameters were evaluated from PET/CT. The pericolic fat stranding was evaluatedfrom CT component. Relationships between these factors and postoperative histopathological findings were statisticallyanalyzed. Survival analyses were performed. Results Ninety-one patients (59 males, 32 females) were included in the study. All tumors showed high FDG uptake (meanSUVmax 19.5 ± 9.9). SUVmax of the tumor differed significantly at T3 and T4 stages (p = 0.041). A significant correlationwas found between MTV, TLG values and the differentiation degree (p = 0.005, 0.003, respectively). PET/CT predictedthe N stage with a high accuracy rate (80%). PET/CT found additional metastases that changed treatment decisions inone-third of patients. A relationship was found between tumor length, surgical margin, lymphovascular invasion and pericolicfat stranding. In multivariate analysis, differentiation degree (HR = 26.1, 95%CI 1.672–408.467), MTV (HR = 0.3,95%CI 0.071–0.841), TLG (HR = 3.5, 95%CI 1.065–11.193), and lymphovascular invasion (HR = 0.2, 95%CI 0.026–0.853,p = 0.033) were independent factors affecting overall survival. Conclusion Preoperative PET/CT contributes to CRC management by detecting additional metastases as well as predictingprognosis and postoperative findings such as T stage, N stage and tumor differentiation. The SUVmax may differentiatebetween T3 and T4 tumor. Reporting of pericolic fat stranding may contribute to the estimation of lymphatic invasion andpositive surgical margin.

Predictive factors associated with successful response to utrasound guided genicular radiofrequency ablation

Selin Guven Kose,Halil Cihan Kose,Feyza Celikel,Omer Taylan Akkaya 대한통증학회 2022 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.35 No.4

Background: Ultrasound-guided genicular nerve radiofrequency (RF) procedures are of interest in the management of chronic knee pain. A wide variety of demographic, clinical, and procedural characteristics can affect treatment success. This study aimed to determine predictive factors to provide superior treatment outcomes. Methods: The demographic, clinical, and technical data of patients who received genicular nerve RF for knee pain between September 2016 and September 2021 were evaluated. A positive outcome was defined as at least 50% pain relief on a pain score for at least 6 months. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the factors associated with a successful response to genicular RF. Results: Among 206 patients who underwent genicular RF, 62% of the patients reported successful outcomes at 6 months. In the multivariate model, targeting 5 nerves (odds ratio [OR], 6.184; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.291–16.690; P < 0.001) was the most significant predictor of successful outcomes. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that prognostic genicular nerve block with a 50% cut-off value (OR, 2.109; 95% CI, 1.038–4.287; P = 0.039), no opioid use (OR, 2.753; 95% CI, 1.405–5.393; P = 0.003), and depression (OR, 0.297; 95% CI, 0.124–0.713; P = 0.007) were the predictive factors significantly associated with response to genicular RF. Conclusions: Clinical and technical factors associated with better treatment outcomes were ultimately targeting more nerves, performing prognostic block, no opioid use, and no depression. These results are expected to be considered when selecting patients for genicular RF.

A novel technology for extraction of phenolic antioxidants from mandarin (Citrus deliciosa Tenore) leaves: Solvent-free microwave extraction

Selin Şahin 한국화학공학회 2015 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.32 No.5

Solvent-free microwave extraction (SFME) of polyphenols and flavonoids from mandarin (Citrus deliciosa Tenore) leaves was investigated. A face central composite design (FCCD) through response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to study the effects of extraction time (30-90 sec), microwave irradiation power (250-350 W) and solid mass (2.5-7.5 g), and to optimize the extraction process. The optimum conditions were: extraction time, 53.155 sec; microwave power, 339.190W; and solid mass, 2.500 g. Under the optimum conditions, 0.8610mg-GAE/g-DL of total phenolic content (TPC) and 0.2440mg-CE/g-DL of total flavonoid content (TFC) were extracted. The antioxidant activity of the extracts was assessed by cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) methods, respectively. Antioxidant values were expressed as mg trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity per gram of dried leaf (mg- TEAC/g-DL). CUPRAC values were highly correlated with both TPC and TFC (r=0.9282/0.8842, P=0.05) in the extracts, whilst DPPH (r=0.7717/0.7435, P=0.05) and ABTS (r=0.6814/0.7072, P=0.05) were relatively less correlated with the same responses.

Comparative study of modeling the stability improvement of sunflower oil with olive leaf extract

Selin Şahin,Ezgi Sayim,Ruya Samli 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.8

Commercially available sunflower oil was enriched in polyphenols by adding olive leaf extract. After extracting the dried and ground olive leaves with the assistance of homogenizer, total phenolic content (TPC) and oleuropein concentration of the extract were determined. The dried extract was partially dissolved into the sunflower oil to increase the quality and shelf-life of the oil enriched by the substances in the plants by means of solid-liquid extraction method. A face central composite design (FCCD) through response surface methodology (RSM) was used to investigate the effects of enrichment conditions (extract content, time and mixing speed) on the responses, TPC and oleuropein concentration of the enriched sunflower oil as well as to design of experiments, to model and to optimize the process. The enriched sunflower oil obtained at optimum conditions was evaluated in terms of its TPC, oleuropein, total carotenoid content (TCC), antioxidant activity (AA), peroxide value (PV) and induction time (IT), depending on those of the crude oil. Furthermore, artificial neural networks (ANN) were also employed to compare the predicted results of RSM.

Grafting of perylene and naphthalene fluorophores onto chitosan for improved thermal, optical and electrical properties

        Selin Temurlu,Mosab A. A. Abureesh,Arwa Abourajab,Pelin Karsili,Meltem Dinleyici,Sinem Altınışık,Sermet Koyuncu,Huriye Icil 한국고분자학회 2024 Macromolecular Research Vol.32 No.4

The grafting of N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic-3,4-anhydride-9,10-imide (4) and N- (4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic-1,8-anhydride-4,5-imide (8) onto low-molecular-weight chitosan (5) was performed. The fluorescence, stability, electroactivity, conductivity, and solubility properties of the grafted chitosan polymer 9 were highly enhanced compared to the original chitosan. The weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of 19,800 g/mol was obtained. Grafted chitosan has even more excellent thermal stability with a higher initial decomposition temperature of 285 °C and char yield at 900 °C up to 73%. The fluorescence quantum yield efficiencies for polymer 9 are very high in all studied solvents (70% in CH3CN). The polymer showed five stepwise, fast, reversible one-electron reductions in electrochemical investigations due to the conductive fluorophores 4 and 8. The HOMO/LUMO levels were calculated as − 5.56 and − 4.14 eV, corresponding to the low band gap of 1.42 eV. The spectroelectrochemistry investigations confirmed the nature of the electron transfers. The morphological characterization using AFM, SEM, and TEM methods indicated a highly crystalline character of the grafted chitosan. The modified chitosan has the potential to be applied in various organic photonics and as a significant substrate material.
