A Study on the Spatial Characteristics of Smart Work Centers in Korea

Koo, Sanghoe,Lee, Hyunhee Architectural Institute of Korea 2014 Architectural research Vol.16 No.4

Smart Work is a way of working independent of time and space restrictions with the help of ICT. For past years, Korea has been promoting Smart Work to boost ICT industry, to overcome low birth rate and population ageing, and to implement Smart Korea. Three elements of Smart Work include people, technology and space. A lot of research has been performed on people and technology for Smart Work. But it is hard to find research on space. In this paper, some representative smart work centers(SWCs) in Korea were selected and analyzed from the perspective of spatial design including general characteristics, personal spaces, group spaces, and support spaces. From this research, it is observed that current SWCs in Korea are good in providing personal work spaces and simple group meeting rooms as well as ICT environments. However, they lack of openness to the public and group spaces to encourage informal communications. It is also observed that personal space plans need to be multi-functional, and that novel supporting spaces are required to improve quality of life and creativity of workers.

Observations on Spatial Characteristics for Successful Smart Offices and Smart Work Centers

        Sanghoe Koo,Hyunhee Lee 대한건축학회 2017 Architectural research Vol.19 No.2

Advances in information and mobile technologies have changed the traditional firm ways of working very flexible, collaborative and innovative, resulting in the changes in work place structures and layouts. Despite the growing body of literature examining the novel ways of working, which is called smart work, there is little academic attentions paid to the spatial aspects of new work places, namely smart offices and smart work centers. This research explores the spatial changes of work places that improve business efficiency and collaboration among workers suitable for the novel ways of working. Conducting in-depth field surveys on selected cases, we analyzed the changes in spatial structure and operation policies of smart offices and smart work centers. From this survey, we observed that the new work places under study take various novel spatial forms and they have flexible operating policies such as flexible seating and flexible work hours. We also found that it would be difficult to change existing business practices and typical ways of performing tasks, without changing the bureaucratic spatial designs and layouts. Future studies are suggested to examine how spatial structures and layouts of offices have impacts on space utilization, collaboration, creativity, and job satisfaction.

Finance, Production Efficiency, and Growth: Evidence from the Korean Manufacturing Industries

Jaewoon Koo,Sangho Kim 서울대학교 경제연구소 1999 Seoul journal of economics Vol.12 No.2

Numerous studies have focused on the development of financial market as a driving force in economic growth. We find that the provision of financial services enhances production efficiency, and thereby promotes economic growth. Applying the stochastic frontier production function approach to the panel data of the Korean regional manufacturing industries, we show that an increase in financial services is associated with the reduction in technical inefficiency. It implies that the supply of financial services is essential to economic growth.

dNP2-ctCTLA-4 inhibits German cockroach extract-induced allergic airway inflammation and hyper-responsiveness via inhibition of Th2 responses

        Lim, Sangho,Ho Sohn, Jung,Koo, Ja-Hyun,Park, Jung-Won,Choi, Je-Min Nature Publishing Group 2017 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.49 No.8

German cockroaches are major household allergens that can trigger allergic airway inflammatory diseases with sensitive T-cell responses. Although the use of immune modulatory biologics, such as antibodies, to mediate allergic responses has recently been examined, only systemic administration is available because of the size limitations on intranasal administration. Here we utilized a cell-permeable peptide, dNP2, to deliver the cytoplasmic domain of cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (ctCTLA-4) through the airway epithelium to modulate Th2 responses in a German cockroach extract (GCE)-induced allergic airway inflammation model. The intranasal delivery efficiency of the dNP2-dTomato protein to the lungs was higher in GCE-induced asthmatic lung parenchymal cells compared to the sham cells. Intranasal administration of the dNP2-ctCTLA-4 protein inhibited airway hyper-responsiveness and reduced airway inflammation and remodeling, including goblet cell metaplasia and collagen deposition around the bronchi. The number of infiltrated cells, including eosinophils, and the levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 and IFN-γ in the lungs were significantly reduced, presumably owing to inhibition of Th2 differentiation. However, intranasal administration of CTLA4-Ig did not inhibit airway inflammation. These results collectively suggest that dNP2-ctCTLA-4 is an efficient intranasally applicable candidate biologic for treating allergic asthma.

        통행목적을 고려한 통행시간 영향요인 분석

        구자헌(KOO, Jahun),추상호(CHOO, Sangho) 대한교통학회 2021 대한교통학회지 Vol.39 No.5

A day consists of 24 hours, and people perform a variety of activities during the time period. Travel time is related to activities, since travel is derived demand. According to the travel time budget theory, the average travel time appears to be constant over time. However, travel time by purpose affects each other given that the total travel time is constant. Therefore, this study aims to analyze factors to influence the changes of travel time by purpose considering their correlations. The data for this analysis come from the time use survey data of Statistics Korea in 2009 and 2019, focused on people over school age. Prior to modeling, we conducted a correlation analysis, resulting in significant correlations of all pairs of travel times by purpose. Accordingly, a seemingly unrelated regression model was developed. The results of the model are as follows. First, it was found that both population density and urban ratio had positive influences on travel time. Second, the individual variables are more significant than the household variables in the model. Third, the effect of the number of trips on travel time by purpose gradually increased over time. These results can be useful for establishing transport policy strategies related to travel time.
