Acceptance and the probiotic viability of aninnovative non-dairy frozen açaí (Euterpe oleracea, Mart.)dessert supplemented and not supplemented with inulinduring a shelf-life of 84 days at −18oC were investigated. Desserts containing and not containing probiotic Lactobacillusacidophilus La-5 and Bifidobacterium animalis Bb-12 andinulin were produced, resulting in 4 mixes of frozen açaí:control (M1), pro (M2), pre (M3), and synbiotic (M4). Sensory acceptability scores and probiotic counts wereobtained during 84 days of storage. Inulin, a key factor forproduct approval, significantly (p<0.05) increased overallproduct acceptance of both M3 and M4, compared withM1. La-5 viability was above 7 log CFU/g for both pro andsynbiotic desserts. Bb-12 counts were above 6 log CFU/gonly for M4. All frozen açaí desserts were suitable forprobiotic delivery and were accepted by consumers. Addition of inulin is recommended both for increasingacceptance and for the synbiotic potential.

Water motion is one of the main drivers in morphological variability in species within de order Laminariales, and most of our current knowledge is based on subtidal populations. $Eisenia$ $arborea$ is a dominant kelp species in the North Pacific, widely distributed along the Baja California Peninsula from mid intertidal down to subtidal areas. This species presents great variability in the intertidal zone but it has not been yet evaluated such variability according to wave exposure. The present work also identifies the spatial / temporal variation, particularly respect to the presence of stipes without medulla (hollow stipes) a feature common among other brown seaweeds. We evaluated the effects of wave action in morphological variation of intertidal $Eisenia$ $arborea$ (Laminariales, Ochrophyta) at Punta Eugenia. The spatial and temporal variation sampling was surveyed between February, May, July, and August 2004 in the intertidal of Punta Eugenia, Baja California Sur. Our results have shown that exposed sites correlate with increased length and width of stipes as compared to more protected sites. Hollow stipes frequency changed more in association with temporal variation than with spatial heterogeneity suggesting nutrient limitation for thalli development. Our results suggest that $Eisenia$ $arborea$ compensate by morphological modifications the stress of living in the intertidal zone by showing larger stipes. Hollow stipes might be are also a mechanical adaptation to increase survival in high energy environments.

Simulation has shown good results in medical scenarios in which the patient’s problem can be solved by following protocols previously established in clinical practice guidelines. Therefore, the implementation of simulation programs in neurocritical care improves the outcomes of patients at clinical centers because a properly trained professional will be able to provide the most effective care in the shortest time possible, safeguarding the patient’s life. Some learning and simulation models that can be included in medical education to improve neurocritical vascular care include task trainers, full-body mannequins, standardized patients, and computer-based simulation. Specifically, medical simulation in academic training programs in health sciences has a great impact on the development of specific skills, which could potentially reduce medical-legal and economic issues, improve care, and result in the management of clinical events. Simulation is established as an essential educational tool, allowing the instruction of knowledge from an interactive perspective and offering a broader vision when it comes to medical practice. The objective of this article is to present evidence related to the usefulness and impact of medical simulation in neurovascular critical care education.
