In Korean history when modernization begun has been questioned by many Korean scholars with their own different opinions. Both the realistic school and group that wanted to open the door of country to foreigners, who represented the intellectual elites at the society of the later Lee dynasty period, finally failed to accomplish an effort of modernization. After this failing arouse the Dong-Hak(東學) liberation movement the Korean lower class peasants led autonomically. In the Eastern Asia, at the time when westernization showed up came an decisive end of the Cho-Sun dynasty. Choi Suoun, a beginner of Dong-Hak(東學) ideology, proclaimed that every mankind must be equalized under the heaven. According to him, because every mankind lives with God, it must be honored like God. This is called Si Chun Ju(侍天主) ideology, which means that God lives in one s inside. It does not only involve Confucianism, Buddhism, Zen Buddhism and Christian humanism, but also overcome them all. Therefore, it must be regarded as the historical pioneer of modernization of the Cho-Sun dynasty. The egalitarianism which happened at the Dong-Hak(東學) peasants liberation movement had continually have influence on Korean independence movement against Japan imperialism, and after independence, it became a tremendous spark of 4.19 Korean students revolution movement for democracy against the Lee Seung Man dictatorship. It also was a basis of both the democratic human right movement under the Park Jung-Hee military regime and Kwang Ju civil disobedience movement against a newly emerging military dictatorship at 1980.

Here, we examined an anti-inflammatory function and a possible underlying mechanism of <I>S. acmella</I> Murray (SAM).</P> <P><B>Materials and method</B></P> <P>The methanol extract of SAM was fingerprinted by HPLC. C57BL/6 mice were administered with a single intratracheal (i.t.) LPS and 2 h later with a single i.t. SAM. The effect of SAM on lung inflammation was assessed by histology, semi-quantitative RT-PCR, and MPO assay of lung tissue. The effects of SAM on a pro-inflammatory factor NF-κB and an anti-inflammatory factor Nrf2 were analyzed by immunoblotting of nuclear proteins and by semi-quantitative RT-PCR analysis of mRNA of the genes governed by these transcription factors. V5-Nrf2 was precipitated by an anti-V5 antibody and the ubiquitinated V5-Nrf2 was revealed by immunoblotting of HA-tagged ubiquitin.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>The i.t. SAM robustly diminished a neutrophilic lung inflammation induced by i.t. LPS treatment of mice. In RAW 264.7 cells, SAM suppressed the nuclear localization of NF-κB and the expression of NF-κB-dependent cytokine genes. SAM increased the level of Nrf2 in the nucleus and the expression of Nrf2-dependent genes while suppressing ubiquitination of Nrf2.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>Our results suggest that SAM can suppress a neutrophilic inflammation in mouse lungs, which is associated with suppressed NF-κB and activated Nrf2. Our results provide experimental evidence supporting the anti-inflammatory function of <I>S. acmella</I>.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Symptomatic cerebral vasospasm (CVS) and delayed ischemic neurologic deficit (DIND) after unruptured aneurysm surgery are extremely rare. Its onset timing is variable, and its mechanisms are unclear. We report two cases of CVS with DIND after unruptured aneurysm surgery and review the literature regarding potential mechanisms. The first case is a 51-year-old woman with non-hemorrhagic vasospasm after unruptured left anterior communicating artery aneurysm surgery. She presented with delayed vasospasm on postoperative day 14. The second case is a 45-year-old woman who suffered from oculomotor nerve palsy caused by an unruptured posterior communicatig artery (PCoA) aneurysm. DIND with non-hemorrhagic vasospasm developed on postoperative day 12. To our knowledge, this is the first report of symptomatic CVS with oculomotor nerve palsy following unruptured PCoA aneurysm surgery. CVS with DIND after unruptured aneurysm surgery is very rare and can be triggered by multiple mechanisms, such as hemorrhage, mechanical stress to the arterial wall, or the trigemino-cerebrovascular system. For unruptured aneurysm surgery, although it is rare, careful observation and treatments can be needed for postoperative CVS with DIND.
