On the Laplace Transform and the Generalized Weyl Fractional Integral Operator Involving the H-function

        S. P. Goyal,R. Mukherjee,R. Jain 경북대학교 자연과학대학 수학과 2004 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.44 No.4

In the present paper, we establish a general theorem exhibiting a relationship existing between the Laplace transform and the generalized Weyl fractional integral operator (FIO) of related functions. This theorem is very general in nature and involves a multidimensional series with essentially arbitrary sequence of complex numbers. By suitably assigning different values to these sequences, one can easily evaluate the generalized Weyl fractional integral operator of special functions of several variables. References of known results which follow as special cases of our theorem are also cited. We have obtained here as applications of the theorem, the generalized Weyl fractional integral of(Srivastava-Daoust) generalized Lauricella function which gives a number of results involving special functions of one or more variables merely by specializing the parameters. The results recently obtained by R. Jain and M. A. Pathan and S. P. Goyal and Ritu Goyal, etc. follow as special cases of our main findings.

      • EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON FLUORESCENCE QUENCHING BY STEADY STATE AND TRANSIENT METHODS IN SOME ORGANIC LIQUID SCINTILLATORS

        Giraddi, T.P.,Kadadevarmath, J.S.,Chikkur, G.C.,Rath, M.C.,Mukherjee, T. Korean Society of Photoscience 1997 Journal of Photosciences Vol.4 No.3

The effect of temperature on the fluorescence quenching of 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-5-(1-naphthyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (MPNO1), 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-5-(2-naphthyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazote(MPNO2), by aniline, and 2-Phenylindole (2-PI) by CCk, in toluene by steady state method and in benzene by time-resolved method have been carried out in the temperature range 30 - 70$\circ$C. The Stem-Volmer (S-V) plots, I$_0$/I against quencher concentration [Q] at different temperanares show positive deviations. The fluorescence lifetimes determined at different temperatures show no systematic variations and the variations being within the experimental error, the average values of lifetimes $ $\tau$ (t) are taken for further calculations. Rate constants such as Stem-Volmer quenching constants K$_sv}$, quenching rate parameters k$_q$ and k'$_q$, static quenching constant V and kinetic distance r are determined using the modified Stem-Volmer equation and sphere of action static quenching model. In order to see whether the reactions are diffusion limited, equations k$_q$ = e$^{-Eq/RT}$ and k'$_q$ = e$^{-Eq/RT}$ are used to determine the values of E$_q$ and E'$_q$, the activation energies for collisional quenching and the values of E$_q$ are 14.53. 17.28 and 16.20 kJ mole$^{-1}$ for MPNO1, MPNO2 and 2-PI respectively and the values of E'$_q$ are 14.62 and 17.73 for MPNO1 and MPNO2 respectively. From the magnitudes of various quantities it has been concluded that the reactions are diffusion limited and the observed positive deviations in the S-V plot are due to static and dynamic quenching.

Phototrophic Bacteria as Fish Feed Supplement

        Banerjee, S.,Azad, S.A.,Vikineswary, S.,Selvaraj, O.S.,Mukherjee, T.K. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2000 Animal Bioscience Vol.13 No.7

Single cell of an indigenous phototrophic bacterium, Rhodovulum sulfidophilum, was incorporated in commercial fish feed for Oreochromis niloticus. The bacterial cell was analyzed for nutritional value and tested for toxicity and acceptability as an aquaculture feed supplement. The results showed higher survival rate and significantly higher growth rate (p<0.001) in O. niloticus fed with the bacteria incorporated fish feed. It is suggested that R sulfidophilum can be utilized as an aquaculture feed supplement.

An improved parametric formulation for the variationally correct distortion immune three-noded bar element

        Mukherjee, Somenath,Manju, S. Techno-Press 2011 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.38 No.3

A new method of formulation of a class of elements that are immune to mesh distortion effects is proposed here. The simple three-noded bar element with an offset of the internal node from the element center is employed here to demonstrate the method and the principles on which it is founded upon. Using the function space approach, the modified formulation is shown here to be superior to the conventional isoparametric version of the element since it satisfies the completeness requirement as the metric formulation, and yet it is in agreement with the best-fit paradigm in both the metric and the parametric domains. Furthermore, the element error is limited to only those that are permissible by the classical projection theorem of strains and stresses. Unlike its conventional counterpart, the modified element is thus not prone to any errors from mesh distortion. The element formulation is symmetric and thus satisfies the requirement of the conservative nature of problems associated with all self-adjoint differential operators. The present paper indicates that a proper mapping set for distortion immune elements constitutes geometric and displacement interpolations through parametric and metric shape functions respectively, with the metric components in the displacement/strain replaced by the equivalent geometric interpolation in parametric co-ordinates.

Function space formulation of the 3-noded distorted Timoshenko metric beam element

        S. Manju,Somenath Mukherjee 국제구조공학회 2019 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.69 No.6

The 3-noded metric Timoshenko beam element with an offset of the internal node from the element centre is used here to demonstrate the best-fit paradigm using function space formulation under locking and mesh distortion. The best-fit paradigm follows from the projection theorem describing finite element analysis which shows that the stresses computed by the displacement finite element procedure are the best approximation of the true stresses at an element level as well as global level. In this paper, closed form best-fit solutions are arrived for the 3-noded Timoshenko beam element through function space formulation by combining field consistency requirements and distortion effects for the element modelled in metric Cartesian coordinates. It is demonstrated through projection theorems how lock-free best-fit solutions are arrived even under mesh distortion by using a consistent definition for the shear strain field. It is shown how the field consistency enforced finite element solution differ from the best-fit solution by an extraneous response resulting from an additional spurious force vector. However, it can be observed that when the extraneous forces vanish fortuitously, the field consistent solution coincides with the best-fit strain solution.

Plants of the genus Hypericum (Family - Hypericaceae) are herbs, shrubs or small trees and are distributed chiefly in the temperate regions of the world. About 400 different species of Hypericum are available throughout the globe and 20 species occur in India, including a few cultivated in gardens. Almost all plants of the genus Hypericum are widely used in folk medicine. Several potent phytoconstituents from different Hypericum species have led to the isolation of antibacterial, antifungal and cytotoxic compounds. With the development of resistance and cross resistance with different microorganisms and the evolution of so many deadly diseases the screening and evaluation of the phytoconstituents so much so the development of varied phytoconstituents for the drug development for these deadly diseases is utmost essential in every aspects. The present review on the antimicrobial use of different Hypericum reports the findings from and extensive literature search on the Hypericum species around the globe that have been assessed for antimicrobial and antiviral activity. An attempt has been made through this review to summarize the information in this aspect in order to highlight the promising species of this genus which are worthy for further investigation as leads for drug development. Over 31 different Hypericum species have been reported to possess such activities with their varied number of phytoconstituents. Sixteen different constituents of six different classes of phytoconstituents have been reported to be present in different varieties of Hypericum, which may be considered responsible for this activity.
