Synthesis, antimycobacterial and anticancer activity of novel indole-based thiosemicarbazones

Based on the structural elements of bioactiveindole-based compounds, a series of novel 1-substitutedindole-3-carboxaldehyde thiosemicarbazones were synthesizedas potential antimycobacterial and anticancer agents. The derivatives were prepared via a two-step methodologyincluding N-alkylation(benzylation) of indole-3-carboxaldehydeand conversion of the intermediate aldehydes tocorresponding thiosemicarbazones. The derivatives wereevaluated for their antimycobacterial activity and compounds3d (R = propyl) and 3q (R = 4-nitrobenzyl) wereamong the most potent and selective derivatives with IC50values of 0.9 and 1.9 lg/mL respectively. The anticanceractivity of the derivatives was also assessed against a panelof tumor cell lines. Compounds 3t, 3u, 3v and 3w efficiently inhibited the majority of the cancer cell lineswith considerable selectivity.

In the present study, amoxicillin (AMX) solution was treated by the combination of sonocatalysis (ultrasound/MgO nanoparticles) with electrolysis (Pt anode/graphite cathode). The reaction rate of the combined process (5.29 × 10−2 min−1) was over two orders of magnitude higher than that of the sonocatalysis (2.45 × 10−2 min−1). AMX was decomposed synergistically by the hybrid process (synergy percent of about 16%). On the basis of the applied mathematical modeling, an AMX removal efficiency (%) of more than 93% was achieved at Na2SO4 concentration of 0.13 M, current intensity of 0.04 A, MgO nanoparticles dosage of 1.8 g/L and AMX concentration of 11 mg/L.

A series of 2-(arylmethylthio)-3-phenylquinazolin-4-one derivatives have been synthesized and theirantiplatelet aggregation activities were assessed againstADP and arachidonic acid-induced platelet aggregation inhuman plasma. Among the tested thioethers, derivative 2,3, 5 and 16 were the most potent compounds with satisfactoryIC50 for inhibition of platelet aggregation inducedby ADP. Analysis of global physicochemical parametersshows some correlations between activities and molecularvolume and also surface area of the studied derivatives.
An experimental and numerical investigation of energy absorption of sportswear in seam area

This study aims to investigate the energy absorption of seam areas in sportswear. Weft knitted fabrics with two structures of plain and rib were fabricated by polyester/Lycra and viscose/ Lycra yarns. Fabrics were stitched in two stitch classes. Moreover, two types of seams were considered. A pull-out test was carried out on all samples to determine the energy absorption values. Furthermore, a finite element model was applied to predict the energy absorption of each structure. The unit cell of each sample was created in ABAQUS software and the tensile load was applied to the stitch yarn. The unit cells of the fabric and the stitched section were modeled in the meso-scale and then elastic and viscoelastic properties of the yarns were assigned to the model. The energy absorption of the sample with rib pattern, lapped seam, and 607 stitch class was more than other samples. Also, the numerical and experimental results showed a high correlation with each other in samples with 304 stitch class and flat seam type.

Silver Sulfadiazine-loaded PVA/CMC Nanofibers for the Treatment of Wounds Caused by Excision

Polyvinyl alcohol/carboxymethylcellulose/silver sulfadiazine composite nanofibers (PVA/CMC/SSD) containingdifferent proportions of each ingredient were prepared by electrospinning and characterized by Fourier-transform infraredspectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), powder X-ray diffractionanalysis (XRD), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. The obtainednanofibers were uni-axially formed with randomly oriented longitudinal axes without entanglement, and their meandiameters ranged from 160 to 210 nm. Silver sulfadiazine, on the other hand, was appeared as a non-uniform dispersion ofspherical nanoparticles ranging from 35 to 75 nm over the surface of nanofibers. Efficacy of the silver sulfadiazine loadednanofibers for treatment of wounds caused be excision in rabbits in a period of 14 days was evaluated and it was found thatthe extent of skin repair in the applied dressing depends on the total Ag content. The dressing composed of 73.6:24.6:1.8weight percent of PVA/CMC/SSD provided the best result in comparison with a control dressing made form PVA/CMC(88.8:11.2 %). In vitro cell viability of fibers on HSF-PI 18 fibroblast like cells was assessed by MTT assay. Antibacterialactivity of the prepared nanofibers was also evaluated against gram-negative Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeroginosa,and gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus. PVA/CMC/SSD samples, was shown to have significant inhibition effect incomparison with drug references including penicillin G, chloramphenicol and erythromycin as positive controls (P<0.05).
