Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the analgesic effect of a single application of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on spontaneous pain and pain on chewing after placement of initial archwires. Methods: Forty-two patients (26 women, 16 men) were randomly recruited for this split-mouth randomized clinical trial. Each patient received super-elastic nickel-titanium (NiTi) initial archwires (0.012, 0.014, 0.016, and 0.018-inch [in]) in the maxilla for leveling and alignment for an interval of 4 weeks between archwires. One side of the mouth was randomly designated as experimental, while the other side served as placebo. After insertion of each archwire, the experimental side was irradiated with a diode laser for 3 seconds each on 5 points facially and palatally per tooth, from the central incisor to first molar. On the placebo side, the laser device was held the same way but without laser application. A numerical rating scale was used to assess the intensity of spontaneous and masticatory pain for the following 7 days. The Mann–Whitney U test was used to compare pain scores between sides. Results: Patients in the LLLT group exhibited significantly lower mean scores for spontaneous pain after insertion of the initial two archwires (0.012-in and 0.014-in NiTi; p < 0.05), while there was no significant difference for 0.016-in and 0.018-in wires between the LLLT and placebo groups. LLLT significantly reduced chewing pain scores (p < 0.05) for all archwires. Conclusions: A single dose of LLLT considerably lessened postoperative pain accompanying the placement of super-elastic NiTi wires for initial alignment and leveling.
Memristor Based Full Adder Circuit for Better Performance
Muhammad Khalid,Sana Mukhtar,Mohammad Jawaid Siddique,Sumair Faisal Ahmed 한국전기전자재료학회 2019 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.20 No.5
In this paper, we have designed memristor based AND, OR, and exclusive-OR (XOR) gates. With the help of these gates, memristor based full adder circuit has proposed. Simulation results of the proposed circuit including all above gates have been reported. Prominent improvement of the proposed circuit has been represented in power consumption 54.74%, delay 14.84%, and lesser transistor count with respect to conventional circuit.
The Mechanical Performance of Sugar Palm Fibres (Ijuk) Reinforced Phenolic Composites

Sugar palm fibres are one of the natural fibres which have many features and need further study to understand their properties. The aim of this work is to investigate the flexural, compressive and impact properties of sugar palm fibres reinforced phenolic composites. Sugar palm fibres were used as a filler (particle size 150 μm) and with loading of 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 vol.%. The fibres were treated by sea water and then fabricated into composites by hot press technique. Flexural, compressive, and impact tests were carried out as per ASTM D790, ASTM D695-08a, and ASTM D256 standards, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the morphology and the interfacial bonding of the fibres-matrix in composites. The results show that the mechanical properties of the composites improve with the incorporation of fibres. The composite of 30 vol.% particle loading exhibit optimum values which are 32.23 MPa, 61.66 MPa, and 4.12 kJ/m2 for flexural, compressive, and impact strength, respectively. This was because good compatibility of fibre-matrix bonding. Consequently, sugar palm fibre is one of the prospective fibres and could be used as a potential resource to reinforcement polymer composite.

In this study, the effects of hybrid magnesium hydroxide/montmorillonite (MH/MMT) on the flame retardancy, thermal, mechanical, morphological and thermo-mechanical properties of polyamide 6/polypropylene (PA6/PP) nanocomposites prepared by melt blending technique were investigated. The partial replacement of MH with MMT (2 and 4 wt%) was done at total filler content of 30 wt% and maleated polypropylene was used as compatibilizer. Mass loss calorimeter analysis revealed that the peak heat release rate and total heat evolved values reduced in the presence of MMT due to the formation of the protective surface and insulation layer by MMT within the MgO layer formed on the surface upon combustion. The char residue also strengthened by migration of MMT layers to the surface of char. The thermal stability and flame retardancy of PA6/PP/MH/MMT nanocomposites improved with increasing MMT content. The MMT layers were well dispersed in the nanocomposites. The stiffness and toughness of PA6/PP/MH nanocomposites increased while the strength maintained with incorporation of MMT. The degree of crystallinity of both PA6 and PP increased with the addition of MMT while the melting point remained unaltered. The synergistic combination of MH and MMT has indeed maintained the mechanical properties of nanocomposites while further improving the flame retardancy.
