The bark of Careya arborea Roxb. (Barringtoniacae) is used against various disorders in Indian systems of medicine, namely astringent, anthelmintic, in tumors, dyspepsia, colic, bronchitis, urinary discharges, piles, lecucoderma, skin diseases, epileptic fits, diarrhoea. The juice of the fresh bark with honey is given as a demulcent in coughs and colds, infusion of the fresh bark is used to treat snake bite by applying to the bitten part and also taken internally. The present communication deals with the detailed pharmacognostical evaluation of the bark sample using light and confocal microscopy, WHO recommended physico-chemical determinations and authentic phytochemical procedures. The physico-chemical, morphological and histological parameters presented in this paper may be proposed as parameters to establish the authenticity of C. arborea bark and may possibly help to differentiate the drug from its other allied species.

The unsteady mixed convection Casson type MHD nanofluid flow in the stagnation point with motile microorganism around a spinning sphere is investigated. Time dependent flow dynamics is considered. Similarity transformations have been employed to transfer the governing partial differential structure into ordinary differential structure. The impact of distinct parameters is examined via tables and graphs. The impact of rotational parameter (spin) on profiles of velocity profiles, temperature and concentration is revealed for unsteady mixed convection Casson type MHD nanofluid flow. It is observed that it is clear that rotational parameter has a great effect on non-dimensional primary velocity component but rotational parameter has a slight impact on non-dimensional secondary velocity component. The validity of the current investigation is authorized through comparing the existing outcomes with previous published literature.

Aldol condensation of 2-acetylthiophene, 2-acetylpyrrole and 2-acetylpyridine with different aromatic aldehydes were carried out in water in heterogeneous phases in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as cationic surfactant at room temperature. All the reactions occur in a short time with excellent yields of steroselective hetarylpropanones in water as environmental friendly solvent.
Bending analysis of functionally graded thick plates with in-plane stiffness variation

In the present paper, functionally graded (FG) materials are presented to investigate the bending analysis of simply supported plates. It is assumed that the material properties of the plate vary through their length according to the power-law form. The displacement field of the present model is selected based on quasi-3D hyperbolic shear deformation theory. By splitting the deflection into bending, shear and stretching parts, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the present formulation is reduced and hence makes them simple to use. Governing equations are derived from the principle of virtual displacements. Numerical results for deflections and stresses of powerly graded plates under simply supported boundary conditions are presented. The accuracy of the present formulation is demonstrated by comparing the computed results with those available in the literature. As conclusion, this theory is as accurate as other shear deformation theories and so it becomes more attractive due to smaller number of unknowns. Some numerical results are provided to examine the effects of the material gradation, shear deformation on the static behavior of FG plates with variation of material stiffness through their length.

SKP2/P27<sup>Kip1</sup> pathway is associated with Advanced Ovarian Cancer in Saudi Patients

Background: Ovarian cancer is the most common gynecological malignancy and constitutes the fifth leading cause of female cancer death. Some biological parameters have prognostic roles in patients with advanced ovarian cancer and their expression may contribute to tumor progression. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential prognostic value of SKP2, genes P27Kip1, K-ras, c-Myc, COX2 and HER2 genes expression in ovarian cancer. Materials and Methods: This study was performed on two hundred formalin fixed paraffin embedded ovarian cancer and normal adjacent tissues (NAT). Gene expression levels were assessed using real time PCR and Western blotting. Results: Elevated expression levels of SKP2, K-ras, c-Myc, HER2 and COX2 genes were observed in 61.5% (123/200), 92.5% (185/200), 74% (148/200), 96 % (192/200), 90% (180/200) and 78.5% (157/200) of cancer tissues, respectively. High expression of SKP2 and down-regulation of P27 was associated with advanced stages of cancer. Conclusions: The association between high expression of c-Myc and SKP2 with low expression of P27 suggested that the Skp2-P27 pathway may play an important role in ovarian carcinogenesis. Reduced expression of P27 is associated with advanced stage of cancer and can be used as a biological marker in clinical routine assessment and management of women with advanced ovarian cancer.
Effects of Photobiomodulation Therapy on Glycemic and Lipid Profiles In Vitro

Background and Objectives This study aimed at examining the effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) on glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, and low- and high-density lipoprotein (LDL and HDL, respectively) levels in vitro. Materials and Methods A total of 38 serum samples collected in plain (n=10) and heparinized tubes (n=28) were subjected to PBMT at 60 Joules (J)/cm2 for 2 min at 810 nm. The glucose and lipid profiles, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL of each sample was measured before and after PBMT. Results A statistically significant increase in glucose levels was observed in the PBMT-sera in 8 out of 10 samples in plain tubes. However, only two samples that were prepared in heparinized tubes showed an increase in glucose levels. The remaining heparinized samples that were exposed to PBMT presented lower glucose values. The treated sera exhibited a fluctuation in the lipid profiles after PBMT. However, high cholesterol levels were evident following PBMT. Similar trends with HDL and LDL in heparinized tubes were evident. Conclusion Together, the findings suggest that photobiomodulation exhibits an effect on glycemic and lipid profiles in vitro. Hence, the use of low-level laser therapy could have therapeutic potential. However, the differences between individual responses appear to indicate that the impact of PBMT may not always be beneficial.

<P>One in five of the world’s plant species is threatened with extinction according to the 2010 first global analysis of extinction risk. Tilman et al. predicted a massive ecological change to terrestrial plants within the next 50–100 y, accompanied by an increase in the number of global plant species facing extinction [Tilman D, et al. (2001) <I>Proc Natl Acad Sci USA</I> 98(10):5433–5440]. Most of the drug-producing plant families contain endangered species never previously studied for their utility to human health, which strongly validates the need to prioritize protection and assessment of these fragile and endangered groups [Zhu F, et al. (2011) <I>Proc Natl Acad Sci USA</I> 108(31):12943–12948]. With little prior attention given to endangered and rare plant species, this report provides strong justification for conservation of the rare plant <I>Diplostephium rhododendroides</I> Hieron., as well as other potential drug-producing endangered species in this and other groups.</P>

Health promoting cold pressed oils may improve human health and prevent certain diseases. It is hard to find any research concerning the composition and functional properties of cold pressed clove (Syzygium aromaticum) oil (CO). Cold pressed CO was evaluated for its lipid classes, fatty acid profiles, and tocol contents. In addition, antiradical and antimicrobial properties of CO were evaluated. The amounts of neutral lipids in CO was the highest (*94.7% of total lipids), followed by glycolipids and phospholipids. The main fatty acids in CO were linoleic and oleic, which comprise together *80% of total fatty acids. Stearic and palmitic acids were the main saturated fatty acids. a- and c-tocopherols and d-tocotrienol were the main detected tocols. CO had higher antiradical action against DPPH and galvinoxyl radicals than virgin olive oil. The results of antimicrobial properties revealed that CO inhibited the growth of all tested microorganisms. CO had a drastic effect on the biosynthesis of proteins and lipids in cells of Bacillus subtilis. In consideration of potential utilization, detailed knowledge on the composition and functional properties of CO is of major importance.
