        Multi-Epitope Fusion Protein Eg mefAg-1 as a Serodiagnostic Candidate for Cystic Echinococcosis in Sheep

        Cystic echinococcosis (CE) in sheep is a hazardous zoonotic parasitic disease that is caused by Echinococcus granulosus (Eg). At present, serological test is an important diagnostic method for Eg infection in domestic animals. Here, a fusion protein Eg mefAg-1 harboring 8 dominant B-cell epitopes of Eg such as antigen B, tetraspanin 1, tetraspanin 6, reticulon and Eg95 was produced in E. coli and evaluated for CE in sheep by indirect ELISA. Eg mefAg-1 showed in ELI- SA a high sensitivity (93.41%) and specificity (99.31%), with a coincidence rate of 97.02%. Overall, it is suggested that the Eg mefAg-1 could be a potential antigen candidate for CE serodiagnosis in sheep.

        Microwave synthesis of mesoporous WO_3 doping with bismuth and photocatalytic oxidation of water to H_2

        Mesostructured tungstic acid was prepared from Na_2WO_4 with protonated cation-exchange using a surfactant cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromine (CTAB) as the structure-directing agent under microwave radiation. The surfactant was removed by high-temperature calcination, microwave radiation extraction and Soxhlet extraction, respectively. The effects of these methods for removal of the surfactant were investigated in detail. XRD, TEM, FT-IR and UV-Vis were employed to characterize the mesostructured materials. The results showed that the microwave extraction and Soxhlet extraction were favorable to the synthesis of mesostructured tungstic oxide. Mesoporous structure was destroyed as the calcining temperature rising to 823 K. The mesoporous structure of WO_3 prepared by microwave radiation extraction had an average pore diameter of 3.4 nm and specific surface area of 120.46m^2·g^(−1). And also, the mesoporous materials WO_3 doping with Bi_2O_3 displayed much higher photocatalytic activity than commercial Degussa P25 TiO_2under visible light and UV irradiation.

        Fluidelastic instability of a tube array in two-phase cross-flow considering the effect of tube material

        Fluidelastic instability of a tube array is a key factor of the security of a nuclear power plant. An unsteady model of the fluidelastic instability of a tube array subjected to two-phase flow was developed to analyze the fluidelastic instability of tube bundles in two-phase flow. Based on this model, a computational program was written to calculate the eigenvalue and the critical velocity of the fluidelastic instability. The unsteady model and the program were verified by comparing with the experimental results reported previously. The influences of void fraction and the tube's material properties on the critical velocity were investigated. Numerical results showed that, with increasing the void fraction of the two-phase flow, the tube array becomes more stable. The results indicate that the critical velocities of the tube array made of stainless are much higher than those of the other two tube arrays within void fraction ranging from 20%to 80%.

        RDW-SD and PCT Are Potential Prognostic Factors for In-hospital Death in Patients With Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

        Purpose: Our study aimed to explore potential prognostic factors in Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) patients from easily accessible laboratory data and to investigate whether the combination of these indicators with a score for toxic epidermal necrolysis (SCORTEN) can improve the predictive value. Methods: Data from 85 SJS/TEN patients hospitalized from 2010 to 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. Univariate analysis was used to screen for laboratory indexes associated with death. Logistic regression was used to analyze significant risk factors for death. The differentiation and calibration of SCORTEN and modified score were assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test. Net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were used to evaluate the incremental prognostic value. Results: Among the 85 patients (37 males, 48 females) aged 14-88 years, the mortality rate was 11.8% (n = 10). SCORTEN had good discrimination and calibration to predict mortality in this cohort of patients (area under the ROC curve [AUC] of 0.874, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.758-0.990; Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test P = 0.994). Red cell distribution width-standard deviation index (RDW-SD) > 47.9 fL and procalcitonin (PCT) > 0.67 ng/mL were significant risk factors for death. When adding the 2 factors to SCORTEN, AUC was 0.915 (95% CI, 0.833–0.997), but not statistically different compared to SCORTEN alone (P = 0.091). The NRI was 1.2 (95% CI, 0.672–1.728; P < 0.001) and the IDI was 0.09 (95% CI, 0.011–0.173; P = 0.026), still suggesting that the modified score had better discriminatory and predictive power than SCORTEN alone. The modified score also showed good calibration (Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test, P = 0.915). Conclusions: SCORTEN is a good predictor of mortality in SJS/TEN patients in southwest China. Combining RDW-SD > 47.9 fL and PCT > 0.67 ng/mL with SCORTEN may enhance the ability to predict prognosis.

        Socially Aware Device-to-multi-device User Grouping for Popular Content Distribution

        The distribution of popular videos incurs a large amount of traffic at the base stations (BS) of networks. Device-to-multi-device (D2MD) communication has emerged an efficient radio access technology for offloading BS traffic in recent years. However, traditional studies have focused on synchronous user requests whereas asynchronous user requests are more common. Hence, offloading BS traffic in case of asynchronous user requests while considering their time-varying characteristics and the quality of experience (QoE) of video request users (VRUs) is a pressing problem. This paper uses social stability (SS) and video loading duration (VLD)-tolerant property to group VRUs and seed users (SUs) to offload BS traffic. We define the average amount of data transmission (AADT) to measure the network’s capacity for offloading BS traffic. Based on this, we formulate a time-varying bipartite graph matching optimization problem. We decouple the problem into two subproblems which can be solved separately in terms of time and space. Then, we propose the socially aware D2MD user selection (SA-D2MD-S) algorithm based on finite horizon optimal stopping theory, and propose the SA-D2MD user matching (SA-D2MD-M) algorithm to solve the two subproblems. The results of simulations show that our algorithms outperform prevalent algorithms.

      • Toward the Insights into Fast CO<sub>2</sub> Absorption over Novel Nanostructured MgO-Based Sorbent

        <P>A uniform nanoplate-like MgO-based sorbents were prepared with eitelite and hydromagnesite intergrowing each other, and their CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture capacity was evaluated for fast CO<SUB>2</SUB> absorption in the thermal swing absorption process, with model wet industrial flue gas at a CO<SUB>2</SUB> concentration of 14.5 vol %, at ambient pressure. Fast absorption and desorption rate, acceptable dynamic absorption capacity, and good cyclic stability (9 wt % after recycling 100 times) have been obtained. Some theoretical work has been carried out and found eitelite was the only origin of the active MgO species for fast CO<SUB>2</SUB> uptake in TSA process. Nitrate was also demonstrated to have some promotive effect in CO<SUB>2</SUB> fast absorption on the active MgO species. The effectiveness of eitelite was close related to its special crystal structure, i.e., after calcination, the special layer assembling with the proximity of Na<SUP>+</SUP> and O<SUP>2-</SUP> at a molecular level probably contributed to the fast absorption. Meanwhile, the void space caused by decarbonization of hydromagnesite may also facilitate the absorption and diffusion of CO<SUB>2</SUB>. Therefore, this sorbent has been demonstrated to be a potential absorbent for postcombustion CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture from fossil-fuel-fired power plant.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

        Inventory Models for Fresh Agriculture Products with Time-Varying Deterioration Rate

        This paper presents inventory models for fresh agriculture products with time-varying deterioration rate. Due to the particularity of fresh agriculture products, the demand rate is a function that depends on sale price and freshness. The deterioration rate increases with time and is assumed to be a time-varying function. In the models, the inventory cycle may be constant or variable. The optimal solutions of models are discussed for different freshness and the deterioration rate. The results of experiments show that the profit depends on the freshness and deterioration rate of products. With the increasing inventory cycle, the sale price and profit increase at first and then start decreasing. Furthermore, when the inventory cycle is variable, the total profit is a binary function of the sale price and inventory cycle. There exist unique sale price and inventory cycle such that the profit is optimal. The results also show that the optimal sale price and inventory cycle depend on the freshness and the deterioration rate of fresh agriculture products.

        Preparation of Structural Colors on White Polyester Fabrics without Adding Any Black Additive

        The colorful, unfading, and eco-friendly photonic crystal structural colors have attracted wide interest from textileresearchers. However, to minimize the interference of incoherently scattered light, the preparation of the structural colorfabric is still based on the black fabric, which seriously restricts the practical application of the structural colors in textiledyeing and finishing. This paper presented a straightforward strategy to construct structural colors on the fabrics byassembling polysulfide microspheres (PSMs) with self-absorbing light properties. The monodisperse PSMs weresuccessfully synthesized through a polycondensation process between Na2S2 and 1,2,3-trichloropropane, whose particle sizecan be controlled by adjusting the volume ratio of ethanol-water. Four different structural colors were successfully obtainedon white polyester fabric by varying the diameter of the PSMs arranged on the fabric surface in a face-centered cubicstructure. Notably, the designed structural color fabrics had a low angle dependence, which was more meaningful for thetextile color measuring and matching system.

        Identification and differential expression of microRNAs in Madin–Darby canine kidney cells with high and low tumorigenicities

        Background: Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells are widely used for vaccine production, however, the safety of MDCK cells needs to be considered seriously because of high tumorigenicity. Micro RNAs (miRNAs) that are involved in the tumorigenicity of MDCK cells have been never been reported. Objective: To reveal the role of miRNA in the tumorigenic phenotype of MDCK cell line. Methods: The miRNA expression profiles of two monoclonal MDCK cells (M09CL and M35CL) with low tumorigenicity and one MDCK cell line (M73P) with high tumorigenicity were characterized and investigated by using small RNA-seq technology. Results: A total of 5 known miRNAs and 5 novel miRNAs were highly expressed in M73P. In addition, 4 known miRNAs and 4 novel miRNAs were highly expressed in M09CL and M35CL. The target genes of the differentially expressed miRNAs were significantly enriched in several biological processes, and the majority of these genes were involved in pathways in cancer and the MAPK signaling pathway. Through interaction analysis, 4 up-regulated miRNAs (cfa-miR-452, cfa-miR-8826, cfa-miR-224, and cfa-miR-2387) and their crucial target genes related to the tumor regulation network were identified. Results indicated these 4 miRNAs might play crucial roles in the tumorigenesis of MDCK cells. Conclusion: Our findings, which were based on the functional prediction of miRNAs and target genes, suggested that miRNAs might influence the tumorigenicity of MDCK cells by regulating target genes. Moreover, the results provided important data for understanding the miRNA-mediated regulatory networks that control the tumorigenicities of MDCK cells.

        Capacitors Energy Strategy Based Cascaded H-Bridge Converter for DC Port Failures

        In this paper, a capacitors energy strategy based Cascaded H-bridge Converter (CHBC) for steady DC link voltage is proposed, which allow the CHBC to work while DC power fails. The topology of the CHBC is analyzed to construct the proposed strategy. The capacitors energy strategy is deduced based on the principle that the DC link voltage should be steady, the switch state should be smooth and the switch frequency should be normal. Experiments based on a three-module prototype, including static experiment, start experiment and step change experiment, proves the correctness of the strategy. They also verified the excellent fault tolerance ability and good dynamic performance of the proposed strategy.
