Improved optical and electrical properties of GaN-based micro light-emitting diode arrays

<P>Light output power and current density of GaN-based blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were improved by using a micro-LED (mu LED) array structure. The mu LED array has the advantage of uniform current spreading, leading to effective current injection into multiple quantum wells. Arrays of 4 x 4 and 12 x 15 mu LEDs with 130- and 30-mu m pixel sizes were fabricated and compared with a large-area LED. Considering the emission area, the enhancement rates of the output power were as high as 174% and 116% at 300 mA for the 12 x 15 and 4 x 4 mu LED arrays, respectively. For electrical properties, the current density of the 12 x 15 mu LED array was enhanced by a factor of 2.1 compared to that of the reference large-area LED. These results were attributed to improvement in uniform current spreading, which was confirmed by calculating the current spreading equation. In addition, we demonstrated that finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations can be conducted to theoretically confirm the light extraction effect of the mu LED structure. In addition, the FDTD results reveal that the extraction ratio was enhanced by reducing the effect of total internal reflection when the mLED was used. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

<P>Light extraction of microscale light-emitting diodes (μLEDs) is fundamentally limited by p-type metal electrodes for current injection due to the small pixel size of the LEDs. We propose Cr/Ni-doped silicon oxide (CN-SiO<SUB>X</SUB>) films as p-type contact electrodes for blue μLEDs to increase the light-output power under the same emitting areas. The conductivity of CN-SiO<SUB>X</SUB> electrode originates from the diffusion of top Cr/Ni atoms via electric-field-induced doping treatments, which allows for effective hole injection into the active layer. Consequently, we achieved a 62% improvement in the current density and a 47% increase in the light-output power compared to ITO-based μLEDs.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Prediction of Radioactive Inventory Using the DTC Method for Long-term Storage Spent Filters

Commercial operation of KORI Unit 1 ended in 2017, and the final decommissioning plan is currently under approval from the KINS. In order for the dismantling waste to go to the repository, it is judged that the radioactive waste generated during the commercial operation should be treated and disposed in advance. Among these radioactive wastes, spent filters contain various radionuclides. The radiation dose rate from the radiation coming out of the filters ranges from a low dose rate to high dose rate. Therefore, in order to handle the spent filters, a remote processing system is required to reduce the radiation exposure of workers. This paper evaluates the radioactive inventory of filters that are stored in the filter room at the KORI unit #1. For this purpose, a method for predicting the radioactivity of each nuclide in the filter, based on the radiation dose rate, has been described using the MicroShield code, which is a commercial shielding code. The information on the filters in the field has only the creation date, type, size, and surface dose rate. In order to evaluate the radioactivity inventory using such limited data, it is possible to know the nuclide radioactivity ratio in the filter. We took out some of the filters stored on site and measured from using the ISCOS system, a gamma nuclide analyzer. The radioactivity of each nuclide in the filter was inferred by modeling with the MicroShield code, based on the radiation dose rate and the radioactivity value of each nuclide measured in the field.

In this paper, we have explored techniques of wireless sensor networks data security for the corona discharge monitoring of electric facilities and implemented to select the most suitable things.

Therefore, we need suitable wireless sensor network topology for the electric power equipment surveillance system. We assume that bridge node has enough power resources. In this paper, we present wireless sensor network bridge node for fixed cluster heads environment.

Maintenance Access Hatches are used to ensure urban safety and aesthetics while facilitating the management of power lines, telecommunication lines, and gas pipes. Such facilities necessitate affordable and effective surveillance. In this paper, we propose a FiCHS (Fixed Cluster head centralized Hierarchical Static clustering) routing protocol that is suitable for underground maintenance hatches using WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) technology. FiCHS is compared with three other protocols, LEACH, LEACH-C, and a simplified LEACH, based on an ns-2 simulation. FiCHS was observed to exhibit the highest levels of power and data transfer efficiency

The application of PD Monitoring System in real space needed to considerate of noise reduction. but, A limit of the noise reduction exist in some filters. Therefore, TFMAP impelemented to reduce noise for classification of PD and noise. This paper showed noise reduction effect of TFMAP in experiment.

Recently, the designs based on SoC Platform is increasing in the field of multimedia and communications system design such as image and video, audio processing. The design costs and efforts of platform based design can be reduced by using a library of reusable components and pre-integrated subsystems. In this paper, we implemented real-time JPEG compression platform applied Hardware/Software Co-Design methodology. Our platform is devided into hardware component and software component to maximize performance and flexibility. The hardware component performs the baseline JPEG encoding. By software component, the encoded data is combined with JFIF file format header. We showed the experimental results compared with software JPEG encoder, and applied our platform to prototyping board.
