Calcium sensitization involved in dexmedetomidine-induced contraction of isolated rat aorta
Kim, Jae-Gak,Sung, Hui-Jin,Ok, Seong-Ho,Kwon, Seong-Chun,Cheon, Kwang Seong,Kim, Hye Jung,Chang, Ki Churl,Shin, Il-Woo,Lee, Heon-Keun,Chung, Young-Kyun,Sohn, Ju-Tae Canadian Science Publishing 2011 Canadian journal of physiology and pharmacology Vol.89 No.9
<P> Dexmedetomidine, a full agonist of the α2B-adrenoceptor that is mainly involved in vascular smooth muscle contraction, is primarily used for analgesia and sedation in intensive care units. High-dose dexmedetomidine produces hypertension in children and adults. The goal of this in vitro study was to investigate the role of the calcium (Ca2+) sensitization mechanism involving Rho-kinase, protein kinase C (PKC), and phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3-K) in mediating contraction of isolated rat aortic smooth muscle in response to dexmedetomidine. The effect of dexmedetomidine on the intracellular Ca2+ level ([Ca2+]i) and tension was measured simultaneously. Dexmedetomidine concentration-response curves were generated in the presence or absence of the following antagonists: rauwolscine, Y 27632, LY 294002, GF 109203X, and verapamil. Dexmedetomidine-induced phosphorylation of PKC and membrane translocation of Rho-kinase were detected with Western blotting. Rauwolscine, Y 27632, GF 109203X, LY 294002, and verapamil attenuated dexmedetomidine-induced contraction. The slope of the [Ca2+]i-tension curve for dexmedetomidine was higher than that for KCl. Dexmedetomidine induced phosphorylation of PKC and membrane translocation of Rho-kinase. These results suggest that dexmedetomidine-induced contraction involves a Ca2+ sensitization mechanism mediated by Rho-kinase, PKC, and PI3-K that is secondary to α2-adrenoceptor stimulation in rat aortic smooth muscle. </P>

<P>Well-ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays were fabricated by the potentiostatic anodic oxidation method using pure Ti foil as a working electrode and ethylene glycol solution as an electrolyte with the small addition of NH4F and H2O. The influence of anodization temperature and time on the morphology and formation of TiO2 nanotube arrays was examined. The TiO2 nanotube arrays were applied as a photoelectrode to dye-sensitized solar cells. Regardless of anodizing temperature and time, the average diameter and wall thickness of TiO2 nanotube arrays show a similar value, whereas the length increases with decreasing reaction temperature. The conversion efficiency is very low, which is due to a morphology breaking of the TiO2 nanotube arrays in the manufacturing process of a photoelectrode.</P>

<P>A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, non-spore-forming and short rod- or rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated 22-5(T), was isolated from a bluespotted cornetfish, Fistularia commersonii, and subjected to taxonomic study. Strain 22-5(T) grew optimally at 30 C and in the presence of 2-5?% (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain 22-5(T) belonged to the genus Paracoccus and joined the cluster comprising Paracoccus homiensis DD-R11(T) and Paracoccus zeaxanthinifaciens ATCC 21588(T), with which strain 22-5(T) exhibited 97.4 and 96.9?% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, respectively. Strain 22-5(T) exhibited 94.0-96.6?% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with the other type strains of species of the genus Paracoccus. Strain 22-5(T) contained Q-10 as the predominant menaquinone and C(18?:?1)ω7c as the predominant fatty acid. In this study, P. zeaxanthinifaciens KCTC 22688(T) also contained Q-10 as the predominant isoprenoid quinone. The DNA G+C content of strain 22-5(T) was 63.6 mol%. Strain 22-5(T) exhibited 44 and 32?% DNA-DNA relatedness to P. homiensis KACC 11518(T) and P. zeaxanthinifaciens KCTC 22688(T), respectively. On the basis of phenotypic, phylogenetic and genetic data, strain 22-5(T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Paracoccus, for which the name Paracoccus fistulariae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 22-5(T) (=KCTC 22803(T) =CCUG 58401(T)).</P>
Mast cells decrease renal fibrosis in unilateral ureteral obstruction
Kim, Duk Hoon,Moon, Sang-Ok,Jung, Yu Jin,Lee, Ae Sin,Kang, Kyung Pyo,Lee, Tae Hwan,Lee, Sik,Chai, Ok Hee,Song, Chang Ho,Jang, Kyu Yun,Sung, Mi Jeong,Zhang, Xin,Park, Sung Kwang,Kim, Won International Society of Nephrology 2009 Kidney international Vol.75 No.10
Mast cells regulate both inflammatory responses and tissue repair in human diseases but there are conflicting reports on the role of these cells in the pathogenesis of various kidney diseases. Here we measured mast cell function in unilateral ureteral obstruction, a well-characterized model of renal fibrosis, using KitW/KitW−v mice genetically deficient in mast cells, wild-type mice, and deficient mice reconstituted by adoptive transfer with mast cells from the wild-type animals. Mast cell-deficient mice had higher levels of renal tubular damage, more stromal fibrosis, higher numbers of infiltrating ERHR3-positive macrophages and CD3-positive T cells, and higher tissue levels of profibrotic transforming growth factor-β1 than wild-type mice or mice reconstituted by adoptive transfer of mast cells 3 weeks after ureteral obstruction. Similarly, while wild-type and adoptively transferred mice had increased α-smooth muscle actin and decreased E-cadherin expression, which are indicators of epithelial-mesenchymal transition, the obstructed kidneys of the mast cell–deficient mice had significant attenuation of those indicators. Thus, our study suggests that mast cells protect the kidney against fibrosis by modulation of inflammatory cell infiltration and by transforming growth factor-β1-driven epithelial-to-mesenchymal transitions.Kidney International (2009) 75, 1031–1038; doi:10.1038/ki.2009.1; published online 25 February 2009

As veterinary medicine industry has grown up steadily, the government quality control of veterinary medicine in market has been performed since 1964. The result of post-market surveillance assay from 2009 to 2012 was analyzed in this study. The average violation rate of all veterinary medicines, was 3.2%, 2.8%, 2.8% and 1.4% in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, respectively. The total average violation rate in the category of antibiotics, other drugs except antibiotics, biologics were 1.2%, 4.4% and 0.8%, respectively. The violations due to insufficiency of major active ingredient content occupied 76.7% among the total violations. The most frequent violated in antibiotics were ampicillin and tylosin, followed by sulfonamides, penicillins etc. In case of other drugs except antibiotics, vitamin A and glucocorticoids (dexamethasone and prednisolone) were violated frequently. The overall trend of violation rates gradually decreased from 2009 to 2012, suggesting that quality of veterinary medicines has improved according to Korea Veterinary Good Manufacturing Practice (KVGMP) system settled down in 1988.
The Native Korean Intellectual Framework of National Culture in the Japanese Colonial Period
( Kim Kwang Ok ) 서울대학교 사회과학대학 인류학과 2017 Korean Anthropology Review Vol.1 No.1
(In lieu of an abstract) The cultural identity of the “nation” (minjok; 民族) has been constantly investigated not only by the so-called cultural nationalists but also by proponents of development theory and modernization theory. That is, questions about the characteristics of national culture, how those attributes contribute to modernization and which have a hindering effect have been followed by disputes about the very essence of Korean culture. Questions about this essence and its characteristics have resulted in debates regarding the proper interpretive framework for understanding Korean culture. This is a debate over what should be the primary content of culture theory and corresponding interpretive perspectives.
