Vol.39 No.2

This study aims to utilize keyword network analysis to identify the news article keywords related to female sports players and confirm changes in issues through them. To this study, 2,550 news reports were collected from 2001 to 2021. Keyword network analysis was carried out after dividing four sections: section 1 (2001-2005), section 2 (2006-2010), section 3 (2011-2015), and section 4 (2016-2021). Data processing utilized Ms-Excel and Netminer 4.2 programs to analyze the frequency of keyword and degree centrality. The study results are as follows. Essential keywords related to female sports players include ‘female', ‘female sports players', ‘Yuna Kim', ‘Maria Sharapova', and ‘playful sister'. The change in news issues for female sports players analyzed from a time-series perspective showed no change in content other than the increase in the news. Identical results within keyword network analysis are as follows. First, many news reports on female sports players ‘Michelle Wie West’, ‘Annika Sorenstam’, ‘Serena Williams’ and ‘Yuna Kim’ their annual salary, selection of influential players, and awards are reported. Second, articles on star quality such as ‘Fashion', ‘Dress', ‘Talent', ‘Advertising' or entertainment programs featuring female sports players, such as ‘playful sister', ‘Entertainment', ‘Pak Se-ri', ‘Han Yumi' and ‘playful bro' are reported. This study confirmed that the keywords of articles related to female sports players are limited to sports stars and popularity rather than match results.

      • Species Specific Antiviral Activity of Porcine Interferon-α8 (IFNα8)

        Kim, Eunhye,Jhun, Hyunjhung,Kim, Joohee,Park, Unjoo,Jo, Seunghyun,Kwak, Areum,Kim, Sinae,Nguyen, Tam T.,Kang, Yongsun,Choi, Insoo,Lee, Joongbok,Kim, Heijun,Kim, Younghyun,Lee, Siyoung,Kim, Soohyun 한국조명·전기설비학회 2017 한국조명·전기설비학회 학술대회논문집 Vol. No.

<P>Interferons (IFNs) have been known as antiviral genes and they are classified by type 1, type 2, and type 3 IFN. The type 1 IFN consists of IFNα, IFNβ, IFNτ, and IFNω whereas the type 2 IFN consists of only IFNγ, which is a key cytokine driving T helper cell type 1 immunity. IFNλ belongs to the type 3 IFN, which is also known as IL-28 and IL-29 possessing antiviral activities. Type 1 IFN is produced by viral infection whereas type 2 IFN is induced by mitogenic or antigenic T-cell stimuli. The IFNτ of bovine was first discovered in an ungulate ruminant recognition hormone. IFNτ belongs to the type 1 IFN with the common feature of type 1 IFN such as antiviral activity. IFNs have been mostly studied for basic research and clinical usages therefore there was no effort to investigate IFNs in industrial animals. Here we cloned porcine IFNα8 from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of Korean domestic pig (<I>Sus scrofa domestica</I>). The newly cloned IFNα8 amino acid sequence from Korean domestic pig shares 98.4% identity with the known porcine IFNα8 in databank. The recombinant porcine IFNα8 showed potent antiviral activity and protected bovine Madin-Darby bovine kidney epithelial (MDBK) cells from the cytopathic effect of vesicular stomatitis virus, but it failed to protect human Wistar Institute Susan Hayflick (WISH) cells and canine Madin-Darby canine kidney epithelial-like (MDCK) cells. The present study demonstrates species specific antiviral activity of porcine IFNα8.</P>

      • Dendritic Cell Dysfunction in Patients with End-stage Renal Disease

        Kim, Ji Ung,Kim, Miyeon,Kim, Sinae,Nguyen, Tam Thanh,Kim, Eunhye,Lee, Siyoung,Kim, Soohyun,Kim, Hyunwoo 한국조명·전기설비학회 2017 한국조명·전기설비학회 학술대회논문집 Vol. No.

<P>End-stage renal disease (ESRD) with immune disorder involves complex interactions between the innate and adaptive immune responses. ESRD is associated with various alterations in immune function such as a reduction in polymorphonuclear leukocyte bactericidal activity, a suppression of lymphocyte proliferative response to stimuli, and a malfunction of cell-mediated immunity at the molecular level. ESRD also increases patients' propensity for infections and malignancies as well as causing a diminished response to vaccination. Several factors influence the immunodeficiency in patients with ESRD, including uremic toxins, malnutrition, chronic inflammation, and the therapeutic dialysis modality. The alteration of T-cell function in ESRD has been considered to be a major factor underlying the impaired adaptive cellular immunity in these patients. However, cumulative evidence has suggested that the immune defect in ESRD can be caused by an Ag-presenting dendritic cell (DC) dysfunction in addition to a T-cell defect. It has been reported that ESRD has a deleterious effect on DCs both in terms of their number and function, although the precise mechanism by which DC function becomes altered in these patients is unclear. In this review, we discuss the effects of ESRD on the number and function of DCs and propose a possible molecular mechanism for DC dysfunction. We also address therapeutic approaches to improve immune function by optimally activating DCs in patients with ESRD.</P>

Detector performance and defect densities in CdZnTe after two-step annealing

Kim, Eunhye,Kim, Yonghoon,Bolotnikov, A.E.,James, R.B.,Kim, Kihyun Elsevier BV * North-Holland 2019 Nuclear Instruments & Methods in Physics Research. Vol. No.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Defects both microscale and nanoscale are play an important role in CdZnTe (CZT) device performance. Typical micro-scale defects such as Te inclusions were removed via a two-step annealing process, and their concentration was analyzed via IR transmission microscopy. In addition, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurement was employed to investigate the evolution of nano-scale defects after the annealing process. Dislocation and stacking faults were commonly observed defects in as-grown and annealed CZT. The line shape defects, which are possibly related to the stress field around dislocations, disappeared during the in-situ the annealing at 200–220 ° C. A Frisch-grid CZT detector made via the two-step annealing process exhibited improved energy resolution and low backscattering counts in Cs-137 gamma spectra.</P>

        Strong Witches and Tragic Chorus

        Eunhye Kim(김은혜) 한국셰익스피어학회 2018 셰익스피어 비평 Vol.54 No.4

Shakespeare shows different types and individual characters of women who make his historical plays more affluent and multi-layered beyond male-dominated boundary. Moreover, he presents various identities of characters, testing the limits of their desire of foreigners, usurpers, outcasts, outlaws, shrews, witches, rebellions, and cross-dressers. In this context, I think he is a experimentalist of all human beings and close to a postmodernist who has a deep insight into taking a position of relativism, ahead of his time, with keen humanistic point of view. Shakespeare tried to show subjective and unique women in history plays even if they are still within the male-dominated historical world. In the aspect of visual performance, strong women like Joan and Elinor in Henry VI show occult ceremony, forming a unique female world which looks rather emotional and psychological but definitely different from men’s one. Moreover, there are other types of women who have a desire to overthrow and take the men’s place but fail to do it. They are also strong-spirit women and energetic but eventually compromise with men’s world like the Countess of Auvergne. The other types of women like Ann and Elizabeth in Richard III are sorrowful tragic chorus who lost everything, fooled around by Richard’s vicious plan. Even though these women all go through the tragic ups and downs with great pain, they show their own unique identities and strong desire for surviving. Some of them are even meta-gendered and replace the men’s position and this is, I think, the very postmodernistic gender free idea of Shakespeare. In this paper, I examined the all types of women in the Henry VI Trilogy and Richard III because these plays show more various women than other historical plays of Shakespeare.

      • Regional contributions to particulate matter concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area, South Korea: seasonal variation and sensitivity to meteorology and emissions inventory

        Kim, Hyun Cheol,Kim, Eunhye,Bae, Changhan,Cho, Jeong Hoon,Kim, Byeong-Uk,Kim, Soontae Copernicus GmbH 2017 Atmospheric chemistry and physics Vol.17 No.17

<P>Abstract. The impact of regional emissions (e.g., domestic and international) on surface particulate matter (PM) concentrations in the Seoul metropolitan area (SMA), South Korea, and its sensitivities to meteorology and emissions inventories are quantitatively estimated for 2014 using regional air quality modeling systems. Located on the downwind side of strong sources of anthropogenic emissions, South Korea bears the full impact of the regional transport of pollutants and their precursors. However, the impact of foreign emissions sources has not yet been fully documented. We utilized two regional air quality simulation systems: (1) a Weather Research and Forecasting and Community Multi-Scale Air Quality (CMAQ) system and (2) a United Kingdom Met Office Unified Model and CMAQ system. The following combinations of emissions inventories are used: the Intercontinental Chemical Transport Experiment-Phase B, the Inter-comparison Study for Asia 2010, and the National Institute of Environment Research Clean Air Policy Support System. Partial contributions of domestic and foreign emissions are estimated using a brute force approach, adjusting South Korean emissions to 50 %. Results show that foreign emissions contributed ∼ 60 % of SMA surface PM concentration in 2014. Estimated contributions display clear seasonal variation, with foreign emissions having a higher impact during the cold season (fall to spring), reaching ∼ 70 % in March, and making lower contributions in the summer, ∼ 45 % in September. We also found that simulated surface PM concentration is sensitive to meteorology, but estimated contributions are mostly consistent. Regional contributions are also found to be sensitive to the choice of emissions inventories. </P>

4-Aminophenyl acetamides and propanamides as potent transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) ligands

        Kim, Changhoon,Ann, Jihyae,Lee, Sunho,Kim, Eunhye,Choi, Sun,Blumberg, Peter M.,Frank-Foltyn, Robert,Bahrenberg, Gregor,Stockhausen, Hannelore,Christoph, Thomas,Lee, Jeewoo Elsevier 2018 Bioorganic & medicinal chemistry Vol.26 No.15

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A series of 2-(3,5-substituted 4-aminophenyl)acetamide and propanamide derivatives were investigated as human TRPV1 antagonists. The analysis of the structure-activity relationship indicated that 2-(3,5-dihalo 4-aminophenyl)acetamide analogues displayed excellent antagonism of <I>h</I>TRPV1 activation by capsaicin and showed improved potency compared to the corresponding propanamides. The most potent antagonist (<B>36</B>) exhibited potent and selective antagonism for <I>h</I>TRPV1 not only to capsaicin but also to NADA and elevated temperature; however, it only displayed weak antagonism to low pH. Further studies indicated that oral administration of antagonist <B>36</B> blocked the hypothermic effect of capsaicin <I>in vivo</I> but demonstrated hyperthermia at that dose. A docking study of <B>36</B> was performed in our established <I>h</I>TRPV1 homology model to understand its binding interactions with the receptor and to compare with that of previous antagonist <B>1</B>.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
