Numerical analysis of center cracked orthotropic fgm plate: Crack and material axes differ by θo

Mete Onur Kaman,Fatih Cetisli 국제구조공학회 2012 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.13 No.2

In this study, fracture analysis of orthotropic FGM (Functionally Graded Material) plate having center crack is performed, numerically. Material axis arbitrarily oriented and there is an angle θo between material and crack axes. Stress intensity factors at the crack tips for Mode I are calculated using Displacement Correlation Method (DCM). In numerical analysis, effects of material properties and variation of angle θo between material and crack axes on the fracture behavior are investigated for four different boundary conditions. Consequently, it is found that the effect of θo on stress intensity factor depends on variation of material properties.

Post-buckling behavior of carbon fiber epoxy composite plates

Serkan Erdem,Mete Onur Kaman,Mustafa Gur 대한기계학회 2019 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.33 No.4

In this study, the pre-buckling and post-buckling behaviors of layered composite plates which were made of woven carbon fiber fabric with a circular hole in the middle were investigated experimentally and numerically. Firstly, load-displacement graphs of composite plates with different hole diameters were experimentally obtained under compressive load. Then the numerical load-displacement graphs of the plates were found with the ANSYS package program which used the finite element method. As a result, after linear buckling experimental and numerical results were found to be compatible with each other. In addition, damage behavior of plates after buckling with the aid of Tsai-Wu damage criterion was obtained similar to experimental results. The increase in hole diameter did not change the loaddisplacement behavior characteristics of the plates after buckling. However, it has reduced maximum damage load and maximum failure displacement. The stress at the perimeter of the hole increased significantly with the increase of the vertical displacement with immediately after the buckling but later was not significantly affected by this increase.

Biliary cystadenoma in an endemic zone of hydatid cyst: A rare surgical surprise

        Krishna Ramavath,Lileswar Kaman,Ashish Gupta,Abhinav Singh,Asim Das 한국간담췌외과학회 2020 Annals of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery Vol.24 No.1

The advancement of radiological investigations has led to the early and incidental detection of hepatic cystic lesions. These are most commonly the simple cysts but can be malignant as well. Despite the recent advances, these lesions still pose a diagnostic as well as therapeutic challenge. The biliary cystadenomas and carcinomas form around 5% of all the malignant cystic lesions of liver. These lesions are hardly diagnosed preoperatively and are usually a histopathological surprise. They warrant a surgical excision. Herewith, the authors are describing a case of cystic hepatic neoplasm initially misdiagnosed as hydatid cyst of liver and discovered to be a vascular cystic lesion intraoperatively. This patient underwent resection of the lesion and was discovered to harbour biliary cystadenoma on histopathological specimen.

Numerical analysis of interface crack problem in composite plates jointed with composite patch

Fatih Cetisli,Mete O. Kaman 국제구조공학회 2014 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.16 No.2

Stress intensity factors are numerically investigated for interfacial edge crack between two dissimilar composite plates jointed with single side composite patch. Variation of stress intensity factor under Mode I loading condition is examined for different material models and fiber orientation angles of composite plates and patch. ANSYS 12.1 finite element analysis software is used to obtain displacements of crack surfaces in the numerical solution and repaired plates are modeled in three dimensions. Obtained results are presented in the form of graphs. It is found that fiber orientation angle of composites is an effective parameter on interfacial stress intensity factor.

      • Templated diamond growth on porous carbon foam decorated with polyvinyl alcohol-nanodiamond composite

        Varga, M.,Stehlik, S.,Kaman, O.,Izak, T.,Domonkos, M.,Lee, D.S.,Kromka, A. Elsevier 2017 Carbon Vol.119 No.-

<P>Porous and self-standing structures are highly promising as membranes, electrodes, high sensitivity gas sensors, and supercapacitors due to their high surface area and tuneable surface properties. Composition of such materials with a polycrystalline diamond film may provide new functionalities for biological and electrochemical applications. However, the diamond growth on foreign substrates as a pinhole-free continuous thin film is still a not a trivial task. Here, we present a successful templated deposition process of polycrystalline diamond film on reticulated vitreous carbon foam (C-foam). Samples of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer-nanodiamond (ND) mixtures with various ND concentrations were prepared and characterized by means of optical spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential and pH measurements. The ND/PVA mixtures are employed for the preparation of diamond film by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition process, and the effect of their composition (NDs/PVA ratio) on the nucleation (seed density, clustering) and diamond growth (substrate etching, polymer transformation) is analysed. The nucleation, early-stage of diamond growth and the resulting diamond-coated C-foams are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The obtained results underline the importance to tailor the NDs/PVA ratio for a well-defined three-dimensional C-foam coverage with the continuous diamond film. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. Effect of fiber orientation on interfacial fracture toughness for adhesively bonded composite plates

Ilkay Ertugrul Bican,Mete Onur Kaman,Serkan Erdem 대한기계학회 2020 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.2

In this study, interfacial fracture toughness was investigated experimentally and numerically in laminated composite plates with different fiber reinforcement angles bonded with adhesive. The composite plates are four-layered and the layer sequence is [0º/θ] s . DCB test was applied to composite plates reinforced with epoxy resin matrix and unidirectional carbon fiber. The experimental sample model for the DCB test was made using the ANSYS finite element package program. In the numerical study, four layered composites were prepared in three dimensions. Under critical displacement value; mode I fracture toughness at the crack tip was calculated using VCC (virtual crack closure) technique. Numerical values consistent with experimental results have presented in graphical forms. At 60 o and 75 o the greatest fracture toughness was obtained. In addition, numerical results have shown that fiber orientation prevents the uniform distribution of stress on the interface crack tip and causes stress accumulation, especially at the edge of the plate.

18F-FDG PET/CT detects Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Masquerading as Primary Breast Malignancy

        Ashwin Singh Parihar,Bhagwant Rai Mittal,Shelvin Kumar Vadi,Rajender Kumar,Kaniyappan Nambiyar,Bishan Radotra,Lileswar Kaman 대한핵의학회 2018 핵의학 분자영상 Vol.52 No.6

We present the case of a 36-year-old woman who underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT with suspicion of a primary breast malignancy. However, PET/CT detected an occult renal cell carcinoma with metastases to the thyroid, breast, lungs and lymph nodes. Thyroidand breast metastases are atypical metastatic sites of renal cell carcinoma. Breast metastases from extra mammary tissue areextremely rare, more so from renal cell carcinoma. Histopathologic confirmation of the breast lesions is imperative to avoidunnecessary mastectomy and imaging can help in raising the suspicion of metastatic involvement versus primary breastmalignancy.
