The dielectric behavior of stearic acid in 1,4-dioxane medium at various temperature 303 K–288 K and frequency regime (10 MHz–30 GHz) determined from the complex dielectric permittivity spectra obtained by Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR). In this frequency range, the dielectric study gives the electrostatic interaction as well as orientational polarizability of complex mixtures of long chain molecules significantly. Dielectric parameters were calculated from the complex spectra of the binary mixture by non linear least square fit method. The excess permittivity (εE), correlation factors were calculated for the binary system. Thermal parameters(ΔH-enthalpy, ΔS-entropy and ΔG-Gibbs free energy) were calculated and the direction of reaction is determined. The FTIR spectrum of the binary system recorded and the assignments are discussed. The FTIR spectral assignments confirm the molecular interactions.

The reinforcing impact of TiB2 nanoparticles (TiB2np) and alumina nanoparticles (Al2O3np) in an aluminum (LM14) alloybase matrix composite was studied. Stir casting was used to create the hybrid aluminum matrix-based nanocomposites(AMNC) specimens. When nanoparticles are mixed into a matrix, the resulting material is stronger than LM14 aluminumalloy. The results of the EDAX and SEM studies clearly illustrate the distribution of reinforcing particle sizes. Compressionand density tests on AMNC specimens are contrasted with those on LM14 aluminum alloy tests. The increase in theirmechanical characteristics is influenced by the proportion of reinforcements in the matrix phase. Nanocomposites based onan aluminum matrix outperform the metal in terms of compressive strength, density, and abrasion resistance.

Metal-based composites, such as those used in the aerospace and automotive industries, are becoming increasingly popular dueto their intrinsic advantages like higher strength-to-weight ratios and less wear rates. An aluminium 7475 alloy based on MMCwas tested using the Taguchi design of the experiment. The major goal is to use the Taguchi method to anticipate the bestparameters for castings with the highest tensile strength and hardness. Good quality castings can only be made with precisecontrol of the process parameters. Stir casting was employed to make test samples with varying reinforcement weightpercentages, stirring speeds, and processing temperatures. Analytical variance and orthogonal arrays were used to explore theinfluence of process factors on the desired attributes. The Taguchi method was used to identify the best settings for maximizingthe mechanical characteristics of composites. The fundamental objective of this investigation is to find how various parameterscan be altered to produce defect-free castings with the necessary tensile strength and hardness for certain applications. TheTaguchi optimization method was demonstrated by conducting a test at the optimal level of processing parameters.

Background: The present study was undertaken to evaluate the incidence of chronic persistent post-surgical pain (CPPP) and the role of signal transduction genes in patients undergoing staging laparotomy for carcinoma ovary. Methods: The present observational study was undertaken following institutional ethical committee approval and informed consent from all the participants. A total 21 patients of ASA grade I to III with age 20-70 years, scheduled for elective staging laparotomy for carcinoma ovary were included. Patients were excluded if had other causes of pain, cognitive dysfunction or chronic neurological disorders. Statistical analysis of pool data was done using SPSS version-17. For various scales like GPE, PDQ, NPSI, the visual analogue scale (VAS), global perceived effect (GPE), the pain DETECT questionnaire (PDQ), and neuropathic pain symptoms inventory (NPSI), one factor repaeted measure ANOVA applied with simple contrast with baseline as on post-operative day 1 (considered as reference and compared with subsequent time-interval), and the P values were adjusted according to “Bonferroni adjustments”. In patients with CPPP, the Δct values of mRNA expressions of genes at the end of postoperative day 90 were compared with the baseline control values by one factor repeated ANOVA. P value < 0.005 significant. Results: The present study demonstrates 38.1% (8 out of 21 patients) incidence of CPPP. The functional status and quality of life as were observed to be significantly diminished in all patients with chronic pain. An up-regulation in the mRNA expression of signal transduction and a positive correlation was noted between the mRNA expression of signal transduction genes and VAS score in all patients with CPPP at the end of postoperative day 90. Conclusions: The reported incidence of CPPP in patients with carcinoma ovary was 38.1%. An up-regulation and positive correlation between mRNA expression of signal transduction genes and VAS score depicts its potential role in the pathogenesis of CPPP. (Korean J Pain 2016; 29: 239-48)
