        In this study, I have attempted to present the teaching method of Chinese Language in the everyday environment, that would enable Korean university students to loam Chinese in a simple, direct, and accurate manner within the shortest possible time. The Korean people live in a culture greatly influenced by Chinese culture and Chinese language throughout its history and accordingly, they can team Chinese language much easier than those living in other parts of the world. Particularly, their ability to read Chinese is exceptionally good. Despite the fact that most Chinese words used in two countries are the same, some words are used differently creating confusion between the two. Accordingly, for the best results, the Chinese Language should be taught with the following points in mind. First, special emphasis should be given to Chinese characters that are used differently in each country even though they are written the same way. Therefore, comparative teaching is recommended Secondly, Chinese characters that have the same meanings but pronounced differently between the two should be taught in a comparative manner as well. Thirdly, those learning Chinese language should also team about Chinese culture for a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding. Lastly, many new words created everyday as China goes through a drastic social change after the opening of the country must be taught in the actually applied situations so that the students loaming these words can understand the changing Chinese society better. The teachers of Chinese Language should consider the above points or more effective teaching. It will also give students a better understanding of Chinese society and culture.

        Joint Lattice-Reduction-Aided Precoder Design for Multiuser MIMO Relay System

        Lattice reduction (LR) has been used widely in conventional multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems to enhance the performance. However, LR is hard to be applied to the relay systems which are important but more complicated in the wireless communication theory. This paper introduces a new viewpoint for utilizing LR in multiuser MIMO relay systems. The vector precoding (VP) is designed along with zero force (ZF) criterion and minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion and enhanced by LR algorithm. This implementable precoder design combines nonlinear processing at the base station (BS) and linear processing at the relay. This precoder is capable of avoiding multiuser interference (MUI) at the mobile stations (MSs) and achieving excellent performance. Moreover, it is shown that the amount of feedback information is much less than that of the singular value decomposition (SVD) design. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme using the complex version of the Lenstra--Lenstra--Lovasz (LLL) algorithm significantly improves system performance.

        Antimalarial Effects of Areca catechu L.

        The emergence and spread of drug-resistant malaria parasites is a serious public health problem in the tropical world. Useful antimalarial drugs such as chloroquine have resistance in the world now. Moreover, other antimalarialdrugs such as mefloquine, halofantrine, atovaquone, proguanil, artemether and lumefantrine retain efficacy but have limitations, one of which is their high cost. New antimalarial drugs are clearly needed now. Cytotoxicity assay and susceptibility assay were performed for the selectivity of herb extracts in vitro. On the basis of high selectivity, 4-day suppressive test and survival test were progressed in Plasmodium berghei-infected mice. The selectivity of Areca catechu L. (ACL) and butanol extract of ACL (ACL-BuOH extract) were 3.4 and 3.0 in vitro, respectively. Moreover in vivo, 4-day suppressive test showed 39.1 % inhibition effect after treated with 150 mg/kg/day ACL-BuOH to P. berghei-infected mice. Survival test also showed 60% survival rate with ACL-BuOH-treated group while all other group mice died. In this study, ACL and ACL-BuOH were investigated for antimalarial activity in vitro and in vivo and they showed a potent antimalarial activity. In particular,ACL-BuOH could specifically lead higher survival rate of mice in vivo. Therefore ACL-BuOH would be a candidate of antimalarial drugs.

        Detection of gas-solid flow faults of a circulating fluidized bed using pressure fluctuations in wind caps

        Wind cap partial blockages and agglomeration are two of the most common gas-solid flow faults that occur under the actual operations of circulating fluidized bed boilers. Using the method of measuring pressure fluctuations, for the characterization of fluid dynamics in fluidized beds, has a great advantage, due to its flexible adaptation to any operating conditions to monitor fluidization. This paper presents research into the use of measuring and analyzing pressure fluctuations in wind caps, for the analysis of the gas-solid fluidization characteristics in a fluidized bed with wind cap partial blockages or agglomeration fault. Partial blockages in a wind cap near feeding side and partial blockages in another wind cap near recycling side as well as agglomeration of different extents were simulated in a cold circulating fluidized bed. Pressure fluctuations in the inlets of several wind caps were measured at different primary air velocities under different fault conditions. They were then analyzed with the methods of statistical average, standard deviation, wavelet analysis and homogeneous index. Based on the calculated characteristic parameters, the effects of gas-solid flow faults on the gas-solid fluidization characteristics were analyzed. Results showed that variations of characteristic parameters of pressure fluctuations were related to variations of the gas-solid flow condition, which were caused by wind cap partial blockages or agglomerations. It is shown that the proposed method is practical.

        OFDM-Based STBC with Low End-to-End Delay for Full-Duplex Asynchronous Cooperative Systems

        We propose a new space-time block coding (STBC) for asynchronous cooperative systems in full-duplex mode. The orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission technique is used to combat the timing errors from the relay nodes. At the relay nodes, only one OFDM time slot is required to delay for a pair-wise symbol swap operation. The decoding complexity is lower for this new STBC than for the traditional quasi-orthogonal STBC. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves excellent performances.

        Temporary formation of highly conducting domain walls for non-destructive read-out of ferroelectric domain-wall resistance switching memories

        Erasable conductive domain walls in insulating ferroelectric thin films can be used for non-destructive electrical read-out of the polarization states in ferroelectric memories. Still, the domain-wall currents extracted by these devices have not yet reached the intensity and stability required to drive read-out circuits operating at high speeds. This study demonstrated non-destructive read-out of digital data stored using specific domain-wall configurations in epitaxial BiFeO<SUB>3</SUB> thin films formed in mesa-geometry structures. Partially switched domains, which enable the formation of conductive walls during the read operation, spontaneously retract when the read voltage is removed, reducing the accumulation of mobile defects at the domain walls and potentially improving the device stability. Three-terminal memory devices produced 14 nA read currents at an operating voltage of 5 V, and operated up to T = 85 °C. The gap length can also be smaller than the film thickness, allowing the realization of ferroelectric memories with device dimensions far below 100 nm.

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A set of 5,15‐biphenylene‐bridged porphyrin wheels, namely, [<I>n</I>]cyclo‐5,15‐porphyrinylene‐4,4′‐biphenylenes <B>[<I>n</I>]CPB</B>, have been synthesized through the platination of 5,15‐bis(4‐(pinacolboranyl)phenyl) nickel(II) porphyrin and subsequent reductive elimination of Pt<SUP>II</SUP>(cod)‐bridged cyclic porphyrin intermediates. The calculated strain energies for <B>[3]CPB</B>, <B>[4]CPB</B>, <B>[5]CPB</B>, and <B>[6]CPB</B> are 49.3, 32.9, 23.5, and 16.0 kcal mol<SUP>−1</SUP>, respectively. UV/Vis absorption spectra and cyclic voltammetry indicated characteristic ring‐size‐dependent absorption‐peak shifts and redox‐potential shifts, which presumably reflect the degree of strain in the π‐systems. Excitation‐energy hopping (EEH) times were determined to be 5.1, 8.0, 8.0, and 9.6 ps for <B>[3]CPB</B>, <B>[4]CPB</B>, <B>[5]CPB</B>, and <B>[6]CPB</B>, respectively, in a pump‐power‐dependent TA experiment.</P>

        Inhomogeneity of Hot Rolling Texture in Cu/Nb Added Ultra Low Carbon Steels

        The texture and microstructure in Cu/Nb added ultra low carbon steels through the different thickness layer were studied after hot rolling. It was found that the two ultra low carbon steels all show the inhomogeneity of hot rolling texture and the Cu-added ultra low carbon steel was far more inhomogeneous than Nb-added one. In the center layer, the strong ${\alpha}\;fibre,\;{\gamma}\;fibre$ textures and the shear textures including 001<110>, 111<112> were founded. Near the surface, the ${\alpha}\;fibre$ texture and the orientation texture caused by a typical plane-strain deformation condition of bcc metals were observed.

        A New ent-Kaurane type Diterpenoid Glycoside from Inula japonica Thunb

        A new ent-kaurane type diterpenoid glycoside, 17-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-16α-ent-kauran-19-oic acid (1), together with 17-hydroxy-16α-ent-kauran-19-oic acid (2), 16α,17-dihydroxyl-ent-kauran-19-oic acid (3), and 16α-hydroxy-17-acetoxy-ent- kauran-19-oic acid (4) were isolated from the aerial parts of Inula japonica Thunb. The structure of 1 was determined mainly by use of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques including HSQC, 1H-1H COSY, HMBC, and NOESY. In addition, 4 exhibited significant inhibitory activity on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells with IC50 value of 14.3 μg/mL.
