      • Gemcitabine And Cisplatin Followed by Chemo-Radiation for Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Jamshed, Arif,Hussain, Raza,Iqbal, Hassan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.2

Concurrent chemo-radiation (CRT) has been established as the standard of care for non-metastatic loco-regionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) but recently the addition of induction chemotherapy in the already established regimen has presented an attractive multidisciplinary approach. This retrospective study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by CRT for the management of loco-regionally advanced NPC. Between July 2005 and September 2010, 99 patients were treated with cisplatin based IC followed by CRT. Induction chemotherapy included a 2 drug combination; intravenous gemcitabine $1000mg/m^2$ on day 1 and 8 and cisplatin $75mg/m^2$ on day 1 only. Radiotherapy (RT) was given as a phase treatment to a total dose of 70 Gy in 35 fractions. Concurrent cisplatin ($75mg/m^2$) was administered to all patients on days 1, 22 and 43. All patients were evaluated for tumor response and adverse effects after IC and 6 weeks after the completion of the treatment protocol. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 17 and Kaplan Meier estimates were applied to project survival. Median follow-up duration was 20 months. The 5-year overall survival (OS), loco regional control (LRC) and relapse free survival (RFS) rates were 71%, 73% and 50%respectively. Acute grade 4 toxicity related to induction chemotherapy and concurrent chemo-radiation was 4% and 2% respectively, with only 3 toxicity-related hospital admissions. We conclude that induction gemcitabine and cisplatin followed by chemo-radiation is a safe and effective regimen in management of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, meriting further investigation in randomized clinical trials.

Issues and Misconceptions of Financial Inclusion Indices: Evidences from Selected Asian Economies

Jamshed ALI,Muhammad Arshad KHAN,Usman Shaukat KHAN,Misbah WADOOD 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.12

This study aims to revisit the issues and misconceptions about financial inclusion (FI) indices. For indices construction, this study uses two approaches: one approach following the methodology of Sarma (2008) which is based on UNDP methodology, while the other is the Dynamic Factor Model (DFM)-based index of Stock and Watson (2002) and Rehman et al. (2021). The data of 18 economies of Asia from 1997 till 2017 is used for indices construction and analysis. The authors constructed macro and micro-level financial inclusion indices based on the different types of financial inclusion indicators. Second, the authors have critically evaluated two different approaches, and the results show that Sarma (2008)-based index show financial inclusion’s level, while DFM-based index reveal fluctuation in the current year’s financial inclusion level due to the prior variations. For measuring the level of financial inclusion, the Sarma (2008) index is effective, while for forecasting the level of financial inclusion, the DFM approach is more appropriate. Furthermore, the micro and macro aspects of financial inclusion should be reflected in separate indices for better understanding and in-depth insights.

Revisiting Financial Inclusion and Income Inequality Nexus: Evidences from Selected Economies in Asia

Jamshed ALI,Muhammad Arshad KHAN,Misbah WADOOD,Usman Shaukat KHAN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.12

This study aims to measure financial inclusion and examine its impact on income inequality in a panel of 18 Asian countries over the period 1997–2017. Two alternative approaches for developing financial inclusion index are used: one approach following the methodology of Sarma (2008), while the other is the Dynamic Factor Model (DFM)-based index. The impact of individual indicators and index of financial inclusion on inequality in income is analyzed. The Generalized Method of Moment (GMM) approach is used for empirical analysis. The results indicate that micro-level financial inclusion has a weak negative and statistically significant impact on income inequality. Macro-level index and all individual indicators of financial inclusion do not affect income inequality in the selected sample of economies. The income inequality issues have different natures and cannot be fixed by financial inclusion only. It needs holistic structural reforms to enable fair distribution of income and make an equitable financial system. Financial inclusion is a relatively less important intervention tool regarding fixing the issue of income inequality. This is one of the first studies that used the DFM method for financial inclusion indices construction.

Trajectory Tracking Control of Multi-DOF Robot without Considering System Dynamics

        Saad Jamshed Abbasi,Hamza Khan,이민철 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.9

In this study, two different control logics have been designed for the position control of a robot with five degrees of freedom (DOFs). First, a sliding mode control with a sliding perturbation observer (SMCSPO) has been proposed. The SMCSPO is robust against perturbation, which is the sum of nonlinearities, parametric uncertainties, and external disturbances. To implement the SMCSPO, linear parameters of the system are required; however, these are difficult to identify. Moreover, it is exigent to derive the equation of motion for the multi-DOF robot. Accordingly, an integral sliding mode control (ISMC) has been designed for the position control of this multi-DOF robot. The ISMC controller does not require a mathematical model of the system. The ISMC control input applies a switching gain to compensate for the perturbation and system dynamics. In comparison with the SMCSPO, the ISMC has improved the tracking performance of the system because of its unique characteristics. Both control schemes have been implemented in MATLAB/Simulink. It has been observed that the tracking error of each ISMC joint is lower than that of the SMCSPO.

Investigation of entropy generation rate and its minimization in helical grooved tubes

        Shamoon Jamshed,Shafiq R. Qureshi,Aqeel Shah,Ahmad Hussain 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.10

Surface enhancement in heat exchangers has been actively researched, but enhancements have been mainly on the tube side, involving optimization of the geometry. The effect of surface enhancement has been studied in great detail experimentally, but numerical studies are scarce and involve performance comparisons based on the friction factor and Nusselt number. However, true performance can be assessed based on entropy generation minimization. We performed a numerical study on tubes with helical groove formation to assess entropy generation minimization. The tube data were initially validated experimentally and tube performance was then examined via thermal enhancement factors and entropy generation minimization. The Reynolds number was taken as 5000 to 10000 in accordance with an experimental study. All the tubes had an enhancement factor greater than unity, meaning that they were thermally efficient. However, with regard to irreversibility, the tube with the minimum pitch-0.051 m-(GT02) produced the lowest value and hence the minimum entropy generation rate, and thus represented the optimal choice for heat exchangers.

Esterification of acetic and oleic acids within the Amberlyst 15 packed catalytic column

Yousuf Jamal,Jamshed Ali Khan,Afeeq Shahid,O’Neil Boulanger 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.2

A packed column system was used to study the esterification of acetic and oleic acids by the macro-porous acidic resin, Amberlyst 15. All reactions were at a constant temperature (75 oC) and catalyst mass (3 g). The impact of column flow rate conditions and the molar fatty acid to ethanol feedstock ratio on ester production is reported. The maximum ester production was noted at a flow rate of 0.25mL/min. The maximum observed ester yield for acetic acid (95.2±0.5%) and oleic acid (43.8±1.3%) was observed at an acid:ethanol molar ratio of 1 : 3 and 1 : 1, respectively. The difference in yield indicates the importance of the fatty acid chain length to the reaction.

Optimal torso design selection for dual 7-DOF robot arm using von Mises stress and workspace analysis

Hamza Khan,Saad Jamshed Abbasi,이민철 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.9

This paper presents a unique optimal torso design selection technique for the dual seven-degree-of-freedom robot arm. This optimal design enhances the robot endeffector's workspace with less operational stress. The selection procedure incorporates the von Mises stress and robot workspace analysis in different robot-torso mounting configurations. The torso design selection strategy includes the von Mises stress calculation numerically and by using SolidWorks static analysis for robot arm considered as bolted-fixed end cantilever beam. Followed by robot end-effector workspace analysis using inverse kinematics, which determines the maximum area covered by manipulated robot end-effector in 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) space. Subsequently, introducing a selection function for torso design. This selection function is calculated based on weighting coefficients (priority given to stress and workspace), von Mises stress, and workspace area. The selection technique concludes that the torso design with upper-arm mounting configuration is optimal for current robot application, i.e., assembly.

      • Estimation Force of Master-Slave for the End Effector of Hydraulic Servo System Using SMCSPO

Karam Dad Kallu,Saad Jamshed Abbasi,Min Cheol Lee 제어로봇시스템학회 2017 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2017 No.10

In this research a bilateral control method is proposed to find the estimation force of master-slave at the end effector of hydraulic servo system using sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observer (SMCSPO). The sliding perturbation observer (SPO) estimates the reaction force at the end effector of master and slave without using any sensor. Sliding mode control (SMC) is used as bilateral controller for the robust position tracking and control of slave device. A bilateral control strategy in hydraulic servo system provides robust position and force tracking between master and slave. This research experimentally verifies that the slave device can follow the trajectory of the master device using the proposed bilateral control strategy and reaction force estimation method.
