Among a few items with world wide competitiveness are the semiconductor and the LCD. Grinding/polishing is the most significant process in manufacturing semiconductor wafers and LCD panels, the most critical quality of which is the precision rate of the machined surfaces. It is well known that the control of the vibrations is the major factor in maintaining superb machined surfaces. In this paper the dynamic properties of a grinding machine have been investigated through the frequency analysis test and the computer simulation to deduce ideas of design modifications for improved stability. The alterations have been applied to the simulation model, which is supposed to have identical dynamic property with the original structure, to identify the effects and to finally achieve the satisfactory level of stability. The result shows that the machine can have much improved stability with relatively simple design changes, and also can improve the surface quality of the products.

A dense nanostructured TiN-AlN composite was prepared from high-energy ball milled TiN-AlN mixture powders by pulsed current activated sintering (PCAS). A highly dense TiN-AlN bulk composite was obtained within 2 minutes at 1500℃ with the simultaneous application of 80 MPa pressure and pulsed current. The fine crystalline structure of the TiN-AlN mixture, which was obtained by high-energy milling, was effectively maintained during PCAS and resulted in the enhancement of the mechanical properties. The micro hardness and fracture toughness of TiN-AlN composite were 1780 kg/mm2 and 5 MPa.m1/2, respectively. The mechanical properties were higher than monolithic AlN or TiN.

The manufacturing process of the semiconductor is guided by the controller, which is supposed to sense the unexpected shocks and/or vibrations to shutdown the hard disk and the whole system in order to prevent the malfunction. This feature of controller would shutdown the system due to the instability of the controller itself as well as the instability of the manufacturing system. And consequently will cause significant losses. In this study the structure of a controller has been investigated to find ways to suppress the vibrations from the structure. The frequency response test and the computer simulation has been implemented to find the structure with improved stability. The result of the study shows that the relatively simple design alterations can eliminate most of the vibrations.
Improving the Self-starting of a VAWT

The inherent problem of a Darrieus wind turbine is its inability to self-start. Usually, a motor is used to provide angular acceleration until lift forces are produced in the airfoil blades or up until the turbine can already sustain its speed on its own. This paper describes a method of improving the self-starting of an H-type Darrieus vertcial axis wind turbine (VAWT) by incorporating a helical Savonius turbine thus utilizing a drag-lift combination. The effect of each turbine in the combination relative to each other is investigated by testing a prototype windmill consisting of three (3) NACA 0015 airfoil combined with a Savonius rotor with a helix angle of 180 degrees and whose swept area equals 30% of the entire turbine.

N/A Determmation of the chomosomal constitution of human spermatozoa has been camed out though the human-hamster interspecific in vitro fertilization(IVF) system. In recent years, the introduction of fluorescence in-situ hybridization(FISH) technique has provided an alternative approach to evaluate the cbmmosomal constitution of human spermatozoa. The nuclei of mature spermatozoa are highly condensed with interpmtamine disulphide bridges, therefore the success of FISH on interphase human spermatozoa relies on partial decondensation of the sperm chromatin. In early studies, dithioothreitol(DTT) has been known as an efficient decondensation agent. Since then, several different decondensation methods using D1T have been establisdhed, and in terms of decondensation, we were tried to fix the optimal decondensation protocol using DlT. In our study, the optimal concentration and treatment time were 1-mM and 30 min, respectively. We examined chromosome complements of human sperm to investigate the effect of paternal age on the hequency of nondisjunction in human sperm. We investgated sperm karyotypes ftom two diffaent age groups)28+-0.5, 46+-6), A minimum of 1000 spermatozoa for one patient were analyzed. The mean frequencies of YY, XX, XY, 21-disamy spermatozoa ware 0.04%, 0.45%, 0.40%, 0.45% respectively in young age group and 1.06%, 0.62%, 1.06%, 0.76% in old ages. The mean frequency of disomy spermatozoa was higher in old age poup compare with those of young age group.

The productivity and the precision machining are the major concerns of the machine tools, and the importance of those features will be even more emphasized with the needs of the modern industries. In this paper the dynamic properties of a lathe have been investigated through the frequency analysis test and the computer simulation to minimize the transmission of vibration generated during the machining process. The modifications have been applied to the original structure to suppress the vibration transmission and further for the structure to achieve less vibrations and higher precision machining. The result shows that the machine can have much less vibrations with simple design alterations for minor expenses, the result can also be readily applied to many similar machines for improved stability.
