<P>A supramolecular self-assembly of finite tapes of lattice water molecules with the coordinated water molecules of hydrated metal ions forms 2D cationic layers of water molecules in the coordination complex [Ni(H2O)6][Ni(Pydi)2(H2O)2]·4H2O (Pydi = 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylate). Two different synthetic approaches to prepare inclusion complexes of Keggin anion [PW12O40]3- and [Cu3(BTC)2(H2O)3]n (also known as HKUST-1) have resulted in the formation of two different materials [Cu3(C9H3O6)2(H2O)3]2Na3PW12O40.nH2O (1) and [Na6(BTC-H2)3(H2O)15][PW12O40] (2). Compound 1 is a thermally stable, nanoporous material with a type 1 adsorption isotherm. It contains the well-known MOF material [Cu3(BTC)2(H2O)3]n with half of its pores occupied by the guest Keggin anion. The second product 2 is a crystalline, 3D coordination polymer with a composition of [Na6(BTC-H2)3(H2O)15][PW12O40] (where BTC-H3 stands for 1,3,5-benzene-tricarboxylic acid) and is a non-porous, highly water soluble and thermally unstable material. The compound 1 was prepared hydrothermally using precursors of HKUST-1 and Na3[(PW12O40)] whereas 2 was obtained at room temperature from aqueous solutions containing [Cu3(BTC)2(H2O)3]n and Na3[(PW12O40)] salts. The molecular structure of 2 is unique and features two distinct elements: an anionic Keggin ion [PW12O40]3- and a ''bowl type'' hexameric [Na6(C9H5O6)3(H2O)15]3+ macrocation which is formed by coordination of Na+ ions by (BTC-H2)- anions and water molecules. The macrocation extends in three dimensions due to Y type (BTC-H2)- to form a porous MOF offering triangular voids. In this framework the globular Keggin ions support themselves above these voids by coordinating to Na+ ions and render it completely nonporous. The complex has an unusual structure in the sense that the polyoxoanion is coordinated to [Na6(C9H5O6)3(H2O)15]3+ ions by using the three terminal oxygen atoms in a single M3O13 triplet, when each one of them is also bridging between two Na+ ions. In the crystal structure the POM anion is encapsulated by six octahedrally disposed (BTC-H2)- moieties. H-bonding interactions among water molecules produce supramolecular water hexamers and dimers.

Background: Systemic lupus with antiphospholipid syndrome is associated with thrombotic manifestations. There is little literature on lupus with anitiphospholipid syndrome patients presenting with splenic infarctions. Case Presentation: This is a case of a 28-year-old Chinese Female who presented with fever, night sweats and splenomegaly and lymphadenopathies. Investigations showed Hemoglobin of 6. 1g/dL, total white cell 8. 1x109/L, Platelets 300x109/L, Absolute Reticulocyte count 182. 5, Direct coombs positive, Bilirubin 12, Lactate Dehydrogenase 1264, Haptoglobin 15, ANA-IFA 640, homogenous pattern, Anti-ds-DNA >200, Lupus anti -coagulant and anti-cardiolipin positive. CT abdomen and pelvis showed splenomegaly with multiple hypodense lesions as well as abdominal and retroperitoneal adenopathy. CT neck was also done which showed polypoidal soft tissue in the nasopharynx. She underwent post-nasal space biopsy, which was negative of malignancy. She had bone marrow aspiration, which revealed hypercellular marrow with increase erythropoesis consistent with peripheral destruction. She also went for biopsy of the spleen, which was negative for tuberculosis and malignancy or lymphoma. Patient was then started on steroids for treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus with autoimmune phospholipid syndrome and showed clinical improvement. Discussion: Splenic hypodensities are usually benign and differential diagnoses include cysts, infarction, metastases, lymphomas, hamartomas, haemangiomas and tuberculosis. In a large, multicenter study, involving 1,000 adult patients with antiphospholipidsyndrome, spleen infarct was present in only 1. 1% of patients. Given the history of fever, splenomegaly and elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase, this case illustrates apossibility of splenic infarctions on the background of a hypercoagulable state, specifi - cally antiphospholipid syndrome. Conclusion: Hypodensities in the spleen in a patient with lupus can be associated with antiphospholipid syndrome with splenic infarctions. It would be necessary to rule out metastases, tuberculosis and lymphoma as differential diagnoses in such cases.

<P>Different phases in hybrid complexes of Co(II) with cis-4-cyclohexene-1-2-dicarboxylicacid (C6H8-1,2-CO2H=Cy-H2) have been generated depending on the reaction conditions. By microwave-irradiation of the same reaction mixtures at different temperatures we have obtained two new phases Co(C8H8O4) x H2O and [Co2(OH)2.8(Cy-H)1.2]. These phases have been established by XRD, UV-DRS, IR and thermo-gravimetric studies as well as by comparison with the reported phases. In these phases the Cy is found in a cis conformation. It has been seen that microwave synthesis proves to be a rapid and clean method of obtaining new high temperature phases in high purity which are obtained, in an impure state after a long time of hydrothermal synthesis.</P>

<P>Various copper(II) ions incorporated nickel phosphates (Cu-VSB-5) have been hydrothermally synthesized at 453 K in weak basic conditions under microwave irradiation. Ni(II) in nickel phosphate was isomorphously substituted by Cu(II) ions and it was characterized by using X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma (ICP), Diffuse Reflectance (DR) UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Characterization results show that the framework structure of VSB-5 can hold a substantial level of isomorphous substitution up to 5% Cu(II) in the octahedral sites of nickel. The isomorphous substitution was studied by observing changes in the unit cell parameters and by spectroscopic methods. Interestingly, this isomorphous substitution leads to the selective separation of propylene over propane at lower pressure than unsubstituted VSB-5.</P>
