CHARACTERIZATIONS OF GAMMA DISTRIBUTION VIA SUB-INDEPENDENT RANDOM VARIABLES

Hamedani, G.G. The Chungcheong Mathematical Society 2015 충청수학회지 Vol.28 No.2

The concept of sub-independence is based on the convolution of the distributions of the random variables. It is much weaker than that of independence, but is shown to be sufficient to yield the conclusions of important theorems and results in probability and statistics. It also provides a measure of dissociation between two random variables which is much stronger than uncorrelatedness. Inspired by the excellent work of Jin and Lee (2014), we present certain characterizations of gamma distribution based on the concept of sub-independence.

JacSim: An accurate and efficient link-based similarity measure in graphs

Hamedani, M.R.,Kim, S.W. Elsevier science 2017 Information sciences Vol.414 No.-

<P>SimRank is a well-known link-based similarity measure successfully applied in many graph-related applications. Despite of the current success of SimRank, it suffers from the problem caused by its pairwise normalization paradigm in similarity computation. In this paper, we propose JacSim (Jaccard-based SimRank) that solves the pairwise normalization problem in an effective way. JacSim computes the similarity score of a node-pair by combining two different computation manners: Jaccard coefficient and pairwise normalization. We point out two problems of existing measures targeted at solving the pairwise normalization problem and provide effective solutions to them: (1) JacSim eliminates the redundancy hidden in their similarity computation; (2) JacSim enables to control the degree of importance of the two scores obtained by employing Jaccard coefficient and pairwise normalization. In order to take advantage of links weights in similarity computation, we propose a weighted version of JacSim applicable to weighted graphs. Furthermore, to accelerate JacSim, we provide a linear recursive matrix form of JacSim, which is composed of only linear operations. We demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our JacSim by conducting extensive experiments with real-world datasets. The results show that JacSim outperforms existing measures significantly in term of accuracy and also provides better performance than the similarity measures targeted to solve the pairwise normalization problem. REMARKS ON A PAPER OF LEE AND LIM

        Hamedani, G.G.,Slattery, M.C. The Chungcheong Mathematical Society 2014 충청수학회지 Vol.27 No.3

Lee and Lim (2009) state three characterizations of Loamax, exponential and power function distributions, the proofs of which, are based on the solutions of certain second order non-linear differential equations. For these characterizations, they make the following statement : "Therefore there exists a unique solution of the differential equation that satisfies the given initial conditions". Although the general solution of their first differential equation is easily obtainable, they do not obtain the general solutions of the other two differential equations to ensure their claim via initial conditions. In this very short report, we present the general solutions of these equations and show that the particular solutions satisfying the initial conditions are uniquely determined to be Lomax, exponential and power function distributions respectively.

SimCC: A novel method to consider both content and citations for computing similarity of scientific papers

        Reyhani Hamedani, M.,Kim, S.W.,Kim, D.J. Elsevier science 2016 Information sciences Vol.334 No.-

<P>To compute the similarity of scientific papers, text-based similarity measures, link-based similarity measures, and hybrid methods can be applied. The text-based and link-based similarity measures take into account only a single aspect of scientific papers, content or citations, respectively. The hybrid methods consider both content and citations; however, they do not carefully consider the relation between the content of a pair of papers involved in a citation relationship. In this paper, we propose a novel method, SimCC (similarity based on content and citations), that considers both aspects, content and citations, to compute the similarity of scientific papers. Unlike previous methods, SimCC effectively reflects both content and authority of scientific papers simultaneously in similarity computation by applying a new RA (relevance and authority) weighting scheme. Also, we propose an RA+R weighting scheme to consider the recency of papers and an RA+E weighting scheme to take into account the author expertise of papers in similarity computation. The effectiveness of our proposed method is demonstrated by extensive experiments on a real-world dataset of scientific papers. The results show that our method achieves more than 100% improvement in accuracy in comparison with previous methods. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.</P>

      • AndroClass: An Effective Method to Classify Android Applications by Applying Deep Neural Networks to Comprehensive Features

Reyhani Hamedani, Masoud,Shin, Dongjin,Lee, Myeonggeon,Cho, Seong-Je,Hwang, Changha Hindawi Limited 2018 WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS AND MOBILE COMPUTING Vol.2018 No.-

<P>Android application (app) stores contain a<I> huge</I> number of apps, which are<I> manually</I> classified based on the apps’ descriptions into various categories. However, the predefined categories or apps descriptions are usually<I> not</I> very accurate to reflect the real functionalities of apps, thereby leading to<I> misclassify</I> the apps, which may cause serious<I> security issues</I> and<I> unreliability</I> problem in the app store. Therefore, the automatic app classification is an<I> important</I> demand to construct a<I> secure</I>,<I> reliable</I>,<I> integrated</I>, and<I> easy to navigate</I> app store. In this paper, we propose an effective method called<I> AndroClass</I> to<I> automatically</I> classify apps based on their<I> real</I> functionalities by using<I> rich</I> and<I> comprehensive</I> features representing the<I> actual</I> functionalities of the apps. AndroClass performs<I> three</I> steps of<I> feature extraction</I>,<I> feature refinement</I>, and<I> classification</I>. In the feature extraction step, we extract 14 various features for each app by utilizing a<I> unified tool suite</I>. In the feature refinement step, we apply<I> Random Forest</I> algorithm to refine the features. In the classification step, we combine refined features into a<I> single</I> one and AndroClass is equipped with K-Nearest Neighbor, Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, and Deep Neural Network to classify apps. On the contrary to the existing methods, all the utilized features in AndroClass are<I> stable</I> and<I> clearly</I> represent the actual functionalities of the app, AndroClass does<I> not</I> pose any issues to the<I> user privacy</I>, and our method can be applied to classify<I> unreleased</I> or<I> newly released</I> apps. The results of<I> extensive</I> experiments with two<I> real-world</I> datasets and a dataset constructed by<I> human experts</I> demonstrate the effectiveness of AndroClass where the classification accuracy of AndroClass with the latter dataset is 83.5%.</P>

Expression of BMP2-Hydrophobin fusion protein in the tobacco plant and molecular dynamic evaluation of its simulated model

        Rahimifard Hamedani Pouya,Solouki Mahmood,Ehsani Parastoo,Emamjomeh Abbasali,Ofoghi Hamideh 한국식물생명공학회 2021 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.15 No.3

Plants are one of the ideal models for therapeutic protein production, however the recombinant protein purifcation problems in them must be overcome. Bone Morphogenetic Protein2 (BMP2) is employed for the restoration and construction of bone tissues. Hydrophobin is a fungal based protein with high hydrophobic characteristics. Due to this specifcity, it is suitable for the purifcation of chimer protein from complex solutions when is fused to a protein utilizing an aqueous two-phase (A2P) technique. The plant optimized mature human BMP2 gene was designed and evaluated by in silico method. This process involves simulating molecular dynamics using the RMSD, RMSF and Gyration radius indexes. The synthesized Hyd-BMP2 gene was cloned into a pTRAkc-ERH plasmid and Transferred into Agrobacterium (Gv3101). The Nicotiana benthamiana plant leaves were co-agroinfltrated with HA-Hyd-BMP2 and P19-pCambia1304 containing silencing suppressor. After purifcation of plant extract utilizing the A2P method, the sample was subjected to SDS-PAGE and Western-blot. By in silico study, the simulated fusion protein proftably shows reasonable protein compactness and the efect of amino acid substitution on protein–protein interaction is not remarkable. Western-blotting using anti HA tag has shown that the A2P technique partially purifed the two 22 kDa and 44 kDa forms of Hydrophobin-BMP2. These results confrmed the presence of monomer and dimer forms of Hydrophobin-BMP2 proteins. Moreover, the expression level of the protein using P19 silencing suppressor increased six times and to 0.018% as shown by ELISA. This study presents a fast and easy technique for the purifcation of transient expressed pharmaceutical proteins from plants.

STAR FORMATION HISTORY AND DUST PRODUCTION: NGC147 AND NGC185

        GOLSHAN, ROYA HAMEDANI,JAVADI, ATEFEH,VAN LOON, JACCO TH.,KHOSROSHAHI, HABIB G. The Korean Astronomical Society 2015 天文學論叢 Vol.30 No.2

NGC147 and NGC185, paired satellites of the Andromeda galaxy, possess the same order of mass and analogous structures, but they show different star formation and different amounts of interstellar gas and dust. Therefore, we present the first reconstruction of the star formation history of NGC147 and NGC185. Asymptotic Giant Branch stars are highly evolved stars that are brightest in K-band. This maximum K-band magnitude is related to the birth mass of stars. As a result, we have found a 9.9 Gyr old single star formation epoch for NGC185 followed by relatively continuous star formation. NGC147, however, has passed through two star formation episodes; one is as old as ~6 Gyr and the other is as recent as ~850 Myr. Asymptotic Giant Branch stars are also important dust factories; by fitting Spectral Energy Distributions to observed near and mid infrared data for each star, we were able to measure the dust production rates of individual stars; on order of $10^{-5}M_{\odot}yr^{-1}$. Hence, we estimate the total mass entering the interstellar medium to be $1.06{\times}10^{-4}M_{\odot}yr^{-1}$ and $2.89{\times}10^{-4}M_{\odot}yr^{-1}$ for NGC147 and NGC185.
