Controlling the Optical and Magnetic Properties of Nanostructured Cuprous Oxide Synthesized from Waste Electric Cables

        S. M. Abdelbasir,S. M. El-Sheikh,M.M. Rashad,D.A. Rayan 대한금속·재료학회 2018 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.14 No.4

Cuprous oxide Cu2Onanopowders were purposefully synthesised from waste electric cables (WECs) via a simple precipitationroute at room temperature using lactose as a reducing agent. In this regard, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was first appliedas an organic solvent for the dissolution of the cable insulating materials. Several parameters were investigated during dissolutionof WECs such as dissolution temperature, time and solid/liquid ratio to determine the dissolution percentage of theinsulating materials in DMSO. The morphology and the optical properties of the formed Cu2Oparticles were investigatedusing X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopyand UV–visible–near IR spectrophotometer. XRD data confirmed the presence of single crystalline phase of Cu2Onanoparticles. FE-SEM and TEM images revealed spherical, cubic and octahedral shapes with the various particle sizesranged from 16 to 57 nm depending on the synthesis conditions. A possible mechanism explaining the Cu2Onanostructuresformation was proposed. The band gap energies of the Cu2Onanostructures were estimated and the values were locatedbetween 1.5 and 2.08 eV. Photoluminescence spectroscopy analysis clearly showed a noticeably blue-shifted emission forthe synthesized samples compared to spectrum of the bulk. Eventually, magnetic properties of the synthesized nanoparticleshave been measured by vibrating sample magnetometer and the attained results implied that the synthesized particles areweakly ferromagnetic in nature at normal temperature.

Prism method of studying the refractive index for zinc borate sodium glass doped neodymium oxide

        Y.H. Elbashar,Aly Saeed,D.A. Rayan 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2016 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.17 No.6

This work presents the elasto optic effect and some optical properties of a glass system with a chemical composition(15+x)Na2O-(43-x)B2O3-40ZnO-2Nd2O3 (where x = 0, 5 and 10), which has been prepared using the melt quenching method. Density and refractive index were measured. Molar mass, permittivity, molar refraction, reflectance, phase velocity, Brewsterangle, polarizability, electric susceptibility and elasto optic coefficient were estimated. X-ray diffraction analysis conformedthat amorphous nature of the prepared glass were found. The density and molar volume was followed the normal behaviorof glass system for the three samples. The effects of Na2O content on the glass system were causing effect of the estimatedvalues with changing of the boron network of BO3 and the BO4. The theoretical results that used in this research paper aregood agreement to be followed for any expecting results to any oxide glass materials. Clausius-Mossotti is an excellent methodfor calculating the optical behaviors like reflectance, phase velocity, Brewster angle, polarizability, electric susceptibility or anyrelated optical properties for any oxide glass materials.

      • Jak-TGFβ cross-talk links transient adipose tissue inflammation to beige adipogenesis

        Babaei, Rohollah,Schuster, Maximilian,Meln, Irina,Lerch, Sarah,Ghandour, Rayane A.,Pisani, Didier F.,Bayindir-Buchhalter, Irem,Marx, Julia,Wu, Shuang,Schoiswohl, Gabriele,Billeter, Adrian T.,Krunic, D AAAS 2018 Science signaling Vol.11 No.527

The transient activation of inflammatory networks is required for adipose tissue remodeling including the 'browning' of white fat in response to stimuli such as. 3-adrenergic receptor activation. In this process, white adipose tissue acquires thermogenic characteristics through the recruitment of so-called beige adipocytes. We investigated the downstream signaling pathways impinging on adipocyte progenitors that promote de novo formation of adipocytes. We showed that the Jak family of kinases controlled TGF beta signaling in the adipose tissue microenvironment through Stat3 and thereby adipogenic commitment, a function that was required for beige adipocyte differentiation of murine and human progenitors. Jak/Stat3 inhibited TGF beta signaling to the transcription factors Srf and Smad3 by repressing local Tgfb3 and Tgfb1 expression before the core transcriptional adipogenic cascade was activated. This pathway cross-talk was triggered in stromal cells by ATGL-dependent adipocyte lipolysis and a transient wave of IL-6 family cytokines at the onset of adipose tissue remodeling induced by beta 3-adrenergic receptor stimulation. Our results provide insight into the activation of adipocyte progenitors and are relevant for the therapeutic targeting of adipose tissue inflammatory pathways.
