Investigation on the Interaction of Gabapentin with Bovine Serum Albumin by Spectroscopic Techniques
Ashoka, S.,Seetharamappa, J.,Kandagal, P.B.,Shaikh, S.M.T. Korean Society of Photoscience 2005 Journal of Photosciences Vol.12 No.3
Spectroscopic investigations on the interaction of gabapentin (GBP) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) were reported. The association constant of GBP-BSA system was determined at different temperatures (298, 302, 306 and 311 K) based on the fluorescence quenching results. The GBP was found to quench the fluorescence of BSA through static mechanism. Thermodynamic parameters, the standard enthalpy change, $({\Delta}H^o)$ and the standard entropy change $({\Delta}S^o)$ were observed to be $-9.61{\pm}0.008\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$ and $3.58{\pm}0.011\;Jmol^{-1}K{-1}$ respectively. These indicated that the hydrophobic and electrostatic forces played a role in the interaction of GBP with BSA. The negative value of ${\Delta}G^o$ revealed that the binding reaction is spontaneous. The circular dichroism studies indicated the conformational changes in BSA upon interaction with GBP. The effect of some metal ions on the binding constant was also investigated.

The novel approach of the present work is the investigation of mechanical and metallurgical performance characteristics oftwo aluminium alloy 5052-H32 and 5053-H11 joint welded by friction stir welding. The experimental dissimilar metal frictionstir welding investigated the influencing input welding process parameters and resultant effects on the performancecharacteristics of the welded specimen. The square pin tool with 15 mm tool shoulder diameter and a constant tool feed of 28mm/min was used with varying tool rotation speed of 800, 1000 and 1200 rpm in conjunction with 10kN axial thrust wereutilized in experimentally producing dissimilar weld joints. The welded specimen were subsequently characterized formicrostructural, tensile strength and microhardness properties by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-raydiffraction analysis, tensile test and Vickers microhardness survey. Improved grain structure and reduced defects anddislocations were observed with specimen welded by 1000rpm tool rotational speed with 87.67% joint efficiency with 13.29%elongation. The influencing parameters was identified to be tool rotational speed contributing significantly in improvingmicrohardness of the specimen by 12.86% over the base aluminium 5083-H32 alloy.

We express the Seidel Laplacian polynomial and Seidel signless Laplacian polynomial of a graph in terms of the Seidel polynomials of induced subgraphs. Further, we determine the Seidel Laplacian polynomial and Seidel signless Laplacian polynomial of the join of regular graphs.

Brinjal Fruit and Shoot Borer- Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee is a major insect pest on brinjal- Solanum melongena worldwide. An effective strategy used in developing pest controlling agents is the synergism between insect pheromones and host plant volatiles, which can increase the attraction of insect pest. The present study was aimed at investigating the chemical constituents and attractant effects of the volatiles extracted from different parts of the host plant brinjal on the behavior of adult L. orbonalis. Bioassay using Y-shaped olfactometer revealed that the one-day old virgin female, gravid female and male insects respond positively to the host plant volatiles extracted from fruits, leaves and shoots but not to that of flowers. It was shown that the gravid females were significantly attracted to all three volatiles (p < 0.05). Bioassay using X-shaped olfactometer identified that all three types of insects highly preferred the volatiles from fruits (p < 0.05). Gas chromatography-mass spec trometry analysis of volatiles indicated that brinjal plant produces volatile secondary metabolites, which include 2,2 ′ -(Ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxy))bis(ethane-2,1-diyl) dibenzoate (12.11%), 3,7-dimethylocta-1,6-dien-3-ol (22.38%), Benzyl alcohol (22.9%) and Benzyl alcohol (27.06%) as major constituents from fruits, shoots, leaves and flowers respectively. Responses of insects to the volatiles from host plant in the absence of visual cues direct us to focus on the importance of host plant volatiles to locate the plant. Results of this study emphasize the major role that host plant volatiles play in the attraction of insect pests towards the plant.

Herein, a new and generic strategy has been proposed to introduce uniformly distributed graphitic carbon into the nanostructured metal oxide. A facile and generic synthetic protocol has been proposed to introduce uniformly distributed conducting graphitic carbon into the Co3O4 nanoparticles (Co3O4 NPs@graphitic carbon). The prepared Co3O4 NPs@graphitic carbon has been drop casted onto the portable screen-printed electrode (SPE) to realize its potential application in the individual and simultaneous quantification of toxic Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions present in aqueous solution. The proposed Co3O4 NPs@graphitic carbon-based electrochemical sensor exhibits a wide linear range from 0 to 120 ppb with limit of detection of 3.2 and 3.5 ppb towards the simultaneous detection of Pb(II) and Cd(II), which falls well below threshold limit prescribed by WHO.
