Step-Up Asymmetrical Nine Phase Delta-Connected Transformer for HVDC Transmission
Ammar, Arafet Ben,Ammar, Faouzi Ben The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.6
In order to provide a source for nine phases suitable for 18-pulse ac to dc power, this paper proposes a new structure for a step-up asymmetrical delta-connected transformer for converting three-phase ac power to nine-phase ac power. The design allows for symmetry between the nine output voltages to improve the power quality of the supply current and to minimize the THD. The results show that this new structure proves the equality between the output voltages with $40^{\circ}-{\alpha}$ and $40^{\circ}+{\alpha}$ phase shifting and produces symmetrical output currents. This result in the elimination of harmonics in the network current and provides a simulated THD that is equal to 5.12 %. An experimental prototype of the step-up asymmetrical delta-autotransformer is developed in the laboratory and the obtained results give a network current with a THD that is equal to 5.35%. Furthermore, a finite element analysis with a 3D magnetic field model is made based on the dimensions of the 4kVA, 400 V laboratory prototype three-phase with three-limb delta-autotransformer with a six-stacked-core in each limb. The magnetic distribution flux, field intensity and magnetic energy are carried out under open-circuit operation or load-loss.

Availability equivalence factors of a general repairable series-parallel system
Ammar M. Sarhan,Abdelfatth Mustafa 한국신뢰성학회 2013 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.14 No.1
The availability equivalence factors of a general repairable series-parallel system is discussed in this paper based on the availability function of the system. The system components are assumed to be repairable and independent but not identical. The life and repair times of the system components are exponentially distributed with different parameters. Two types of availability equivalent factors of the system are derived. The results derived in this paper generalizes those given in the literature. A case study is introduced to illustrate how the idea of this work can be applied.

An $\alpha$-amylase (EC 3.2.1.1) was purified that catalyses the production of a high level of maltose from starch without the attendant production of glucose. The enzyme was produced extracellularly by thermophilic Streptomyces sp. that was isolated from Thailand's soil. Purification was achieved by alcohol precipiation, DEAE-Cellulose, and Gel filtration chromatographies. The purified enzyme exhibited maximum activity at pH 6-7 and $60^{\circ}C$. It had a relative molecular mass of 45 kDa, as determined by SDS-PAGE. The hydrolysis products from starch had $\alpha$-anomeric forms, as determined by $^1H$-NMR. This maltose-forming $\alpha$-amylase completely hydrolyzed the soluble starch to produce a high level of maltose, representing up to 90%. It hydrolyzed maltotetrose and maltotriose to primarily produce maltose (82% and 62%, repectively) without the attendant production of glucose. The high maltose level as a final end-product from starch and maltooligosaccharides, and the unique action pattern of this enzyme, indicate an unusual maltose-forming system. After the addition of the enzyme in the bread-baking process, the bread's volume increased and kept its softness longer than when the bread had no enzyme.
