• Mechanical and durability properties of concrete incorporating glass and plastic waste

        Abdelli, Houssam Eddine,Mokrani, Larbi,Kennouche, Salim,Aguiar, J.L. Barroso de Techno-Press 2021 Advances in concrete construction Vol.11 No.2

The main objective of this work is to contribute to the valorization of plastic and glass waste in the improvement of concrete properties. Waste glass after grinding was used as a partial replacement of the cement with a percentage of 15%. The plastic waste was cut and introduced as fibers with 1% by the total volume of the mixture. Mechanical and durability tests were conducted for various mixtures of concrete as compressive and flexural strengths, water absorption, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and acid attack. Also, other in-depth analyses were performed on samples of each variant such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (DSC-TGA), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results show that the addition of glass powder or plastic fibers or a combination of both in concrete improved in the compression and flexural strengths in the long term. The highest compressive strength was obtained in the mix which combines the two wastes about 26.72% of increase compared to the control concrete. The flexural strength increased in the mixture containing the glass powder. Therefore, the mixture with two wastes exhibits better resistance to aggressive sulfuric acid attack, and incorporating glass powder improves the ultrasonic pulse velocity.

      • Control of Parallelable Three-Phase Four-Wire Active Power Filter

        Y. Abdelli,M. Machmoum,L.Loron 전력전자학회 2004 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-

In this paper, parallelable three-phase four wire shunt active power filter (PAPF) is used to compensate current harmonics imbalance, fundamental reactive power, neutral current and enables charging battery. The PAPF consist on association in cascade of
two PWM voltage source inverters implemented with appropriate GTO’s and IGBT’s switches. Each module is dedicated to take car of a specific current harmonic. The first PWM-VSI near to the load is based on a threeleg voltage source inverter with split DC link capacitors to provided the neutral current while the second inverter consist of four bridge legs. Three legs form the line side
converter however the fourth bridge leg is used as a DCDC converter for the battery side. A pq algorithm associated with resonant current control loops (RCC) are successfully used to control the active power filters. The RCC uses a high dynamic feedback loop with analogy components. For the both, the same voltage IP controller is used to regulate the DC capacitor voltages. Simulated waveforms are presented with 6KVA power load to demonstrate the effectiveness and the performances of the compensation for the proposed configuration . The Power System Blokset (PSB Matlab)
is used to modelled the complete system.

      • A Formal Approach for an Environment-aware Verification of the Consistency of a Multimedia Presentation

Abdelkrim Abdelli 보안공학연구지원센터 2009 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.4 No.2

We propose in this paper a formal methodology that makes it possible to check whether a multimedia presentation could behave consistently when it is processed in a resource-limited environment. The approach uses the TSPN model to specify the resource constraints of the environment as well as the time and the synchronization requirements of the presentation. A graph is then built from this specification to check over its consistency. Hence it becomes possible to manage more efficiently the resource availability, and to adapt the content of the presentation so that the latter can be performed consistently under the given environment constraints.

Growth, photosynthesis and water relations as affected by different drought regimes and subsequent recovery in Medicago laciniata (L.) populations

        Nasreddine Yousfi,Ncib Sihem,Amari Ramzi,Chedly Abdelly 한국식물학회 2016 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.59 No.1

The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of water deficit and recovery on growth, photosynthesis and water relations in four Medicago laciniata populations from saharian (Ml-90), inferior arid (Ml-204), superior arid (Ml-306) and semi-arid (Ml-376) Tunisian regions. After 28 d of sowing with ample irrigation, the plants were subjected to 4 water regimes: optimal irrigation (100% of field capacity, FC), moderate drought (75% FC), severe drought (35% FC) and rewatering (plants submitted to 35% FC during 7 d, afterwards the plants were rewatered to 100% FC). Harvest was carried out after 28 d of treatments. The drought tolerance in M. laciniata populations was found to be increased particularly with increasing temperatures of collection site of the population. The Ml-204 and Ml-90 populations used mainly physiological strategies for survival under moderate water shortage. Higher severe drought tolerance in both signaled populations would be related to their lower photosynthesis metabolic impairment, relatively higher leaf RWC and greater osmotic potential decrease. The results suggest that plants with low values of leaf features are likely to maintain higher leaf RWC under sever drought. The largest decrease of osmotic potential was found associated with the solute accumulations such as proline and K+.

Formal Modeling and Verification of an Enhanced Variant of the IEEE 802.11 CSMA/CA Protocol

Hammal, Youcef,Ben-Othman, Jalel,Mokdad, Lynda,Abdelli, Abdelkrim The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2014 Journal of communications and networks Vol.16 No.4

In this paper, we present a formal method for modeling and checking an enhanced version of the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance protocol related to the IEEE 802.11 MAC layer, which has been proposed as the standard protocol for wireless local area networks. We deal mainly with the distributed coordination function (DCF) procedure of this protocol throughout a sequence of transformation steps. First, we use the unified modeling language state machines to thoroughly capture the behavior of wireless stations implementing a DCF, and then translate them into the input language of the UPPAAL model checking tool, which is a network of communicating timed automata. Finally, we proceed by checking of some of the safety and liveness properties, such as deadlock-freedom, using this tool.

Histochemical Localization of Essential Oils and Bioactive Substances in the Seed Coat of the Halophyte Crithmum maritimum L. (Apiaceae)

        Abdallah Atia,Ahmed Debez,Zouhaier Barhoumi,Chedly Abdelly,Abderrazak Smaoui 한국식물학회 2009 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.52 No.5

Despite seeds and fruits of several halophytes being rich in essential oils and other bioactive substances, the histochemical characterization of these compounds has not received much attention. The aims of the present investigation were to localize the essential oils and the bioactive substances in the seed coat of the oilseed halophyte Crithmum maritimum L. Fruits were collected from the rocky coasts of Tabarka (NW of Tunisia, 36°57′ 12″ N, 08°45′18″ E). C. maritimum L. seed is shown to be surrounded by two envelopes: The first structure is a secretory envelope, consisting in about 20 canals. The second layer represents the endocarp. As revealed by fluorescence and light microscopy, the essential oils, O-dihydroxyphenols and flavonoids, known as bioactive compounds, were accumulated in the canals. The endocarp layer accumulated polysaccharides, O-dihydroxyphenols, and flavonoids. As a whole, these findings highlight the histochemical features and confirm the valuable quality of C. maritimum L. seeds.

Formal Modeling of Greedy Nodes in 802.15.4 WSN

Hammal, Youcef,Ben-Othman, Jalel,Mokdad, Lynda,Abdelli, Abdelkrim The Korean Institute of Communications and Informa 2015 ICT Express Vol.1 No.1

This paper deals with formal specification of the non-slotted CSMA/CA protocol in wireless sensor networks(WSN) whose some nodes own a greedy behavior. This protocol requires sensor nodes to wait some time before initiating a transmission, whereas greedy nodes may try to reduce their waiting duration, which may penalize other nodes. To analyze their impact on WSN mode in operation, we use timed automata of the model-checker UPPAAL to capture the abstract behavior of communication medium, sane, and greedy nodes in WSN. This enables the use of analysis tools to check whether these models satisfy intended properties.

Root Proliferation, Proton Efflux, and Acid Phosphatase Activity in Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) Under Phosphorus Shortage

        Saber Kouas,Ahmed Debez,Tarek Slatni,Nahla Labidi,Jean Jacques Drevon,Chedly Abdelly 한국식물학회 2009 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.52 No.5

The impact of phosphorus (P) availability on root proliferation, proton efflux, and acid phosphatase activities in roots and leaves was investigated in two lines of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris): BAT 477 and CocoT. Phosphorus was supplied as KH2PO4 at 0 and 60μmol per plant (0P and 60P, respectively). Under P shortage, the plant growth was more restricted in CocoT than in BAT 477, shoots being more affected than roots. The root area increased significantly at 0P in both lines. Up to 1 week following P shortage, the proton efflux increased in both lines despite a higher extent in BAT 477 as compared to CocoT. Root acid phosphatase activity was significantly higher under P limitation in the both lines, this trend being more pronounced in BAT 477 than in CocoT. This was also true for the leaf acid phosphatase. Regardless of the bean line, higher values were recorded for the old leaves as compared to the young ones for this parameter. Interestingly, a significant correlation between Pi content in old leaves and their acid phosphatase activity was found in P-lacking (0P) plants of the both bean lines, suggesting that acid phosphatase may contribute to increase the phosphorus use efficiency in bean through the P remobilization from the old leaves. As a whole, our results highlight the significance of the root H+ extrusion and the acid phosphatase activity rather than the root proliferation in the relative tolerance of BAT 477 to severe P deficiency.
