Bench scale study is carried out for oil soot and coal fly ash collection in electrostatic precipitator(ESP). Oil soot particle is very important air pollutant from oil or gas-fired combustion boiler. One of the important points of oil soot particle in an ESP is the submicron and/or very low resistivity dust problem such as corona quenching and re-entrainment, which decrease collection efficiency severely. In order to increase the collection efficiency of oil soot particle, we modified the discharge electrode array. Suitable choice of discharge electrode array generated high corona current density and high electric field intensity thus increased collection efficiency without increasing power consumption for oil soot particle.

A new vacuum cleaner nozzle, was specially designed for beds, sofas, and blanket cleaning, is developed and performance test is carried out. Dust removal efficiency tests were conducted by measuring the residual mass fraction of the dust remained at the cloth surface with cleaning time. As the test dusts, the wheat flour and milk powder were used. The residual mass fraction was estimated by elimination of the amount of removed dust from the initial surface dust. The amount of dust removed was derived by measuring dust concentration inside the suction tube, which is proportional to the intensity of light scattering by particles while the vacuum cleaner system is being operated in a test condition. Allergen removal effect was also estimated by checking the variation of allergen concentration in a domestic home with cleaning rate. Allergen concentration was analyzed by the ELISA reaction. To enhance the reliability of this test method, automated test equipment and data acquisition system were used. From these tests, the developed vacuum cleaner nozzle was superior for cleaning cloth, blankets, and beds, and providing the allergen removal effect.
