Torque converter in automatic transmission transfers the engine power to transmisson by ATF and lock-up clutch. The lock-up clutch connects the engine torque directly to transmission. At this moment, the relative rotational speed difference between engine and transmission, so the impact may occur. Because of this resistance and durability are required. In an effort to compensate for the impact of mechanical stopper is applied. The shape of the mechanical stopper affects the stress distribution of lock-up clutch. In this work, Using Dynamic Analysis of stress distribution on the shape of the mechanical stopper and safety confirmed, and studied its optimal shape.

The current automotive market, competition for the development of a hybrid car is accelerating. Due to stricter environmental regulations and development of alternative energy vehicles is required. Hybrid vehicles significantly reduce fuel consumption and harmful gas emissions. In hybrid vehicle system, torsion damper makes the powertrain system stabilized by reducing the fluctuation torque of various engine system when the engine using. Torsion damper structure in the present study sensor wheel and ring gear is manufactured by welding. At this time, the temperature will rise temporarily when combined torsion damper welded. Due to the temperature rise, it is important to design the thermal deformation of the torsion damper internal parts and does not exceed the allowable temperature. In this work, the torsion damper thermal deformation and thermal stress analysis was used for ANSYS.

Torque converter in automatic transmission transfers the engine power to transmission by ATF. A Torque converter consists of the hydrodynamic clutch device and the lock-up clutch device. The retaining plate and driven plate are part of the lock-up clutch. Lock-up clutch transfers the engine torque directly to autotransmission. So it must have resistance and durability. In this study, we found the effect from Shape of mechanical stopper on retaining plate. The shpe of mechanical stopper has effect on the stress distribution of lock-up clutch.

Almost automatic transmission based on plantetary gear set use the torque converter as a starting device due to high power density and comfortable, vibration-decoupling torque transmission. But, the most disadvantage of the hydrodynamic starting device is low fuel efficiency. The torque converter in its modern design with lockup clutch and despite more and more improvements requires radial and axial installation space between the engine and the transmission. But, it is impossible to use big size converter because of limit area for starting device. The newly introduced the starting device with multi-plates is able to use to the stepped automatic transmission. This wet start clutch can achieve compact size due to no hydraulic elements, only have multi-plate clutch and damper system. The most innovative design for this starting device is the self-induced cooling concept. The single side plates with radial slots and reliefs in the steel support on the external and internal providing oil flow paths to cooling around the friction material which was heated by high slip speed. To endure extremely slip condition, it needs to optimize the shape of the oil flow path on the friction plates to increase cooling flow rate. This paper describes the optimization of oil path on friction plate by using CFD software to increase oil flow rate through the friction lining.

New torque converter clutch works at low speed area for high fuel efficiency. This trend caused heat problem of friction material in lock-up clutch. Heat may cause the damage of friction material. Friction material require cooling flow rate for guarantee of material life. In order to improve cooling, Torque converter adapted the system by introducing the cooling hole in lock-up piston. However cooling hole causes torque drop because the oil flow for cooling lowers the pressure in the clutch piston. Torque converter designers should consider proper flow rate and torque for engine. Therefore the torque and hole size estimation is required for the early stage of torque converter design. Estimation equation was derived based on the physical background such as the centrifugal force, sudden expansion, sudden contraction and Bernoulli’s equation.

More than five auxiliary engines such as crankshaft, water pump, fan, air conditioning, power steering pump are equipped with an automobile and as a medium to drive them pulley is used Although the shape of pulley is simple, structure analysis is important when we design a pulley Because if pulleys are equipped in an engine only once, durability should be ensured until a junked car and according to thickness and shape stress of pulleys are affected. So in this study, we suggested optimizating design process and methodology of pulley using structure and fatigue analysis considering decreasing rate of cross section occurring in press process, shape and material thickness of pulley.

Torque Converter Lock Up Clutch for Auto Transmission makes Engine and Transmission connected directly. In order to reduce the fluctuational torque of engine when Lock up clutch is operated, a Long Travel Damper can be mounted to the Lock up clutch. This research is focused on the Stress of Retaining plate of Long Travel Damper clutch with using the simulation program, Algor and further, is on the purpose to decide the optimal damper specification in advance.

This paper presents the noise analysis technique and the radiation sound improve method for the torque converter of auto transmission vehicles, and the experiment of radiation sound measurement proves the method to be adequate. The ambient noise of the torque converter is not the form of the resonance coming from a specific rotational frequency. but reaction to frequency ingredient sensitively to appear the Order line. This article analyzes the occurrence factor of the ambient noise and proves that the ambient noise of the torque converter depends on numbers of the impeller blades. This paper proves that the ambient noise is reduced after increasing the number of blades, and presents the adequacy of this method.

To improve vehicle performance, development of the torque converter matching to advanced engine performance is essential. The improvement of the torque converter’s performance could be optimized by modifying geometry of 3 elements of the torque converter. The impeller and turbine of automotive torque converters are usually made of stamped sheet metal parts. Any geometry modification of the impeller or turbine would be very expensive because of tooling cost. In contrast, the stator is usually made of aluminum die-casting. Torque converter modifications are limited to the stator only in order to reduce the manufacturing cost. By the Computational Fluid Dynamics, the variation of stator shapes were analyzed and designed. To verify the accuracy of CFD, performance test was done with samples. In comparison of analysis with test result, both shows similar pattern through overall speed ratio.
