Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the influencing factors of perceived stress and mental health among army soldiers. Methods: The data were collected from the 288 soldiers, of in two military units located in Gangwon and Kyonggi province from September 7, 2010, for 11 days. The instruments were Symptom Check List-90-Revision, Stress in military life scale, Social support scale, Self-Efficacy Scale and Dysfunctional Attitude Scale-A. The data were analyzed using Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and Multiple linear regression. Results: The average values of perceived stress and mental health were approximately 2.43 and 28.70, respectively. Emotional support, support from officers and noncommissioned officers, general self-efficacy and dysfunctional belief accounted for 22% and 24% of the variance in perceived stress. Also the work, the external military and the environmental stress factors affected the mental health; and, consequently demonstrated 35% of the variance in mental health. Conclusion: Stress management strategies dealing with such causes as the work, the external military and the environment should be developed to prevent and reduce army soldiers` problem with mental health. Also, cognitive behavioral nursing intervention for efficient stress management should be created to offer social support, to increase general self-efficacy and to change dysfunctional belief.

Purpose : This study was designed to examine characteristics of tinnitus handicap of solider patients and to confirm the relationship between victims of tinnitus`s mental health problems and the handicap caused by tinnitus. Methods : The data were collected from 233 discharged soldiers, and 114 activeduty soldiers diagnosed with tinnitus and treated as outpatients Armed Forces Hospital from March 2012, for 6 Months. The instruments were Tinnitus Handicap Inventory, The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation. The data were analyzed using Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, t-test and ANOVA. Results : Average THI score was 68.24 and 68.5% reported high severity grades with THI score. Average depression score, sleep disorder score and suicidal ideation score was 33.93, 9.03 and 4.17, respectively. Positive correlations between THI and depression(r=0.679), THI and sleep disorder(r=.466), THI and suicide ideation(r=.438) were demonstrated. Conclusion : The study recognizes that tinnitus and depression are not in a unilateral relationship; instead, they are in a strong correlational relationship. Study confirms that as the period of a person suffering from tinnitus increases, psychological, social effects and conflicts with other family members also increase, which may lead patients into depressed mental conditions. Depression disturbs patients from adapting to the tinnitus conditions, and may even lead to suicidal ideation.
