This paper deals with analytical prediction for the cogging torque of permanent magnet machines with multi-pole rotor. First, open-circuit field solutions are derived using a magnetic vector potential and a two-dimensional (2-d) polar coordinate systems. On the basis of derived open-circuit field solutions and 2-d permeance functions. we also derive the analytical solutions for the open-circuit field considering stator slotting effects and cogging torque. All analytical results are shown in good agreement with those obtained from finite element (FE) analyses.

The rotational loss is one of the most important problems for the practical applications of PM synchronous motor/generator. This paper deals with the analysis on eddy current losses of permanent magnet synchronous motor with two sleeves rotor. This paper presents analytical procedures for calculation of the eddy current losses using Poynting theorem. In order to calculate eddy current, this paper derives analytical solutions by the magnetic vector potential, and a two-dimentional (2-D) cylindrical coordinate system, and analytical result with eddy current density obtained from space harmonic method, and compare result of finite element method (FEM).

This paper deals with control parameters deduction and dynamic analysis of hybrid thrust magnetic bearing(HTMB). The flux density at air-gap is obtained from system modeling which considers permanent magnet and electro magnet. The vertical force is derived from flux density using maxwell's stress tensor. An accurate linear model is obtained by using linear approximations of the attraction force around the nominal equilibrium point. The dynamic simulation of the HTMB using the PD controller is conducted and control parameters are deducted.

This paper deals with design and analysis of thrust magnetic bearing for 300HP class high speed motor. Using the solutions obtained from equivalent magnetic circuits, we predicts the electromagnetic characteristics such as thrust, time constant and power loss according to design parameters. And then, using non-linear finite element analysis, a detailed design is performed considering saturation in order to meet requirements.
