The new polymer, poly[1-(5-(4,8-bis(4-chloro-5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)-6-methylbenzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophen-2-yl)-4-fluorothiophen-2-yl)-5,7-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-3-(4-fluoro-5-methylthiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2-c:4,5-c′]dithiophene-4,8-dione] comprising PFBDB–TCl–(EH) was designed and synthesized for fabrication of non-fullerene organic solar cells application. The PFBDB–TCl–(EH) was synthesized by Stille polymerization. PFBDB–TCl–(EH) blended with IT-4F and Y7 exhibited an efficiency of 5.03% and 9.10%. By contrast, PFBDB–TCl–(EH):SiCl–BDT:Y7-based ternary device exhibited best efficiency of 15.10%, open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.83 V, a short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 27.68 mA/cm2, and fill factor (FF) of 65.25%, respectively. This results indicated the PFBDB–TCl–(EH) exhibited excellent compatibility with the host blend SiCl–BDT:Y7 and tended to enhance miscibility and formed cascade energy levels.
