지배디자인 형성의 새로운 형태에 관한 연구 - 긴꼬리를 가진 역U자 곡선의 전환형 신산업 사례를 중심으로 –

기술 혁신 연구에서 지배디자인 연구는 진화경제학 연구의 오랜 주제가 되어 오고 있습니다. 그 이유인 즉, 새로운 혁신적 제품이 시장에서 지배적 위치를 차지하는 과정과 형태는 시장에서 제품 및 공정혁신의 구체적 양상을 결정하는 실재적 특성을 보여주기 때문입니다. 그런데 Dosi, Nelson등이 주도한 지배디자인 연구는 진공관 개발, 새로운 2벌식 타자기 개발, 내연기관 엔진 자동차 개발, 트렌지스터 개발 등 1970-80년대까지의 3차 산업혁명 이슈에 집중되어 있었습니다. 하지만, 4차 산업혁명의 출현으로 전 산업이 IT화 하는 상황에서의 지배디자인 연구는 기존 연구와 전혀 다른 특성과 양상으로 나타날 것으로 예측됩니다. 본 연구는 “전환형 신산업인 전기 자전거 산업의 지배디자인 형성은 기존의 신규 출현형 신산업의 그것과 어떻게 다른가?”하는 질문에 답하고자 합니다. 본 연구는 한국, 일본, 이태리의 전기자전거 산업의 지배디자인에 대한 실증분석을 통해서 전환형 신산업의 지배대자인 특성이 긴꼬리를 가진 역 U자형임을 규명하였습니다. After passing more than 100 years from the emergence of the dominant design of the traditional bicycle, diverse electronic bicycles are appearing as a kind of destructive innovation in the bicycle industry. We want to answer two questions: 1) How is the electronic bicycle evolving and what is its dominant design? 2) What is the difference in the evolution and appearance of the dominant design of the electronic bicycles in Daegu, Naples and Nagoya? We conducted a case study of three cities, Naples, Nagoya and Daegu, using the participatory observation and intensive interview methods. According to our research, the three cities are located at different points on the dominant design curve with different ratios of electronic bicycles to total bicycles. Naples is in the step of BM-based new market creation, with the fat-tire electronic bicycle as the most popular type of electronic bicycle. Daegu is in the step of technology-based new market creation, with the electronic quick board as the primary type of electronic bicycle. Finally, Nagoya is undergoing technology-based existing market expansion with the electronic bicycle design, which is the same as the dominant traditional bicycle design.
