The necessity of computerizing the Central National Library of Korea has been widely recognized. The purpose of this research is to develop Korean Machine Readable Cataloging system as a first step toward an integrated library system and suggests the ways of utilizing the MARC file in Korean libraries as well as in the Central National Library. In this paper the following studies are included: 1. An analysis of the functions and current procedures of the Central National Library 2. Development of a standard record format for KOR MARC 3. Production and utilization of KOR MARC files 4. Identification of problems in developing KOR MARC system In conclusion, the following recommendations are made: 1. Standardization of the internal code and input/output equipments should be proceded for hangul and chinese data processing. 2. The libraries planning or having accomplished computerization process should be cooperative in standardizing and distributing bibliographic data bases including KOR MARC tapes. 3. Training of competent librarians and strong support from the government are required for a successful implementation of the Library's computerization project.

Information storage and retrieval is a part of general communication process. In the Shannon's information theory, information contained in a message is a measure of -uncertainty about information source and the amount of information is measured by entropy. Indexing is a process of reducing entropy of information source since document collection is divided into many smaller groups according to the subjects documents deal with. Significant concepts contained in every document are mapped into the set of all sets of index terms. Thus index itself is formed by paired sets of index terms and documents. Without indexing the entropy of document collection consisting of N documents is $log_2\;N$, whereas the average entropy of smaller groups $(W_1,\;W_2,...W_m)$ is as small $(as\;(\sum\limits^m_{i=1}\;H(W_i))/m$. Retrieval efficiency is a measure of information system's performance, which is largely affected by goodness of index. If all and only documents evaluated relevant to user's query can be retrieved, the information system is said $100\%$ efficient. Document file W may be potentially classified into two sets of relevant documents and non-relevant documents to a specific query. After retrieval, the document file W' is reclassified into four sets of relevant-retrieved, relevant-not retrieved, non-relevant-retrieved and non-relevant-not retrieved. It is shown in the paper that the difference in two entropies of document file Wand document file W' is a proper measure of retrieval efficiency.

Z39.50 확장서비스를 이용한 도서관 상호대차 요청 시스템의 구현

이 연구에서는 타 도서관의 목록 데이터베이스를 탐색한 후 바로 원하는 자료를 요청할 수 있는 이용자 주도형 상호대차 모형을 제시하고, Z39.50 자료주문 확장서비스를 이용하는 상호대차 요청시스템을 구현하였다. 이 모형에서 이용자의 상호대차 요청은 Z39.50 확장서비스 요청 PDU를 통해 소속도서관으로 전달되며, 소속도서관과 자료의 소장도서관 사이의 상호대차 트랜잭션은 ILL 프로토콜을 이용하여 처리된다. 자료주문 확장서비스 요청 PDU의 파라미터로 ILL-REQUEST PDU를 포함시킴으로써 Z39.50 확장서비스와 ILL 프로토콜을 사용하는 두 단계의 요청과정을 효과적으로 연결할 수 있다. In this study, an ILL request system was implemented using Z39.50 item order extended service. ILL requests in this system are initiated by users through a gateway acting as a Z39.50 origin for searching remote catalog databases. When users initiate a request while searching OPACs of other libraries, an extended service request PDU for item order is first sent to the home library which subsequently generates an ILL protocol message to be sent to the target library. This approach enables users to request an item online while searching. and at the same time allows the home library to retain control over the ILL transaction.

필터링 기법을 이용한 도서 추천 시스템 구축

이 연구에서는 최근에 주목받고 있는 협업 필터링 기법을 중심으로 여러 가지 추천 기법을 살펴본 후 대출대상 도서의 추천 시스템을 구축하였다. 연관성 규칙 기반 기법, 협업 필터링 기법, 내용기반 필터링 기법을 응용하여 실제 대학도서관에서 특정 이용자가 대출할 만한 도서를 추천하는 시스템을 구현하고 각 기법의 추천 성능을 평가하였다. 실험 결과 대출대상 도서를 추천하는 데 있어 협업 필터링 기법과 내용기반 필터링 기법을 각각 따로 적용하는 것보다 두 기법을 함께 이용한 혼합형 필터링 추천 기법이 더욱 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. This study examined several recommendation techniques to construct an effective book recommender system in a library. Experiments revealed that a hybrid recommendation technique is more effective than either collaborative filtering or content-based filtering technique in recommending books to be borrowed in an academic library setting. The recommendation technique based on association rule turned out the lowest in performance.

도서관$\cdot$정보학에서의 인공지능의 응용에 관한 고찰

In this paper, artificial intelligence applications in library and information science are reviewed. Especially, natural language processing and expert systems are represented as the two major application areas. In natural language processing, natural language interface systems and .question-answering systems are discussed in detail with some specific examples. In the second part of the paper, online search intermidiary systems, reference expert systems, classification and cataloging expert systems are described as possible expert systems to be developed in libraries and information systems. As a conclusion, implications of the artificial intelligence applications for librarians and information scientists are suggested.

우리말 신문기사 검색을 위한 질문응답시스템 구현에 관한 연구

이 연구에서 구현한 질문응답시스템은 한글 자연어로 된 텍스트와 질문을 자동으로 처리하는 지능형 정보시스템이다. 입력데이타는 스포츠관계 기사로 국한하였으며 프로그래밍 언어로는 코볼을 사용하였다. 이 시스템의 구문분석기는 격문법에 기초한 것으로서 어휘사전, 용언의 격프레임, 언어학적 규칙 등을 사용하여 문장을 분석한다. 본문검색과 사실검색이 모두 가능한 이 시스템에서는 질문에 대한 해답이 문장형태이거나 사실데이타 형태로 출력된다. This paper describes a question-answering system that can automatically analyze input texts and questions in Korean natural language. The particular texts used for the research were newspaper articles in the specific domain of sports news. The system consists of a set of Cobol programs and an associated set of data files containing lexicon, case grammar, linguistic rules. and data base. This system employs two retrieval functions of fact retrieval and passage retrieval. Therefore input questions can be answered in forms of either sentence or factual data.

N/A Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate mental health status, burden and quality of life(QOL) of mothers with handicapped children. Method: Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from September to November, 2002. The subjects consisted of 65 mothers who live in D and I city. The instrument was utilized SCL-90-R, subjective and objective burden scale and QOL scale. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS program including descriptive statistics, Pearson Correlation Coefficient. Results: In the level of SCL-90-R, the mean score was 1.0642 of `depression` and 1.009 of `obsessive-compulsive`. It is that the mothers with handicapped children have mild mental health symptoms. The mean score of burden was 2.95 and it of QOL was 3.14. Burden was positive correlation with mental health status, its 9 subfactors and additional items, and negative correlation with QOL and its 6 subfactors. Also mental health status was negative correlation with QOL. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop supportive psychotherapy program for decreasing potential or actual psychologic problem in mothers with handicapped children. This study suggests that it will be done longitudinal study on emotional problem and adaptation process of parents by growth and development of handicapped children, and research on supportive program development and its effects.
