To increase the power and torque of the vehicle engine, mount the turbocharger using the exhaust gas discharge pressure. In this system, the air cooled type charge air cooler(ACAC) is required to efficiently cool temperature rise in the process of compressing outside air. In this study, the performance factors of the air cooled type charge air cooler(ACAC) were analysed experimentally. And depending on the vehicle mounting position, SBS and Brick types were selected for the test. Our study analyzed the effects of factors affecting performance, such as offset rate and fin bonding ratio. The heat rejection and cooling air pressure drop by offset ratio and fin bonding ratio respectively did not affect up to 90%. However, the design should be considered as it affects the durability aspects of the fin bonding factor. In addition, heat rejection by offset ratio depends on the sample specification, but there is a possibility that 30-50% is appropriate.

In the LP EGR system, acidic condensate is formed on the inner surface of the intercooler. It was reported that acetic acid, formic acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and the like were detected in this condensate. In order to increase the corrosion resistance of intercoolers to the acidic environment, the 5-layer clad material was examined instead of the existing 3-layer clad materials. The 5-layer clad material is a multilayer clad material having a sacrificial layer between the filler alloy layer for brazing and the core alloy. In particular, we wanted to compare the corrosion resistance characteristics according to the difference in composition of the alloy constituting the sacrificial layer. In this study, the pressure resistance and corrosion resistance assessment were performed which is generally selected for development of intercoolers. And corrosion resistance to acidic environments was evaluated using solutions of the VDA K3.2 standard. This test method was proposed by VDA for evaluating corrosion characteristics of condensate generated in the LPEGR system. The 5-layer clad materials met the general requirements for pressure and corrosion characteristics of the intercooler. In addition, the 5-layer clad materials were shown significant characteristics under the acid corrosion test than the 3-layer clad material, and the corrosion life of the intercooler is expected to increase in the LP EGR system.

The cooling module needs enough space (or distance) from hood to absorb the energy from any pedestrian collision. Downsized cooling module for pedestrian protection is important to reduce the severity of pedestrian injury. When a vehicle collision happens, the downsized cooling module is required to reduce the risk of injury to the upper legs of adults and the heads of children. In this study, the performance of cooling module to cool the engine was investigated under 25% height reduction. The heat dissipation and pressure drop characteristics have been experimentally studied with the variation of coolant flow rate, air inlet velocity and A/C operation ON/OFF for the downsized cooling module. The results indicated that the cooling performance was about 94% level compared to that of the conventional cooling module. Therefore, we checked that the cooling module had good performance, and expected that the cooling module could meet the same cooling performance as conventional cooling module through optimization of components efficiency.
