본 연구의 목적은 ERP 패키지를 대상으로 ERP 패키지 기능과 기업의 요구 사항 사이에 차이(Gap)가 발생했을 때, 이를 해결하기 위해 고려해야 할 요소들을 제시하고 이 요소들을 활용하는 가이드라인을 제시하는 것이다. 본 연구는 사례연구를 통해 ERP 패키지 기능과 도입 기업의 요구 사항 사이에 차이가 발생하면 차이가 발생한 수준, 차이의 크기, 차이가 발생한 기능의 업무상 중요성, 다른 모듈/기능과의 통합성, ERP 패키지 개발 기술력, 비용 등을 순차적으로 고려하여 커스터마이징 방법을 결정한다는 것을 알아냈다. 이 때 커스터마이징 방법으로는 기존 시스템과 ERP 패키지 연동, 추가 개발, 새로 개발 등이 있다. 커스터마이징 방법 중에는 ERP 프로그램 소스코드 및 데이터베이스를 수정하는 방법도 있으나 이 방법은 유지 보수의 어려움, 버전 업그레이드의 어려움 때문에 선택되는 경우가 드물었다. The innovative progress in Information Technology and the formidable competitions have been making many companies to introduce ERP systems, CRM systems, SCM systems and so on. These information systems are being adopted in the form of the packaged software rather than the custom development. A common problem when adopting packaged software has been the issue of gaps between the functionality offered by the package and that required by the adopting organization. As a result, organizations have had to resolve these gaps to take the full advantages of packaged software. ERP systems have the characteristics of packaged software. This research investigated the gap resolution strategies and the factors that are considered when choosing a resolution strategy. To reveal how the gap resolution strategy is chosen, a multiple case study was conducted on the 4 big companies in South Korea. This study revealed five gap resolution strategies were used to resolve the gap between ERP systems` function and the organization requirements - The use of legacy system, add on development, new development, BPR, modification. The level of the gap, the size of the gap, the importance of the function with gap, the extent of the integration with other modules or functions, the knowledge on the ERP systems development language, and the cost of implementation were considered when choosing the gap resolution strategy. These factors were taken into consideration in sequence rather than in a simultaneous order, forming the decision tree for the gap resolution strategy choice.
