Noise contribution of major participating components to the operating noise from the automotive power seat sliding motion is analyzed based on the measured data. Power seat sliding is initiated by the slide motor and transmitted to flexible shaft and gear mechanism in the lead screw/nut along the slide rail, however, there have been concerns on what is the main source of noise and how much individual components contribute to the overall noise. In the present study, operation noise were measured for three different conditions, that is, for an unloaded motor, unloaded assembled seat and finally for a loaded assembled seat. Then peak frequencies are identified and related with the harmonic components of each characteristics including motor revolution and the related gear ratios already identified. Necessary conversion process from log-scale sound presure level(dB) to physical pressure level is applied to give a quantitative linear contribution to the overall total pressure level. Out of the present analysis results it could be identified that the harmonics of gear characteristics are the dominant contributors to the overall noise level when the power seat is sliding under loaded condition.

Effective use of available energy sources is of general concern along with the issues of global warming and unstable oil price. As one of the effort to recover waste heat from industrial facilities effectively, researchers have interest in a technology called organic Rankine cycle(ORC), in which the working fluid is some organic liquid instead of water. Known to have poor efficiency already, this old technology is considered to give an innovative solution to utilizing low grade energy sources, by improving the efficiency. Nano fluidics, coatings and the use of additives are the examples of these efforts. In the present study, we present simulated performance of a horizontal tube type condenser geometry. N-hexanr and isopentane are compared to water vapor case under 1 atm and the inet cooling water temperature of 20℃. EES(Engineering Equations Solver) is used for the present work.

Cross flow fan system is widely used for various applications, especially for the air-moving device of heaters, air-conditioners, and air-curtains. Although there are efforts for the optimization of cross-flow fan flow path with different methods of approach, it is still being investigated by many researchers through experimentally and/or theoretically, because the flow pattern of the cross flow fan is not stereotyped. This paper presents some results from numerical experiments for the optimization of the flow path through a cross-flow fan to be applied to indoor wall-mounted room heater. Two dimensional analysis has been applied to a specific fan system including inlet and diffuser outlet. Flow characteristics are presented and discussed for two different flow path at three different operating conditions represented by rotational speed(800, 1,000, 1,200 rpm) of the fan. According to the simulated results for the specific fan system under consideration, it could be found that the flow pattern resembles each other at different rotational speed (to say from 800 rpm to 1,200 rpm) for a fixed flow path, while the secondary flows mostly absorbs the speed effects. By changing the flow path significant increase in volume flow rate is estimated upto 2.65 at the same rotational speed. According to the present experience, fan flow path design can be performed more efficiently by incorporating this type of numerical experiments combined with the model tests.

In the present study, we performed the measurement and analysis of VOCs and Formaldehyde arising from the automobile interior components such as driver air bag(DAB) covers. The VOCs(volatile organic compounds), which is known to be responsible for so called new house/car syndrome, are controlled on the international and domestic bases. Especially for automobile parts, the remitted level of VOCs from individual products should meet the requirements set by the car manufacturers. We tried to evaluate the credibility of the measured VOC data, which is important for the products to be accepted by the car manufacturers. Focusing on the DAB covers fron K.D. Corporation, the measured data are presented and compared for validation.
