Korean traditional classical music is the type of music unique to Korea, which differs from Western music. While each community has built and managed national Korean traditional classical music performance halls since the 1990s, it has often been doubted if they have secured acoustic performance appropriate for Korean traditional classical music performance. The failure to determine the acoustic characteristics and specifications accurately in designing, constructing, and remodeling halls exclusively for Korean traditional classical music performance has led to lots of difficulties even at the beginning stage. From this perspective, this study aimed to examine the characteristics of the finished materials and the absorption elements for the stages and the seats for the audience in six Korean traditional classical music performance halls. The data are expected to be useful to build a Korean traditional classical music performance hall appropriate for the Korean situation.

As a technique of generating high frequency to measure and visualize the variation in the signals from each tissue, MRI has recently been highly preferred because it produces accurate results and does no harm to a human body without radiation exposure. However, MRI generates serious noises from the process of coil movement to create a magnetic field and causes serious anxiety among patients having an examination. For this reason, it is necessary to use low-noise MRI with the objective of reducing such MRI operation noises. However, there are lots of limitations in terms of price and operating costs. From this perspective, this study aims to present a plan for reducing MRI operation noises through an agricultural-acoustic approach of changing the finished materials within MRI rooms on the basis of the data from the literature review. The results are expected to be useful in developing measures to reduce MRI operation noises.

Exposed mass concrete is a type of construction with the structure of a building as a finished material and has recently been highly preferred due to the good design and visual effects. However, applying exposed mass concrete to the internal part of a building, not to the external one, can cause excessive reverberation and, consequently, acoustic defects, making communication difficult. In case of a court yard within a building, particularly, dissatisfaction has been generated constantly due to more severe reverberation. From this perspective, this study aimed to make field experiment in a court yard within a building finished with exposed mass concrete to analyze the acoustic characteristics and defects within the court yard. This study is expected to provide useful data that can help secure the optimal acoustic performance in designing and constructing similar buildings.

Exposed mass concrete finishing is one of the most preferred methods because of the outstanding design features and visual effects. The structure of a building itself is the finished material. This method, however, involves acoustic defects: If exposed mass concrete is used not inside but outside the building, the reverberant sound is so excessive that communications become difficult. The preliminary study points out such acoustic defects and problems. Based on its acoustic simulations and the findings of the preliminary study, the present study proposes a way to improve acoustic performance of the courtyard of a building that is finished with exposed mass concrete. It is expected that the results will be useful for designing of courtyards finished with exposed mass concrete.
