As product life cycle becomes less and less every day, having flexible manufacturing processes for any companies seems more demanding. In the assembling of moving part, hemming process is the one which needs more attention. This paper focused on the robot roller hemming process and system for high volume production car body line. A robot roller hemming system of hood is investigated as a case study in this paper. By applying four hemming robots, twin roller hemming head, corner hemming punch and panel location fixture, it has faster cycle times compared to convention method. As the result, it is expected that cell area, manufacturing cost of roller hemming improve as compared to press body hemming.

Recently, the automotive industry is concentrated to realize of car body’s lightweight for improvement of fuel and driving performance efficiency. The automotive makers already were applied to moving part of Door, Hood, Trunk lid to be applying material of aluminum. Therefore it is issue that research and development of aluminum Robot roller hemming method. This study focused on the experiment and investigation of process parameters (hemming pressure, speed, steps) in aluminum roller hemming quality.

In terms of Companies, the flexible manufacturing system has to be built urgently by using minimum investment of time and money for selling the vehicle the vehicle production which consumers want to buy. Material in automotive industry has changed to reduce cost of manufacturing. In that aspect, micro-alloyed steel used for material of crankshaft has substituted quench and tempered steel to have equal quality and result in a drop in cost. The quench and tempered steel is usually treated by heating. But micro-alloyed steel which just add alloying elemnts such as vanadium, boron and so on is applied without overall heat treatment. The surface of crankshaft made with micro-alloyed steel is locally processed by induction hardening. The process can cause a crack on grinded surfaces because of residual tensile stress. Therefore crack inspection is required. Magnetic testing is used manually in line. Magnetic testing is subjective to detect defects. Eddy current(EC) testing use electronic signal automatically and is objective to detect cracks. In this paper, it is estimated that eddy current method is valid.

Nowaday, the increasing global competition put much pressure on increasing the efficiency and quality at all stage in the life cycle of manufacturing systems e.g., (re)design, implementation and operation. To increase efficiency, there is need to minimize the time and cost for development and operation of a manufacturing systems. Therefore, it becomes more and more to important to analysis and test a manufacturing system before a large investment.<br/> In this paper, to apply laser welding to car body welding, we introduce method for generation and group of laser welding stitches and procedure for digital manufacturing and OLP for high efficiency. And, according to these procedures, a digital laser welding cell was implemented using IGRIP and CATIA V5 as an example.

Nowadays, the increasing global competition forces manufacturing enterprises to reduce manufacturing cost and to increase productivity. In case of automotive industries, they interest n digital manufacturing to solve these problem. In this paper, the procedure for implementation of digital assembly system is proposed. First of all, process modeling is executed using requirements obtained through product analysis. To model process, they are used the IDEF0 and UML model which are object oriented programming (OOP). At the same time, components for system configuration are modeled by 3D CAD tool. According to system configuration strategy, alternative solutions for assembly system are generated. Based on the evaluation values obtained, alternative solutions are evaluated and selected by using the TOPSIS. Using these result, assembly system for car side panel is configured with the concept of digital manufacturing, which ensures maximum planning security with visualization and simulation.
