The purpose of this study is to investigate the properties of the AAO nanohoneycomb structure. Especially the Elastic modulus and hardness play important role in determining the mechanical deformation of ceramic materials. The mechanical properties of the AAO nanononeycomb structure were investigated using indentation test.

In this study, the mechanical properties of silicon nitride film are investigated. Freestanding film of silicon nitride is fabricated using the standard micro-machining techniques. Films are deposited onto (100) silicon wafers. Square and rectangular membranes are made by anisotropic etching of the silicon substrates. Finally, mechanical properties of these membranes are measured by the bulge test method. Bulge test is a powerful new technique for measuring the mechanical properties of thin films. A uniform pressure is applied to square and rectangular membranes. Measurement of the membrane deflection as a function of the applied pressure allows one to determine the mechanical properties such as the elastic modulus, and residual stress. Using this method, we investigated the mechanical properties of the silicon nitride membrane. Moreover, we are carrying out the fatigue test to evaluate the fatigue behaviors of silicon nitride.
