The use for driving robots is increasing in tests of electric construction machinery and automotive using chassis dynamometer that require long hours of operation in order for battery SOC tests. Existing driving robots are not very convenient, such as taking a lot of time to install. Therefore, in this study, basic research was conducted for the development of a driving robot that reduced the installation time and improved the followability of the reference speed profile by using deep learning. In order to follow the speed profile of the standard test cycle according to the regulations, a base study that can control the throttle by using the visual information in real time was conducted using a rig device and deep learning. Based on the results of this study, it is planned to conduct follow-up studies using test vehicle and chassis dynamometer in the next stage.

Since emission regulations for vehicles have become more stringent, SCR technology has drawn a strong attention in order to reduce NOx emissions. Optimal design of a reductant injection nozzle and a multi-hole plate located between the cone and catalyst is critical in that the uniform distribution of reductant is necessary to maximize the NOx conversion efficiency and minimize the slip of reductant in SCR. In this work, an LPG fuel(C3H8 in vapor state) was used as a reductant for LPG vehicles. A Realizable k-ε model is used for turbulence, and SCR body is defined as porous media with inertia and viscous resistances measured in this work. Effect of the number of nozzle holes on the flow mixing index was analyzed, which revealed that a four hole nozzle shows the best performance in terms of uniformity of flow. An installment of a multi-hole plate at the entrance of catalyst was evaluated with flow mixing index, uniformity of flow, and pressure drop. A multi-hole plate with gradual hole diameter change in three steps showed the best uniformity of flow within the conditions suggested in this work.

With the growth of the logistics industry, the decrease in skilled manpower, and the increase in labor costs, unmanned and automated logistic equipments are becoming increasingly important. Therefore, the demand for unmanned equipment for unloading and loading pallet cargo in automatic warehouses is also increasing, but it is reported that existing unmanned equipment is expensive and takes time to set up in the initial stage. In order to generate the path and find a location of unmanned equipment using low-cost sensors with low positioning accuracy, the generation of optimal movement path at high speed is import and necessary. In this feasibility study, a low-cost 3D lidar is to be used to measure the position around the equipment, and for the three-wheel drive method, which is widely applied in pallet trucks and reach trucks, the motion equation and the low-accuracy sensor will be used to optimize the motion equation. This work is carried out to generate a driving route at high speed and perform location control of the equipment based on it. An analytic study was conducted for this purpose, and based on the results of this study, an unmanned pallet truck study will be conducted by applying it to actual equipment in the next stage of this work.

The characteristics of spray behavior and injected amount were studied with two types of nozzles for using in a compression ignition engine with dual fuel technology for construction machines. A penetration length of spray tends to shorten due to a decrease of injected amount of a diesel fuel with dual fuel engine application. In order to ignite the gaseous fuel premixed with air during intake process, a diesel fuel, which was compression ignited, needs to penetrate somehow similar depth compared with the case of a diesel fuel-only-injection. In this work, a nozzle with reduced hole diameter and increased number of holes was tested and demonstrated that, compared to diesel 100% case, its penetration lengths are comparable to 74% and 79%, respectively, of those of 100% and 50% supply of a diesel fuel with the baseline nozzle that has four holes and 30.4% increased diameter. This will presumably enhancement the combustion in a dual fuel engine. A design suggestion was also made in this work to achieve similar penetration length of spray with diesel 100% case to prevent combustion from being deteriorated in a dual fuel engine.

While the main research topics in the 1970s and 1980s on the excavator were about maximizing the performances of the excavators, since the 2000s, the main research interests have been changed to the developments of the eco-friendly, high-efficient, and intelligent excavators. Moreover, due to many environmental problems, such as the oil depletion, high CO2 levels, and fine dust, the research field on the development of the eco-friendly technologies have been growing rapidly. Especially, because the energy consumption of the excavator is very high, many researchers are trying to develop energy-efficient excavators. In the present study, we apply an idle-stop technology to the excavator to maximize its energy efficiency, study experimental methods and conditions to measure the improvements of the energy efficiency with the idle-stop technology, and finally, verify the effectiveness of the idle-stop technology through experiments.
